A student of mine, here since toddler, and currently of legal status, was removed from the country for 10 years due to coming here illegally. They were then told if they wrote a letter of of apology to homeland for coming here illegally they'd consider dropping it to 18 months. Done in our names

Ya, I deleted as you were specifically talking science. I didn’t have time to give a proper response then, but it was clear I was confused. I would argue that we were more in the dark before, too. This is not a new thing, I’ve been teaching this for decades. Just White Supremacy in action.

I guess I need help understanding where the line from “This group is protesting this policy that hurts what our field does, and having an event this day” and “this is happening on our campus this day” and “this is happening on our campus and I’m going to check it out and be there”.

..we agree I can say “this policy is coming from these reps, and this is a consequence of it”. I’m sure we agree I can talk about events that relate to these current policies. Is the issue “I am going along”? Even if students knew I would anyways?

(Taking in your other reply) - the line seems tough to define, ya? We agree I can say RFK Jr is going to kill people, explain why, and talk about how everything he says is a disaster for public health. We agree I can teach about DHHS and how they are killing people with current choices...

Simple example is this - if an admin were to suggest to entirely cut WIC or SNAP - it would be wrong of me not to share information about things that might stop it from doing so in a course that teaches food equity and food policy. I’d have to share the protest info.

Anyways, the answers is this stuff is not only ok but necessary. At least with my curriculum. This could eventually look like a protest, I suppose. I would tell my students I was protesting for starving kids and I’d share that info I’d imagine.

How about “Here is an update from a State partner on threats from the current administration to our current food policy, who will be impacted, and what you can do if you want to do something?" I noted from the beginning mine situation was different, but still political.

There’s also levels of students and content, mine are graduate students learning about things like food policy. They are choosing to pursue these things. It’d be irresponsible for me not to show policy implications and opportunities. Might be less true for a freshman intro course.

My kid rules. At home science just because she's curious.

Four bowls with water and gummy candies in them. Each bowl has paper in front saying, in order from left to right, sugar, salt, water, soda. A child wrote the note.

(FWIW I was also guy risking himself with admin for our campus protestors. I hope to contextualize my response by saying I'm sure we are in agreement on the vast majority of issues)

Frankly I don't care who is to "blame" because it's complex. But people who obstructed the only alternative option are definitely part of the "how did we get concentration camps" story. They in fact will play a prominent role in that history.

All I'm saying is we knew the consequences in advance. A whole ass document told us. We knew concentration camps were on the table. We had another option. We chose the camps guy. And we all own it.

Definitely blame for the disgusting policy of the dem party and United States for decades here. Not even blaming others so much, I resonate with the reasons. But we knew the consequences of him winning. He told us. Some stein voters hoped he'd win on twitter. Vocally and repeatedly.

Yes, lots of blame there too. But the people who preach harm reduction in all other parts of society choosing harm in that moment also chose this. We all knew this would occur if he won, there’s no question about that. People either chose harm or to reduce harm.

I recognize that can be read terribly. Not my intent. I'm saying it as in the meme "x supporters for y" as in they supported it.
