I think Americans lean into it, though. Our entire penal system is based on "eye for an eye" punitive, justice. We treat out inmates like animals, and justify it "because they deserve it." And it's gotten even worse as it's become big business. There is no attempt at rehabilitation in most cases.
"They like punishment." You cannot convince me that this isn't a direct result of biblical teachings. It's a book with as much violence and retribution as love and understanding.

I know thereās a lot of people who donāt care about sports (and thatās a perfectly reasonable view). But as a lifelong sports fan- I remember how heartbreaking it was as a kid to have a favorite player get traded or sign elsewhere. Thatās core memory shit.

Fan bases are so biased- and I know that seems like an obvious thing- but itās biased to the point of delusion sometimes. Having lived in Pittsburgh and seeing how the Steelers fans truly believe there is never a year they shouldnāt be in the Super Bowl is wild.
I have grown to hate sports talk radio and the ESPN talking head stuff. Itās no longer analysis that helps people understand things and allows them to come to their own conclusions. Itās just barking out opinions and fans just regurgitate them.

Saw this video of a mom picking her young kid up from school and then recording as she gleefully told him his favorite player (Micah Parsons) had been traded. She continues happily recording him as he starts crying, offering no comfort. Yay for content, I guess? But that kid wonāt forget that.

It's an amazing skill! It's not hard to learn either (to make basic, functional stitches), but once you get good at it? You can create your own clothes! I'm so impressed by people who can do that.
And if it's not taught in schools, moms and dads need to teach these things to both sons and daughters. I can not think of a bigger turnoff, or anything less masculine than a guy who is unable to feed himself without ordering doordash.

He told me recently his sales partner, who he travels with- if that guy tears or shirt or a button comes off- he just goes out and buys a new shirt. My friend, who is pretty smart with money, was flabbergasted. For him, sewing isn't "girly," it's just a way to keep his clothes functional...
Re: gender roles. One of my best guy friends (straight, white) travels like 250 days a year for work. His dad, who also traveled a bit for work, taught him, when he was like 12, how to sew. Basic stuff- mending a tear, replacing a button etc.

And the whole, "boys don't bake" thing is such a load of shit. You know what boys bake? The ones that don't give a fuck what you think about them, because they either 1.) enjoy baking or 2.) enjoy eating baked goods. In my experience, guys that like those two things are awesome.
I don't feel sad about it how I used to. More, like, irritated? She and I probably could have had so much fun together if she hadn't been so rigidly stuck into conservative/Catholic gender roles. And it sucks that we both missed out on that. Ugh.
I was feeling bad about this last night. But then I remembered when I was 14 and I asked my mom if we could bake an apple pie together and she looked at me like I was an idiot and said, very matter-of-factly, "boys don't bake pies."
OMG- you are so sweet. And I will be taking you up on this. Trail and error is great... but trial and error and advice is waaaaayyy easier lol.
I'm being really mindful to keep track of the recipes that I like and (even if they are ones I find on the internet and augment some). I want to start my own cooking/baking legacy- because those recipes are so important. I don't know who I'll give them to, but I want to be able to give them.
Yeah- I need some more practice before bringing others into this... lol
And make no mistake. The Dem "centerists" that tout transphobic candidates as "the lesser of two evils," will sell us out the nanosecond we become inconvenient for their agenda (so immediately). Their support has almost always come with strings attached and was mostly performative anyway.
And they really don't need to. Do what makes you happy. But it's telling how much of the conservative "morality agenda" falls apart when they acknowledge they are actually into the stuff they crusade so hard against.

I did it in cast iron, which may have been a mistake. My crust just didnāt do what I wanted. It was slightly burnt on top, but mushy under. My peaches got way too soft- like baby food soft.

Little things hit me weird. I donāt talk to my mom anymore. But she used to make the most amazing pies. I would have loved so much to learn from her and have her recipes and be able to ask for help when I mangle a cobblerā¦ but I canāt. I know itās for the best, but still hits me pretty often.
