Part of the problem is a lack of competition in the market and successive governments signing off on takeovers and mergers which only benefit the rich, not real working people.

Not crazy, but just because something is legal doesn't make it moral. You might object to the use of a particular word in a particular sense but that doesn't change the fact that what is being done is wrong.

Even if it eventually resulted in an increase in American businesses, consumers would still be paying higher prices and ultra rich people pocketing more bonuses from the US government. This does not help Americans it just makes the poor, poorer.

For minimum wage to mean anything it needs to automatically rise by inflation every year, otherwise it just sets a bottom for every exploitation based business to rush to.
If you had government that was interested in representing its voters, they would stop the concentration of businesses into fewer, larger enterprises, these only benefit those rich enough to invest in them, everyone else just gets exploited by them.
But it is a price fixing cartel and therefore corrupt and even in America it is illegal.
I agree about what the real problem is, but while foolish people keep listening to the lies pushed by big money then democratic politicians have little choice than to try to give people what they ask for.

How about having a political class which does its job and represents the people who vote for it, not the people who give it money. Legal restrictions on balance in media coverage of elections would help prevent the rich buying up media to get their candidate in.

So much bad is happening in the US, but the rise of the extreme right is in many first world countries and the failure to vote is in lots of them too.
There is no "don't do politics", if you fail to vote, then you have essentially agreed to whatever happens. How many people, in how many countries, lost their lives fighting to get the ability to choose their leaders?
