I graduated college and started teaching right before social media hit big. The internet was really cool before that. Imho that was absolutely the tipping point toward the impending nadir. I do believe we are going to circle back around. But it's gonna be rough for a while.

I LOVE this. We need to do a better job of listening to the wisdom of our elders.
Every teacher I've ever discussed this with agrees kids who transfer in after being home schooled are completely out of their depth academically, socially and emotionally. I had a former homeschooled girl last year who lasted about a quarter before she literally had a mental breakdown and withdrew.
I bet he's never even stayed at a Holiday Inn.
Tbf us Cold War kids grew up doing nuclear bombs drills. I remember thinking in 5th/6th grade that a future nuclear event was pretty much inevitable. But, yeah this gun crap is horrific and a much easier fix if the gun nuts would get out of the way.
Right? I teach 10th grade and these poor kids' live absolutely suck compared to the high school experience I had in 1990. It would be weird if most of them *weren't* anxious and/or depressed.
If prices are up wouldn't numbers reflect that rather than more people buying more items? What information is statistic based on?

Meanwhile our school struggles to find funding for basic security measures, supplies, and repairs.
I finished it recently. Difficult how believable it seems. Thought provoking and more than a little terrifying.

That's interesting because our school district doesn't have adequate funding for any of those things and has cut security personnel, janitorial staff, building maintenance and teaching staff the last two years as a result.
These two men have proven one thing without a doubt. If you are born wealthy in America no amount of stupidity, lies, or fraud will limit your opportunities. You can fail upwards to the very highest levels of power as long as you have no shame.
Clearly Sudafed is lagging on the political donations.
And if you have the leisure time and money to invest in the supplies to make your own, it ends up costing pennies per batch.
I have lived this, seen my parents live it. One of the many advantages of being more well off than they were is being able to stock up on sales, buy better quality, buy cheap ahead of time and out of season, etc. And the higher you climb the more free stuff, breaks and opportunities you are given.
It's disheartening, to say the least.

As a teacher of allegory & lover of Sinners I 100% agree. The visceral gut punch of the closing monologue is far from allegorical. “For a few hours, we was free” hit so hard all three times I’ve watched it. It captures what is just so f-ed up about racism to me personally. Stupid, tragic, unjust.

I have always had students do at these the first draft by hand. I do think it works better and now, with all the cheating, it’s essential. My whole curriculum is mostly in handwritten notebooks these days. It’s the only way to get them to use their own brains.
