I was a storyboard artist at Nelvana from April 1999 until April 2024 and it is a heartbreaking moment. The Writers strike, COVID, and the collapse of OTA TV vs streaming has changed the landscape of animation. I am on the hunt for a new project this very moment.

Reinstall Fedora? It happens. While you wait though, boot Pop!_OS alpha COSMIC DE 24.04 from USB. I asked System76 and they made it sound like it’s almost finished the alpha stage. I also like Manjaro.

It appears Toad's Drinking Problem has finally become too much for him to handle by himself.

Xubuntu is fairly lightweight and has a ton of documentation. xubuntu.org I like to add a dock to Xubuntu when I have used it in the past, but it comes with a toolbar across the bottom similar to Windows 7

Most Linux distros have an App Store built in, but you also look here: flathub.org Good luck choosing a new OS for your old laptop 🙂

If the installer won’t work, you may have to go into BIOS/ EUFI and turn off secure boot: the laptop company would prefer you using Windows 🙂 it’s good you are trying this out on a spare laptop. Can you get a better SSD? More ram? That might also make a difference.

Third: get a USB and follow these steps: etcher.balena.io you need to create an installer. You can do this as many times as you need to. Reboot the laptop with your USB. Installer plugged in, and test it out. Does the wifi work? Do you like it? The keyboard cmds might react differently.

First, back up anything on your laptop you want to keep: old emails, photos, videos, fonts, docs, music etc. Second, look at a handful of Linux distros, like www.linuxmint.com or system76.com/cosmic/ choosing an Ubuntu based Linux will be easiest b/c askubuntu.com helpful documentation

Consider just not keeping macOS and putting linux on it, solo. Can you update the ram to 6GB? Maybe pull the mac ssd, and put a new blank ssd for linux in? everymac.com/systems/appl...

you can use Balena etcher to put Linux on a USB installer, and then with a 2nd USB device plugged into your PC, install Linux onto the 2nd USB with Persistence www.fosslinux.com/49280/persis...

If you are okay with W11 then stay - that's cool! It's enough to know you COULD switch over if you changed your mind. If you DO want to look, install Linux on a separate drive than your Windows boot. Don't cross the streams, Venkman! www.youtube.com/watch?v=wyKQ...

Deezer looks like a similar monthly price as Spotify. Is there a benefit to moving to Deezer? Different payout to musicians? Better/different library of music? I'm asking because I am unaware, not stirring the pot.
