The 2023 "Lupin III v. Cat's Eye" was a joyless slog but this looks more fun.

Cat's Eye was never particularly good. I still loved it for the art style. I suspect the reboot will be hot trash but I'm still excited.

Random encouraging observation time. If you haven't read a book in awhile, it's still totally possible! And after the first book it gets steadily easier. Your brain gets used to absorbing longform writing again, and it becomes enjoyable. Anyway please read more books.

Minor achievements of the day: 1. Made breakfast of scrambled eggs, coffee, and hash browns. 2. Engaged in lengthy zoom call with friends. 3. Reset and tightened chain on chainsaw, which I've been procrastinating about for weeks. 4. Actually did the dishes.

Looking back a lot of the she goes over a lot of similar terrain in "Sassinak." I may need to read that again now that I'm not 14. I suspect some of the stuff I thought was boring in the 1990s would hit differently for me now.

I read a some her collaborations with Anne McCaffrey in junior high, so I picked up the series when it went on sale on Amazon. It's not... good exactly, but there's a lot of the author's experiences very thinly repackaged as fantasy adventure on the page.
Patrick (@brashieel.bsky.social)
Posts that are basically only for me: Elizabeth Moon's "Deed of Paksenarrion" is the most Marine coded high fantasy I've ever encountered. Got halfway through the first book and realized the author had to have been in the Corps. And sure enough, 8 years.

In what way? You claimed the Jews on the Soviet side of the Soviet-Nazi partition of Poland survived. They mostly did not, and the USSR made no effort to protect or evacuate them.
Patrick (@brashieel.bsky.social) reply parent
The USSR lost control of all Polish territory in 1941, well before the Holocaust began. When Nazi German invaded the USSR there was no effort to evacuate Jews from Poland. The only Polish Jews the USSR might have "saved" from the Holocaust were those they shipped off to the gulags in 1940.

Random anime take. I am watching the new Gundam: GQuuuuuuX series. And I am... engaged with it. It's an interesting take on the Universal Century storylines. But I do not like it very much. Like most post-Tomino UC shows, it misses the vibes of the old shows entirely.
