I'm sort of half-watching the movie #HeadsOfState. It feels like one of those Netflix algorithmically generated movies.

Time has been strange, not only because I am old, but also the pandemic and long gaps in TV series releases are all messing with predictable regularity. But, after the mad panic of moving house, this month has been a complete blur for me. August is over and I don't even remember it beginning.

I guess that's true of all monster / disaster movies, because intelligent people don't put themselves in risky situations, but there are limits on just how stupid their behaviour can be before my eyes hurt from rolling so much.

The problem with dangerous lunatics is that they are very good at manipulating the system to gain money and power. We gotta find a way to prevent that.
Budgets are skewed, and nobody has a clear idea of what things cost and where savings need to be made. VFX is being used as a scapegoat here. There are a lot of low budget indie movies that have spectacular VFX despite their low budgets, so that is not where the problem lies.

Generative AI is the real culprit. The other uses of AI, in science and medicine and statistics, are really useful applications of the technology. But producing art based on stolen IP, or providing misleading "answers" to questions that weren't asked, is unhelpful and wasteful.
