Yeah, that's not so much an intentional policy as a consequence of declining population, as many other countries will discover in a few decades when the low birth rate starts outweighing the effects of immigration.

Give it a couple of decades. Even in the African countries which do still have high birthrates at the moment, they're on a downward trend. Eventually they'll drop enough that the world's population will peak and start heading downwards, and when they do, house prices will collapse as well.

Quite possibly. Even in the countries population decline is already happening, the effects are very location-dependent, with cities remaining expensive but the countryside becoming hollowed out, with abandoned houses available for virtually nothing left to rot because of a lack of local jobs.

Not true. Mass migration was towards western countries and their housing didn't jump like ours in Eastern Europe. There are other factors here in my country, like adopting the euro and lots of money having gray-ish source needing laundering, but it didn't start now.

Far right people have such a broken view of Japan. The number of immigrant descent people in Japan is grossly underestimated with stats not distinguishing between Japanese citizenship and nationality, and the census not counting those on short term visas (even if renewed again&again for 30 years..)

If the genetic testing fad taught us anything, it's that people do have genes from various ethnicities. It doesn't make them hybrids. It makes them not inbred.

aug 28, 2025, 2:29 am • 20 0 • view
avatar
CruiseMissileLiberal 🇪🇪 @statedeptsocialist.bsky.social

First of all "extinction by hybridization" is a real thing and no inbreeding is not a concern for Japan, they've been homogeneous for centuries with no genetic problems. A Wasian isn't going to be healthier than a 100% Japanese.

aug 28, 2025, 2:34 am • 1 0 • view
avatar
Greyface @greyface.bsky.social

If you use a normal meaning of extinct, “hybridization” (the wrong word for reproduction within a species) would only lead to extinction if the mixed kids were sterile. I assure you, they are not. Saying a group is homogenous AFTER a lot of genetic mixing says… something… about your rigor.

aug 28, 2025, 3:34 am • 14 0 • view
avatar
CruiseMissileLiberal 🇪🇪 @statedeptsocialist.bsky.social

A wasian marries someone else their child will be 1/4 Japanese, from there 1/8 then 1/16 then 1/32 to the point that they're no longer Japanese in any meaningful sense. That is extinction by hybridization.

aug 28, 2025, 3:44 am • 1 0 • view
avatar
Greyface @greyface.bsky.social

That is still not hybridization. They are all humans. Why is your definition defined by blood quantum of a genetic pool fixed in time at 1800AD (or whatever date you’re setting)? Why do you think somebody would go along with that definition?

Japanese ethnogenisis happened so long ago that the Jomon and Yayoi is fairly consistent. Obviously the ainu and ryuku islands are going to be different. The Jomon would be an example of a people that don't really exist anymore due to hybridization.

Neanderthals did go extinct due to contact with H.Sapiens. But not due to sexual contact. There was interbreeding, and the identifiably Neanderthal groups lost normal kinds of niche competition. If the Neanderthals had not mixed with H.Sapiens, they’d still be gone.

Stringing normal words together is not the same as inventing a new word (or the Japanese equivalent of one since their vocabulary is like Chinese, putting characters together to form distinct “words”)

aug 28, 2025, 12:36 pm • 5 0 • view
avatar
Craig Grävling @ieatpie.bsky.social

It basically is the same thing though. Japanese doesn't do spaces between words so 過労 and 死 just smash together. Overwork death. Only difference is in English it's grammatically neater to put from in there.

aug 28, 2025, 9:11 pm • 1 0 • view
avatar
🔥➕🌋 @pplesnoranges.bsky.social

aug 29, 2025, 6:07 am • 0 0 • view
avatar
Craig Grävling @ieatpie.bsky.social

Yes it does and you just said it. It's not the fact it's a "word" that makes this special in Japanese. They've a word for everything. I could say 過労猫, death from cats and be understood just fine. What is special is that this is so common it has legal recognition unlike in English

aug 29, 2025, 6:12 am • 0 0 • view

🔥➕🌋 @pplesnoranges.bsky.social

aug 29, 2025, 10:13 am • 0 0 • view
avatar
Craig Grävling @ieatpie.bsky.social

True, replaced the wrong bit. But still it proves my point. An overworked cat isn't a thing of its own. It doesn't need a word just for it. But by the nature of how Japanese works words always mix together. Not 過労死 being so common it needs a word. The word is there even if it never happened.

aug 29, 2025, 11:36 am • 0 0 • view
