the two songs the band (wherever the band was, i believe this was a live band) played before and after this were "Jump" (Van Halen) and Enter Sandman
No wonder the soldiers couldn’t march in cadence. That music is awful.
a song encouraging someone to commit suicide and a song about having nightmares
The band performing is The U.S. Army Band Downrange, & their setlist was: Four EW&F songs to start Hard to Handle About Damn Time Vertigo My Hero Barracuda & Magic Man The Ocean Jump Fortunate Son Enter Sandman Sweet Child O'Mine Right Now Separate Ways Be All That You Can Be
Timothy Burke….just so you know it was Earl Carter who wrote the Army slogan song and Jake Holmes wrote Dazed & Confused. Not a Led Zep song but a cover.
Malicious compliance
The marchers aren't even in step.
Big fans of teen comedy trailers from the 00s with the SR-71 pick
@vanillevlapakhuis.bsky.social, jij kent deze nummers ongetwijfeld.
Right now….the SR-71 song?!
The Van Hagar song, I think
Two songs by Heart, a band that relocated from Seattle to Canada to spare their guitarist & manager from being drafted. Yeah, I cannot believe the Wilson sisters approved of the Army using their music. [Googles] Nope, they did not.
Rich that they played Fortunate Son.
“The Ocean” is a very strange song to play at a military parade. I say that as a major Zep fan.
It was actually Good Times Bad Times->The Ocean, which is even stranger
I'd say add "war pigs" next year.
The band should have played “Paint It Black” & “Bad Moon Rising”! But, there was almost no one there to hear the music. How sad…😎
Does anyone understand this?
I don't know my Led Zep songs very well & so while I knew that riff was from Houses of the Holy I didn't know if it was Dazed & Confused or The Ocean & that's how I learned that the guy who wrote the song Dazed & Confused also wrote the song & jingle "Be All You Can Be" for the U.S. Army
It was Good Times Bad Times from their first album
NOOOOO!! How dare they.....
Easier to march to than "The Ocean" at least
You can be reasonably assured that every piece of good music out of the 60s was antiwar and anti-silver spoon mother fuckers like Trump
Yup, I grew up in the 60s and still love the music from that era. The, to me, quintesential song from back then will always be the Country Joe and the Fish song "The I Feel Like I'm Fixin' to Die Rag". "Don't ask me I don't give a damn the next stop is Viet Nam." Worth a listen...
Even the Monkees! The Last Train To Clarksville was a subtle antiwar song they snuck by the studio censors.
Some folks are born, silver spoon in hand Lord, don't they help themselves, yeah But when the taxman comes to the door The house look a like a rummage sale It ain't me, it ain't me I ain't no millionaire's son, no, no It ain't me, it ain't me I ain't no fortunate one
I say the same every time the chuckleheaded MAGATs screech out Born In The USA. It against the Viet Nam war you dipshits.
Actually, it’s about working class struggles (like most of his oeuvre) through the prism of a viet nam vet, and I won’t call you a dipshit
Yes, "Born in the U.S.A." by Bruce Springsteen is widely considered a protest song, despite its common misinterpretation as a patriotic anthem. The song addresses the struggles of a Vietnam War veteran and critiques the way the nation treated returning soldiers.
So sayeth AI 😀 I was at the LA concert in 1981, a benefit for vets, amidst a nasty recession and stagflation; no jobs; the rich getting tax breaks under Reagan’s trickle down pissing on the working class This was the backdrop for 1984’s “Born in the USA” The war n protests had been over for 9 yrs
Guess you didn't hear this at your concert. Ant-war Bruce. youtu.be/FrMMzJMaQZ4?...
The brother of the guy who tutored him on guitar was one of those who didn't come back, as was the drummer in the Castiles, his first band
So did NPR but it was too long to post.
I'm from the Jersey shore and have seen him often. Even to just show up to jam at a bar. So your 1 concert isn't the be all and end all. But you continue to believe what you want to. I'll will believe what he has said in numerous concerts. And especially in his live album from this early years.
My first Boss concert was at Le Garage in Beach Haven, circa 1973ish
Credence Clearwater Revival (CCR) Fortunate Son either it was a dig at Bone Spurs or someone didn’t know what that song was about
Surely there's nobody who doesn't know what that song is about. I'm a menopausal woman in The Netherlands and I think I've always known what it was about. In fact, CCR played it in a free open-air concert in our town a few years ago.
