Anything to drown out those women's voices.

I remember the nuns in school saying to hit back at the bullies. Huh? Did Jesus say that? The one group of people I hoped might protect me, told me to quit crying and hit them back.

"anti-effeminacy"
JAllen (@tjamesallen.bsky.social) reply parent
I'm older, and had hoped these things would change with the wider acceptance of LBGTQ+, but it still goes on as bad as ever. Starts in first grade, when the people can't possibly know what the words mean sexually. Calling it "anti-effeminancy" captures the concept.
JAllen (@tjamesallen.bsky.social) reply parent
Yes. Have a higher voice, a non-violent nature, cry easily, and one endures years of gendered name-calling, along with physical bullying, having your stuff ruined, lies told about you, etc. Even the nuns in school said to hit back (huh?) and stop crying so easily.

Early 2000s, I took a jsp/jhtml class in a nearby building with a similar White House view - I was surprised, too. I was higher up, we could also see the WH roof. I'm no longer sure which building it was. Have things changed? The buildings are still there but maybe access is more restricted today?

Even today in a land of religious liberty, most Christians will drive past 12 other Christian churches to get to their special church. One church is right, and you are sure it's you. Religion is serious business, you can't fool almighty god. Probably still willing to die for their interpretation.
