Very nice too Edo. Definitely items to be treasured

I’ll be getting into the book more over the coming weeks. In it he did say he saw Treasures painting displayed in the window of the exhibition gallery and knew straight away he had to buy it. He beat me to it by a few decades 👍😉
Sam’s Watercolour Journey (@watercoloursam.bsky.social) reply parent
Haha thank you again Ellen. I like to think I have an appreciative eye. When it comes to ‘doing’ I’m afraid I’m a continual beginner. After receiving this book I’ll be beginning again but from Step 2 now 😉
Sam’s Watercolour Journey (@watercoloursam.bsky.social) reply parent
Yes I’ve briefly seen that section Edo. The whole book is wonderful. The Trevor Chamberlsin and Seago articles appear worth the money alone. A bit disappointed there is no mention of James Fletcher Watson nor Ray Campbell Smith but then I’d miss out on Treasure and others.
Sam’s Watercolour Journey (@watercoloursam.bsky.social) reply parent
My iPad camera doesn’t do them any justice especially one by Douglas Treasure - how the colours mesh and meld together is terrific and what you can’t see is how he handled the boat reflection in the pool of water. The darks lighter and the light darker. Subtle touch

Rekindled my enthusiasm to pick up the brushes again. I think it is a book you would enjoy.

Hi Ellen thank you. Progress is being made. Back at Hosp tomorrow for outpatients check-up. Our turn here for a heat wave. Hope all is ok with you and yours. P.s. just posted about a Ron Ranson book on watercolour Impressionism and artists. It is marvellous and has rekindled my…cont’d

I have heard it said that watercolour is at its best at its most simplified, well, you can’t get much simpler than this and it is wonderful. Looks easy but takes a genius to pull it off. My photo doesn’t do it justice, but on the published page it looks wonderful!
Sam’s Watercolour Journey (@watercoloursam.bsky.social)
This Ron Ranson book on Watercolour Impressionists arrived in the post today. It is utterly marvellous and has rekindled my desire to paint again. I hadn’t heard of Douglas Treasure before but his paintings are marvellous I particularly like the simplicity in this beached boat scene?…..Cont’d

Update. Yesterday I couldn’t workout how to coordinate movement to eat breakfast toast and unsteady on feet when moving.. today brainfog is lifting and I was able to water the garden although it tired me out. I’m certainly not safe to drive yet.

Yes fingers crossed

Low BP and it soon righted itself after 10/20 mins . However in past week also affected my ability to find words and pronounce them and my coordination forgetting how to get up out of chair or climb into car etc.

They are treating the infection with antibiotics and it should clear up within 5 days. I suppose if it doesn’t clear then it’s not an infection but another cause which is then a bit scary. When I was having only brain fog or candy floss for brains I wasn’t too worried as I put it down to….

All change What a week. Two trips to Hosp by ambulance with diagnosis ranging from Stroke TIA, Neurological events due to low BP and ending with bouts of delirium caused by infection to a vulnerable brain. Rather exhausted and certainly not myself recently

Little Broadbean pods emerging. Sutton variety. Will be on my dinner plate in about 8 weeks. Grew them in pots last year and they were delicious and heavy croppers.
Sam’s Watercolour Journey (@watercoloursam.bsky.social)
Lemon yellow flowered Tree Peony in fine bloom in my garden. Too complicated for me paint but the leaves look interesting. Watercolourists do your best. Image right free.,

Guernsey Cream Clematis blooming nicely in my garden. Any watercolourist that wishes to paint it rights free go ahead