We are talking about MAGAt felon and his cult. Brain cells aren’t exactly firing on all cylinders for them.
There are people who were around when Rage Against The Machine first started who are only just recently figuring out that the songs are political I have no doubt there are plenty of people who have no clue about Fortunate Son no matter how many times they've heard it
both, the person who chose it knew, the person who approved it didnt.
Any bets the approval “authority” was Pickled Pete?
They knew
They didn’t know the song. They probably asked AI for a list of military songs and since Fortunate Son is like the anthem of the Vietnam War, they picked it without knowing the words.
Trump probably heard it attached to some bang bang news footage from the Vietnam War.
Do you mean they asked A one?
Trump loves that song & played it repeatedly at rallies & reportedly plays it at maralago in his personal playlist that he has people listen to at dinner. He obviously does not actually listen to the words.
Bingo
MAGA just failed again. Lyrics? Are there lyrics?
One of my favorite songs. We used to play that in a rock band. I played guitar and took care of the lead vocal. Those were the days! 😃 And Yes: MAGA failed, again. 😎 Lyrics: genius.com/Creedence-cl...
We performed the song, too. But I preferred not to sing. 😆 Congratulations on your voice! I still feel a deeply moving emotion when I hear Fortunate Son. Thank you, John Fogerty. It must have been intentional that it was played.
Prob a bit of BOTH. Dumald is INFAMOUSLY Lyrics Iilliterate* (Likes the tune has NO IDEA what song is ABOUT. ++++++ Sure there’s SOME folk in almost EVERY entertainment Planning Committee he’s HAD? Who hates his GUTS & are secretly trolling Playlist Selection. *Might just be STRAIGHT illiterate
They might have used ai for a list of patriotic songs and it fucked up 😂 they probably had Born in the USA and had to cut it
well, several someones had to approve the song list, i’m sure. just like the Les Mis choice at the WH Dinner, this may be a mix of subversion at the source and ignorance in the chain of command.
I was thinking the same. Trump was about as uncool as someone could be when he was young, and had no apparent awareness of what was going on in this country during the civil rights conflicts or Nam. He admired Nixon.
Well he compared Vietnam to having unprotected sex soooooo
This might weird you out (I certainly was), but apparently Trump really likes Les Misérables.
no weirder than when i found out Paul Ryan loved Rage Against the Machine
I love whoever added Fortunate Son and I hope someday we can celebrate their subversion. Someday it will all come out 🌅
I bet they planned to use Born in the USA but someone remembered it was written by The Boss and MAGAt felon “hates” him today.
They could have gone for “War Pigs” and that lot wouldn’t have clued in.
MAGAt felon has often ILLEGALLY used it on his campaigns so it was probably used for that reason. It’s not like MAGAt felon knows what the song is about
I think that the only intentional thing is the stupid ditty.
Well you k it is he didn’t HATE The Boss Born In The USA would definitely have been in there
* know if he* We REALLY need an edit button
We need an edit button for our government, waiting for the next election is a very iffy proposition.
Much room for chain of command ignorance.
An ocean.
Especially now
They did know what the song was.
OR maybe they did. Guaranteed MAGAt felon does NOT
He likes that song. Because he has no self-awareness at all.
Very true. Same for his cult.
That is what kills me. I really wish people would listen to the lyrics and have some basic comprehension skills. He hates Bruce. Otherwise, they would have played Born In The USA as a patriotic song.
You’re right about The Boss.
They knew.
I think it's unironic. Please direct your attention to exhibit A, Wrangler ad 2002: youtu.be/eaPTL-1yphQ?... This unironic patriotic co-opting of protest music has been going on full steam since 9/11/01
Dear God. The amount of stupid people doing stupid things is amazing.
Well it's just life's unanswerable question, that quiz for the ages. Why do bad things happen to good people...why do good things happen to bad people. Why do dumb things happen to stupid people?
In the ad, the song is trimmed down to the opening guitar, followed by "Some folks are born made to wave the flag, ooh that red white and blue", followed immediately by a quick edit to the bridge.
Well, just like Raygun playing "Born in the USA" all the time...wingers and irony don't mix LOL
Well they do really like the Village People YMCA. So there's that to lead one in the direction of how to understand the understandable!!!!
Wouldn’t that be awesome if it was a dig? Like Les Mis for that state dinner spectacle 😂👏🏻👏🏻💙
At first I thought it was a dig at bone spurs but it turns out Trump plays it at his rallies. When it was written it was a dig at people like Trump and "W" but not specifically. www.mediaite.com/media/entert...
