@kodi I'm told I'll seem more like a real person if I put something here And that will make it less likely that I'll get blocked But then I think about how strong the desire not to be perceived is And I wonder why I'd want to avoid being blocked

that there's no way you can draw the circle so that only the stuff it gets wrong goes on the outside. And anyone who tries to pin you down to one of these bad things and explain why it's your fault for doing it wrong is deliberately ignoring the way these bad things go together.

It's bad that it gets trivial stuff wrong, and it's ALSO bad that the big value add of "sometimes it summarizes information from multiple sources in a useful way" ALSO gets stuff wrong, and the most bad thing of all is..

The ultra-pasteurized stuff generally goes bad on day 6 or so after you open it. If I buy milk that's not ultra-pasteurized, anything that's left four days after opening is going down the drain. Also you lose about a day keeping it on the door where it's 5-10⁰F warmer than the rest of the fridge.

It is EXTREMELY normal to do that; so normal in fact that OSHA has a whole bucket of regulations telling you that many ways you're not allowed to do it. But if any white house was going to ignore OSHA, it would be this one.

Ace gets her own post. Ace is amazing, ESPECIALLY when they give her a non-Doctor character to play against. She also gets a genuine character-development arc, and I love that she's very smart but not played as an abrasively smart person..

(I've actually started watching the movie, but he's still technically next in the queue because I'm like twenty minutes in and we're still on Seven.) And then I'll finally feel qualified to have an opinion on all the Doctors, Masters, and Companions!

I have now watched the entire run of Doctor Who from 1963-89. I've also seen MOST of the modern run; I need to watch the Amy / Rory / River episodes to figure out if I just don't remember some of them, or if I missed them the first time through. But the Eighth Doctor is next in the queue!

It's so cruel, especially if you're one of those people whose headaches don't go away until they sleep.

where using power to do good or to create is simply less effective than using power to do evil or to destroy, in part because evil can distribute its costs to people who did not consent to absorb them. It sucks, but it doesn't mean no one was listening.

Real Genius is part of the foundation of my character that led to me telling Facebook recruiters to stop contacting me until Facebook had a reputation as a force for good in the world. And obviously Facebook got on just fine without me, but I did absorb the message of Real Genius...

This post really crystallized my feelings on the whole "you all ignored this and now you're paying the price" rhetoric that's been bothering me for a bit. (Obviously this post is not that bad, it just happened to make things clear.) Because specifically Real Genius did NOT get ignored.

My EMT friend told me about the guy who was extremely high and also thought his contacts were in and succeeded in doing serious damage to his cornea and every time I have a contact mishap I'm like "but at least I'm not that guy!"

Yeah, in terms of pure "is the mystery reveal rewarding" Gravity Falls is among the best - although it does roll out the fact that it's a mystery box show pretty slowly at first.

Rewatched this recently and was amazed at how much they seeded in the earliest episodes. What a thoughtfully crafted show.

If you're not mad about the FBI raiding John Bolton's house you're probably in the middle of writing an op-ed about how Dems need to throw trans people under the bus to retake the House.

One of the most fascinating things about Elon's trajectory has been watching him change what types of speech patterns he emulates. For a long time he was obsessed with talking like he thought smart people would talk, but he's totally abandoned that now.
