It’s a matter of limited resources and making Americans safer and more secure? There are always more violations than the system can handle, so spending law enforcement resources wisely is crtically important. That’s my perspective as someone who worked in the system as a Special Assistant AUSA.

It’s a matter of limited resources. Where and how do law enforcement agencies and prosecutors and courts use those limited resources and do the outcomes make Americans safer and more secure? www.nytimes.com/2025/08/28/o...

Sad but accurate. As a gun owner I must admit, “It’s the guns.” What to do?

Jonathan Pollard (@5891jonathan.bsky.social) reply parent
Yeah, logical reasoning is not always dispositive. In fact, reasoning rarely makes the difference. Feelings do. And a “leader” can leverage those feelings into support based on emotions rather than reasoning. And here we are.

I am old so I have read lots of books. One is The True Believer, by Eric Hoffer Hoffer states that mass movements begin with a widespread "desire for change" from discontented people who place their locus of control outside their power and who also have no confidence in existing institutions.