Aw bummer
Whoever chose this song, chose to rebel. It's aimed at Trumpolini and his court.
He played it often at his rallies the first time around. Part of his aim is also to humiliate US on world stage.
Most right wingers have no idea what the song is about. A few years ago this happened at a trump rally (2020). If it was a calculated dig, I’m damn impressed.
I hope lots of people are explaining that to him because there is no way he will understand until he has been told 10 times
And even then …
Nah they’re running for cover. He’d probably order them shot.
Hope they tell him what YMCA is about while they're at it.
well as this is the guy fascinated by the size of a golfer's penis maybe he does know
That’s because he hasn’t been able to find HIS is decades of ever
With crayons and short words :)
Some folks are born, silver spoon in hand Lord, don't they help themselves, yeah But when the taxman comes to the door The house look a like a rummage sale 'this is you telling the tax man your properties are not worth much sir'
It ain't me, it ain't me, I ain't no fortunate son.
No. That dumbfuck used that song in his rallies. The dude just don't know the meaning of lyrics in that song. youtube.com/shorts/TPSPa...
B'cos listening to more than just the chorus would take too much brain power.
If you look at the meaning of most all these songs, I think the choices were very intentional and a big FU.
MAGAts seem to think Born in the USA is a joyful American anthem. And, surely, someone has explained YMCA to him by now.
Same ppl who have an annual meltdown learning Rage Against the Machine's meaning.
I'd say they must have, but gosh darn it, it's just so catchy! 😔😋
I like to think it's something like closeted humanity and subconscious guilt seeping out around their walls of sociopathic fear and denial
Maybe the MAGAts listening to Bruce Springsteen should actually listen to him youtu.be/byQdYoXKNys
Reagan famously said he was a fan of the song, too (because also didn't pay attention to the lyrics).
We were at a diner that had those old timey table juke boxes and my girls dad played Bruce and the guy next to us said “shame, he went from Born in the USA to America hater”. My girls dad explained the song to the guy and he nearly looked like he was gonna cry. He really didn’t know. Crazy.
Surprised they did not include Born in the USA….
It was played by a young man at the protest in Harrisburg…
He HATES The Boss sooooooo
🤣🤣 my guess is both! Just like trump going to see Les Misérables........ he had no clue, so he likely picked out the song himself too!
He doesn't pick anything except his nose. He's so drugged most of the time he can't choose his own meals.
And definitely doesn’t use his gold plated toilet by himself. Probably hasn’t wiped his own azz is decades
They could have added Woody Guthrie's "Old man Trump" as well.
I need to erase this information from my mind immediately. One of my favorite songs how dare they
It almost feels like Fortunate Son was selected to target Don Taco.
Yes!
He also wrote anti-George Bush songs & recorded them on his own album! He contained multitudes
I'm sorry, I should have clarified that I'm mainly upset about the use of Led Zeppelin here
Ah. Valid. Indeed.
Jake Holmes singing Dazed and Confused is fantastic if you've never heard it www.youtube.com/watch?v=pTsv...
damn this is like shoegaze decades early
Wow za thank you!!
omfg and the I'm a Pepper jingle
I thought that one was Barry Manilow.
Manilow performed an earlier Dr. Pepper jingle (written by Holmes and Randy Newman) but didn't write it. Manilow did write "You Deserve a Break Today" (McDonald's) and "Stuck on Band-Aid" — both bangers.
WHAT
😳👍
Robert Plant re-used a lot of ex-Zeppelin riffs on his song “Tall Cool One” Great song from his solo years!!!
Fortunate Son? That's right up there with Reagan playing Born in the USA
Right??? And tRUmp used to play it too til Bruce put an end to it 😂
Fortunate Son en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fortuna...
👍👍😆💙
Original performers of these songs saying "we never gave our permission for this" in 5...4...3....
Oh Fogerty sued the 🍊 felon over using the song on the campaign trailer. They used the muzak instrumental versions of the songs so my guess is a public domain grayish area.
Lyrics to My Hero: Don't the best of them bleed it out While the rest of them peter out? Truth or consequence, say it aloud Use that evidence, race it around
Someone needs to post all of the karaoke songs from the parade. I heard it was pretty funny.
Presume Born in the USA would have been on it too if trump hadn't had a baby tantrum about Springsteen?
