Talk is cheap. This is probably the only part of me that wishes I lived in Florida. A cop car fits, comfortably, 2 officers and 3 detainees. 3-5 cop cars is 15 detainees and 10 officers. It would take 30 people to make them useless? 50-100 to make calling for backup useless?

Felonious Monk (@alexqgb.bsky.social) reply parent
The second is American's bone-deep sense of entitlement. The real costs and chaos of this assault haven't hit, but they're cresting the horizon like an incoming tsunami. Causing the costs of food, electricity, health care, and consumer goods to skyrocket at once seems like a very dangerous game.

Lots to read about competitive authoritarianism, and the dangers it poses here. All true, I'm sure, but there are two saving graces I can see. First, a decentralized a federal system where the majority-fascist states depend on transfers from the rich liberals states they want to throttle.

No, this is wrong. For starters, Trump has been terrifyingly successful in doing more damage to the Constitutional order than any single human has ever done. That is MASSIVE competence. Secondly, traditional governing competence wasn't the key. The key was total, lawless insanity + charisma.
