That’s just asking for somebody with a printer and a laminator to swap the sign for one that says “Not defacing the sidewalk prohibited”. Bonus points if they attach a little pot of chalks…

Don't forget that they are probably not using your site search. They are more likely using google (or even ChatGPT these days) and searching for "xxx uni history courses". Blocking search engines from indexing parts of your site will lose you these applicants, they won't just come use your search.

Has WhatsApp web changed how it works recently? It used to require that your phone was on to relay messages, but mine is currently out of battery on my desk and I'm still using WhatsApp web. I was under the impression that the phone had to be involved due to the E2E encryption - has that gone away?

I agree 100% there. Unfortunately there seems to be a niche of ragebait focused purely on horrific cooking videos. Stuff like “shove this chicken in a jar and then use the dishwasher to cook it”. You can’t tell me that that is legitimate budget cooking, that’s just food poisoning with extra steps.
CatButtes 🐾 (@buttes.dev) reply parent
That sounds like some of the cooking videos TikTok has been throwing at me recently. I need to work out how to tell their alogrithm that "No, I don't want to see more shockingly bad cooking videos. I only watched the one out of morbid curiosity. Please show me more silly cats, dogs and birds"

I would love to see the Millennial category broken down by student loans as well. Yes, it’s essentially a tax at this point, but by removing money you are essentially lowering their pay and removing their ability to save. I’m willing to bet there is a link between student loans and pension savings

Consider a programmer looking at code they themselves wrote a year ago, now having to identify and fix a bug. They have to rebuild the mental model of what is going on, which is easier if they have already had a mental model of what is going on.

I’d like to make a prediction for the record: I strongly believe GenAI will “fail” in the next 2-4 years, despite its prevalence. I suspect (about) 2 years from now, we will see businesses trying to pivot and “fix what AI broke.” (The actual timeline is less important than the patterns.)

Local businesses will be seeing a massive loss of income due to the loss of 15k customers. They will be looking at redundancies themselves. They won’t be hiring. Towns with universities are built around them. If you allow the university to fail, the future of that town is grim.
CatButtes 🐾 (@buttes.dev) reply parent
And thats only the student population. The staff would be gone as well, along with the money they spend. That’s probably another 6k+ people suddenly out of work. That’s 6k people *in one town* who will be looking for work in a town that is seeing a massive economic crash.
CatButtes 🐾 (@buttes.dev)
There is so much truth here. If the university I work at were to shut down, the local area would have an immediate population loss of 15k. That’s 15k less people spending money on the high street. 15k less people paying rent. 15k less people buying take out. The knock on effects would be huge.

CatButtes 🐾 (@buttes.dev) reply parent
Our consultants have suggested a cloud based solution that apparently costs in the region of 15c per document. We estimate that we generate around 150k documents per year. We can't afford $24k a year in new spending just for some PDFs I guess we are sticking with our existing home grown solution.
CatButtes 🐾 (@buttes.dev)
Currently working on a project where devs have raised some red flags over potential hidden costs in the technology and been ignored. We have a requirement to generate PDF copies of certain documents for record retention, sending out via email etc.
