I've never understood where that whole "goodness of humanity" thing comes from. It's demonstrably false. Humans are, by nature, selfish. and it takes a lot of courage and hard work to NOT be selfish.

Every year, I schedule my booster shot in sept. I've never had this problem before. Walgreens said it was because the CDC recommended against me getting the shot. The entire ACIP was fired and is now basically one person - RFK Jr. I'm not holding out hope that he's gonna change his mind.

That is not true for most US states. I tried the exact same thing in Georgia and was informed that I can't get the shot without a prescription. Most State law does not allow vaccines without a prescription unless the CDC recommends it. So millions of us are scr3wed.
Yep, I'm in the state of Georgia. The pharmacy informed me that State Law does not allow anyone to get the vaccine without a prescription because it's not recommended by the CDC. Of course, most of us cant get a prescription unless our doctor lies on an insurance form.

I remember those things too. My mom couldn't get a credit card, or a job for that matter. However, there were still a great many pro-choice republicans in the Congress. 68% of republican voters were pro-choice in the late 70's early 80's. Even as of 1995, 51% of republicans were pro choice.
It wasn't till 1980 that the republicans started turning against womens rights (mostly in the South). And even after that, there were still enough pro-choice republicans to pass an amendment for a couple decades. Maybe the States would have balked. but they didn't even try.
Ruth, it's been nice chatting with you. I think we have very different lived experience. I remember when the 1979 ERA deadline passed, & again the 1982 deadline. I lived thru that history. ERA failed because people believed it would cost a lot of $ and was unnecessary if women were truly qualified.
