If it turns out generative predictive large language models (fraudulently described as 'AI') are not actually going to create a return on trillions of investment, then many, many people are going to be very, very embarrassed. And the stick market will lose 2 years of gains

AI as currently understood cannot ever work. This is because it doesn't know what is and is not true. As use cases become more profitable, their requirement for precision increases as well and at a similar rate. The more profitable the use, the less appropriate AI is to it. Doom loop.
tomhchristensen.bsky.social (@tomhchristensen.bsky.social) reply parent
The source of this, in my oponion, is that there's a concept/culture in social studies academia that changing language changes, somehow, reality. But language doesn't define reality. It describes it. Reality is what is, and changing the language we use won't change reality.

Generative AI is the great filter. Societies develop this technology and stagnate as everything is processed, reprocessed, and slopped up until nothing matters and nothing works.

Kids shouldn't be bullied for their differences. But I remember being a 'weird kid' in middle school, wearing weird clothes and interrupting people/teachers. Acting superior. And the other kids ostracized me, and I learned my lesson about socially acceptable behaviors.
tomhchristensen.bsky.social (@tomhchristensen.bsky.social) reply parent
One of my personal theories is that anti-bullying campaigns went too far and removed an important mechanism for children to learn what is, and is not, socially acceptable. Kids criticizing each other and having negative peer cues was discouraged.

If we can use Epstein to break Trump's hold on the Republican primary voting base, we can kneecap him now. Leave him gasping, with resignations, votes to impeach, scandals, investigations, etc. That would mean fewer deaths in the next 3.5 years.
