Exactly this. Mid-40s faculty here (white/cis tho). I'm looking at the 15yrs from my early 40s (COVID) to my late 50s (recovering from whatever this will be) with sadness. Our uni leaders are preserving what they can today at the expense of tomorrow. The cruelty of that is hard to see.

Tenure reports often note of how many asks, how many declines. Declines often implicitly perceived as “I can’t write a strong letter.”
I mean, that also argues for the checkbox.
For the uninitiated: Some institutions don't take it seriously unless there's criticism and some don't take it seriously if there is criticism and they don't tell the letter writer either way! Whole families' lives depend on this system! And you thought the govt was bad.

Becoming a Professional Engineer (certified PE) can probably be done in 5 years if you do nothing else, but it strictly requires 4 years supervised work, after completing the FE exam, which you cannot take until you have a BSc.

Top five percent of all recently tenured in our field. Sure. Check your tenure documents for any missing keywords. Close with “actually they are obviously too good for your institution, why are we wasting time, award tenure now”, without actually saying that.
Tenure letter: Personal touch. Research/scholarship is awesome. That’s why they got all the grant money. We know that is the most important thing. Wow look at all that service! Teaching seems fine. I dunno what your standards are but they seem to meet them. National service! Reputation.

After Judge Young vacated the terminations of the 900+ grants, NIH staff had to go back into their system and re-activate them. Grants don't terminate or reinstate themselves. Someone has to do the work. So as of today, most of the 900 grants at issue are currently active in NIH's systems. 4/
But second, SCOTUS left in place the part of Judge Young’s order that vacated the discriminatory policies that led to the terminations. This means that NIH can't use those policies to re-start the mass terminations of grants. And here's where it gets interesting. 3/