Thank you, yes, the lesson was to teach about capturing the light but I think I made the sky too light the clouds in the first (top) offered more contrast and a reason for the concentration of the light in the low water. #GettingThere
Sam’s Watercolour Journey (@watercoloursam.bsky.social)
Donegal from another #GrahameBooth 6 landscapes in 6 weeks the object was to capture the light. I did it better in my second I think. The clouds were better in my first attempt though
Sam’s Watercolour Journey (@watercoloursam.bsky.social)
My new Prunus Autumnalis is blooming and that’s. Bloomin marvelous
Sam’s Watercolour Journey (@watercoloursam.bsky.social)
Lissan House N Ireland from a #GrahameBooth 6 Landscapes in 6 Weeks programme. Object to paint separation of differing greens. Painted twice as the foreground shadow needed darkening and I’m pleased with my trees. I’ll award myself a good effort for the wall rendering and slate tiles.
Sam’s Watercolour Journey (@watercoloursam.bsky.social)
Lovely daffodil from my garden. Sharing so all can enjoy the colours
Sam’s Watercolour Journey (@watercoloursam.bsky.social) reply parent
I’m happy with how I depicted the deep blue sheen on the feathers in the shadow side and the sparkle of light also on the feathers. Made me feel almost an artist haha!
Sam’s Watercolour Journey (@watercoloursam.bsky.social)
Toucan final colour version. Quite pleased overall maybe the shadow under the beak could be a shade darker but I wanted to keep to the orange and not use either the complimentary nor neutral tint. Will try this one again but with a more reddish beak/bill perhaps.
Sam’s Watercolour Journey (@watercoloursam.bsky.social)
Tried a toucan once again from a #TomShepherd course. Drawing and transfer to finished paper and then the value study. Finished colour version to follow

Sam’s Watercolour Journey (@watercoloursam.bsky.social) reply parent
Yes and you do that very well
Sam’s Watercolour Journey (@watercoloursam.bsky.social) reply parent
Yes an awful lot of noisy noise - have you heard of the adage - Empty vessels make the most noise. Well, from afar, it seems that Trump, Vance and Hegspeth are confirming this. Fill your own space up with your own wonderful things so there is no room for the noise to penetrate for that hour or so
Sam’s Watercolour Journey (@watercoloursam.bsky.social) reply parent
I hoe you are smiling and the smile emanates from a warm cosy place deep in your soul 👍
Sam’s Watercolour Journey (@watercoloursam.bsky.social) reply parent
I really like this one, it’s great - but would take too long to describe in writing here to do it justice here and now. I’ll pen a few words on it tomorrow and post here.
Sam’s Watercolour Journey (@watercoloursam.bsky.social) reply parent
Yes it is a very interesting shape full of innocence and intrigue and will bring you many happy memories. The style reminds me of a form of Japanese art - uncomplicated, no background just its own innate beauty.,
Sam’s Watercolour Journey (@watercoloursam.bsky.social) reply parent
Yes you can feel the cold emanating from your image - and that’s genius
Sam’s Watercolour Journey (@watercoloursam.bsky.social) reply parent
Thank you Agnes, for me, a great big achievement - it’s all relative of course so you and David Hockney can rest easy for a few more decades. 👍😉
Sam’s Watercolour Journey (@watercoloursam.bsky.social) reply parent
This is what I’m talking about in your simple but lovely and emotion evoking paintings. There’s a delicacy of touch combined with a fragrance of genius.
Sam’s Watercolour Journey (@watercoloursam.bsky.social) reply parent
Yes, that is the real talent. Cart horses with a brush, like me can be shown and taught the mechanics but the real talent lies in the expression, essence and evocation of emotion and feelings of the captured moment - with watercolours it’s in the simplicity. Evident in many of your little sketches
Sam’s Watercolour Journey (@watercoloursam.bsky.social) reply parent
Thank you Ellen. The oranges were my main focus and the leaves a secondary. The basket and background for another day.
Sam’s Watercolour Journey (@watercoloursam.bsky.social) reply parent

Waterbuffalo also from a #TomShepherd school with 3 practices beforehand in warm colours then cool colours and then warm under painting with cool glazing. Told you I can’t draw but I’m not letting that stop me haha! At least it looks a bit like a waterbuffalo and not a cat or a hippo 😉

In this instance I prefer the lack of a background, as it displays the magnificence of the beast and the artistic creativity. The background distracts from this.
