Maybe I'm just terrible at microblogging, but like.... if you are following 10x as many people as follow you, I'm not following back. In fact, if you follow over 1k people, what the hell are you even doing with your life? How can you even sift through the noise?

My Chevy Volt is great. 50 electric miles is plenty for around town in the summer. But it's more like 23 in the dead of winter in the highway. My kids live about 100 miles away. I would need 400 miles to be about to make a round trip in the winter. 500 would feel safer, so that's my threshold.

AI should not be customer-facing — it's an "expert" tool, though what passes for expertise varies by task. If you can't clearly explain requirements or don't fully understand the output, you have to assume it's wrong. It's more of a knowledgeable but easily confused assistant than a domain expert.

I use AI tools every day and they are very useful for certain things, but the output of an AI needs to be filtered through a domain expert before reaching the consumer. Consumers and businesses both are putting far too much trust in these systems, to their detriment.
AI isn't a consumer product. It is a tool best used by experts to enhance their own efforts. When people laugh at the mistakes ChatGPT makes, it's because they are trying to do things general LLMs will never be able to do. But you wouldn't know that listening to Sam Altman and the rest.

I don't think your conclusion is wrong. That said, he has been involved in political activism for years (NYFD) and demonstrably has considerable knowledge about politics. He wouldn't be the *worst.* And frankly I'd vote for a ham salad if it got Trump and his ilk out of office. But he's not great.
The misunderstanding and hype. I don't have a problem with it existing. It's a useful tool I use almost every day. But people are using it for the wrong things and trying to replace people (employees, partners) with fancy text completion. And they are selling us on the idea that it will work.

Pretty much all contracts have terms covering what happens when one side doesn't fulfill their side. E.g. if you break your lease, you forfeit the deposit and possibly some additional rent, but you can't be forced to stay. In this case, they will have to fulfill whatever those terms are (if any).

The internet can be harmful and spread lies. But we've decided despite those risks that people will have access to them because folks without internet are at a disadvantage. LLMs are similar in that they can be harmful but denying people access would similarly disadvantage them.
The fact that LLMs are often useful is a happy accident — it turns out that a text prediction model can spawn words in a useful order. But it is not and cannot be guaranteed. So do we keep a useful tool locked up where only the wealthy can use them or make them available despite grave risks?
No, they can't program that. In fact, LLMs aren't actually programmed at all — they are trained. They also can't be made to be truthful or admit when they don't know something for the same reason. They actually have no idea what they are asked or even what their answer even means.
