Redistricting is done based upon the census and population. Gerrymandering is done for political reasons, and TX just pulled a mid-cycle gerrymander for the gop. Until they want to play by the rules, we have to step in to get some power back.
We can’t do that without having a majority seat at the table. That’s what this is all about.
I’m guessing to avoid a potential litigation injunction? Or perhaps to make it more appeasing to legislators and voters? I’m sure there’s a reason.
Californias approach is only temporary, given the crisis we are in. We must do this now. Can’t help the voters in the future without getting our power back. They chose to play in the dirt, we’re responding.
