until elections actually represent voters, it’s stupid to give up on any state bc of how 51% of their votes went in the last election look, i’m not a bernie bro by any stretch and i have no idea if this guy can beat collins, ijs red state/blue state thinking is facile and unhelpful
perpetually outraged but also exhausted (@kerrit.bsky.social) reply parent
i think voter reg tells the story better bc only looking at election results doesn’t account for gerrymandering and voter suppression. here in “deep red” louisiana, we had a very popular dem governor for eight years (until 2024), our current shitbag R gov was elected by ***19%*** of the voters.

i just learned last year that louisiana has a law requiring the state to provide private school kids with buses! insane! and at least in baton rouge, the buses run the private routes first in the day, so guess which kids are routinely late to school?

why can't the democrat messaging on trans people be "no, we are not going to force children to undergo genital inspections in order to play sports"
perpetually outraged but also exhausted (@kerrit.bsky.social) reply parent
this. we on the left need to start accepting that they're not too stupid to vote for their self-interests, they just define them differently. they want people to suffer. it makes them happy.
perpetually outraged but also exhausted (@kerrit.bsky.social) reply parent
so would i. but since they're already there, picking up trash is among the most useful things they could be doing. certainly one of the least dangerous.

perpetually outraged but also exhausted (@kerrit.bsky.social) reply parent
they signed up to kill people it’s much less demeaning to pick up trash
perpetually outraged but also exhausted (@kerrit.bsky.social) reply parent

would love to see less of "ew, picking up garbage is beneath them" on this site re: the nat'l guard. 1) picking up garbage isn't "beneath" any. fucking. one. 2) you'd rather they shoot people for throwing sandwiches or having dark hair?
perpetually outraged but also exhausted (@kerrit.bsky.social) reply parent
if we sent them to gaza, it would be to kill gaza babies. you do know that's the side the US is on, right?
perpetually outraged but also exhausted (@kerrit.bsky.social) reply parent
this! i also hate the sneering elitism in "ew, they're picking up trash, that's beneath them." why? exactly who *isn't* above picking up trash, and why? let's unpack that one.

my dad was a marine in korea and he hated the govt and himself for everything he saw and did there. he's dead now but he'd place a lot more value on these guys keeping the national mall clean than all the indefensible killing you've listed.
perpetually outraged but also exhausted (@kerrit.bsky.social) reply parent
i'm sorry you don't consider picking up trash to be meaningful work. to me it's a whole hell of a lot more important to community safety than chasing after a guy who threw a sandwich.
perpetually outraged but also exhausted (@kerrit.bsky.social) reply parent
i don't agree. those actions are actually contributing to society. you'd rather they were arresting people for throwing sandwiches? or shooting students for protesting? maybe shooting rubber bullets at babies? be careful 1) what you ask for and 2) how you devalue crucial community work.
