We tried so hard to explain that the anti-trans panic wasn't just going to hurt trans people. Whether through recklessness or intent it resulted in extremely weird, broad, harmful laws. I'm not mad, but I'm telling you, we really tried.

There's a fair bit of thematic overlap between the two stories, but one aspect in particular I really love is they both have some adorable Gay Yearning. Yep, the packs in particular. I've been playing Magic long enough that I can very quickly look up pretty much anything I need to know, and I'm following it closely that I usually already know half that info already. For new players there's a learning curve, I think.
As I recall, that was the result of a trans woman who was on the team tasked with translating it (or maybe it was someone on the team had a trans friend?), and there was a decision made to not make the same mistake twice, tho I think there were fears that the higher ups would stop them.
And those robot things that made you have to think so much more carefully about planning your movements. I was so ready to call Hollow Knight the best Metroidvania and like, it's still way up there, but then Dread came along and for my tastes it's a really close call.
That's the other weird thing too, between Birdo & Vivian, Nintendo of Japan is fairly chill with having trans characters. It's really just Nintendo of America that's tried to snuff that out, assuming that transness isn't appropriate for US kids. Samus would be a big shift tho, since she's the star.

I need to play Dread again (I never beat the last boss, he's a fuckin doozy) but I recall there being some really heartfelt stuff about her connection with the Chozo towards the end, as well as her revealing she can of course still speak Chozo fluently.
This is all kinda half remembered, but IIRC there was a Super Metroid era comic that delved into Samus' origins & revealed the Chozo spliced her DNA a bit to make it easier for her to live on her adopted home world I'm not the first fan to theorize they could have given her a bird alien uterus too

Not quite. It was one of the creators of Metroid (the director, I think?) in Japan that speculated in an interview Samus might be a "new half" IIRC, a Japanese term that, for simplicity sake, we can say means trans woman. But trans fans have since basically said "NO YOU SAID IT NO TAKEBACKSIES"

While MOST of the Digimon TCG seems way more affordable than Magic (in some cases HALF the price per card from cracking packs), there are some sets that are a little spicy. Guessing Infernal Ascension was a special edition set, that might mean what "EX" means? STILL cheaper than some Magic tho!

Makes sense! Magic does that too on the bottom of their cards, and some collectors collect specific artists as well. I've never gotten that specific with Magic, but who knows with Digimon! Cracking packs is half as expensive per card than Magic and I ADORE the art on almost all of them tbh

Also each card's number contains the set number, and that number is also what the max playset of 4 each cares about. The deck I wanna build has several different Mirei, but all the game cares about is that I don't have more than four "EX6-074" cards

This is also present on the English packs where I can read the name of the set of course, and I'm unlikely to be buying the Japanese versions of cards anytime soon, but just small touches like that make getting into this game so much smoother for a newbie.
The Digimon TCG database I've been using to learn the game (digimoncard.dev) uses the Japanese packaging for booster pack images, which was annoying at first until I noticed unlike Magic there's an overt labeling system: Top left is the set number, bottom left tells you how many cards in the set!