They also played For What's it's worth (album version) sometime before the show. The setlist was made by an ally.
About Damn Time? Seriously?? That song's basically about going out with your squad to party after a stressful week. Do they only read the titles of the songs? Though that wouldn't explain Enter Sandman or Sweet Child o' Mine.
Fortunate Son is also ridiculous, of course. But so is nearly everything else about this setlist.
No Kid Rock?
genuinely impressed they didn't play Born in the USA
or Long Walk Home 😂 Trump is trying to pick a fight with a man of substance & style who is far tougher and smarter, Bruce Springsteen
It’s 100% purely because of Trumps cuck Twitter spat with Bruce
I count four bands that are gonna sue for sure.
I keep watching this and I think a good interpretation of this is the middle finger shuffle
There were no traditional marches?
Right? Where's the Sousa? Is it even a parade in the US without at least one Sousa march?
🤦🏻♀️
🥲
Sorry to be pedantic but the Led Zeppelin song they played was Good Time Bad Times. =)
Please tell me Van Halen is not ok with this? 🤬@wolfiesmom.bsky.social
For a Guns N Roses track they should have chosen the Civil War.
Ans from Metallica they should have chosen "One".
You should update setlist dot fm www.setlist.fm/setlist/the-...
The Ocean followed by Jump. Sound advice.
No Ave Maria? How could they not play the head moron's song?
Aha. I assumed it was all sound-alike pseudo-covers. The band is quite talented, but I wonder if Sec. Hegseth is familiar with their repertoire from the first Trump term ... www.youtube.com/watch?v=w2iq...
I suppose they played Right Now by Van Halen but how wonderful would it be if it was Right Now by Akon? www.youtube.com/watch?v=vIaH...
I dunno. Given the current situation in Los Angeles , the lines "And when the band plays "Hail to the chief" Ooh, they point the cannon at you, Lord" seems kinda on point.
Kudos to the person who created that set list
This is a remarkably random setlist. I suspect all to provide cover for this magnificent gem.
No, this is an amazing "Malicious Compliance" set list.
I love how they slipped some Lizzo in there.
Also, there’s soooooo little gravitas in this setlist, and the most marchable song here is by Lizzo.
I love Heart, but playing Barracuda and Magic Man when they were draft dodgers to Canada...🤣
As a VN vet, I prefer the term "war resister" over "draft dodger" for those who went to Canada to avoid being dragged into fighting a war they didn't believe in
Nothing personal meant by it. That's the term the band has used over the years when discussing it. Thank you for your service!
that's a great setlist and i hope whoever chose it was trolling them
bsky.app/profile/jims...
SEPARATE WAYS??? Jesus.
Gotta love a band just playing a song, not giving a shit about the optics of it
hopefully they started with Earth Wind and Fire's "Fantasy"
Separate Ways is an extremely aggressive choice.
I cannot stress enough that “It’s about damn time” was like that old SNL middle school music teacher pop song bit. bsky.app/profile/bria...
📌
What garbage! It looks like goofy club.
Lucky they didn’t get deported for “uno, dos, tres, catorce.”
I only watched a couple of minutes here and there, but I swore I heard the opening chords of Zeppelin's Immigrant song at one point. That would have been another great troll.
that was barracuda
Fortunate Son? Fortunate Son? What in the Jumping Jesus Toast Christ on a Motherfucking Pogo Stick?
We’ve jumped the shark. If you tried pitching this story as a movie or tv show, they’d be rolling their eyes at how over the top unbelievable it is.
If you were picking music that was difficulty to march to…
Methinks some artists are not happy about this. And while John Fogerty is prob pissed, their apparent not understanding the lyrics to Fortunate Son is hilarious….
What a rag tag bunch
Only he gets it. The army that has lost all wars since 2nd world war looks exactly like a bunch of inmates goin to make slave work.
So, I’m sitting here thinking about my tax dollars paying ($&@?) for this instead of helping to pay for someone’s else’s much needed medicine. 😑
Were any of these songs written in this century? 🤣
No, but many are Viet Nam anti-war songs. Army band 'Downrange' apparently is voicing its own quiet dissent about the parade
Nice. Perfect trolling. 😎 youtube.com/shorts/w63wZ...
🤣 en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fortuna...
Vertigo guess he doesn’t know Bono hates him too
I wonder how many of those were preapproved by the artists?
Were they all the karaoke versions like this?
When you can’t get the rights to songs you want.
This just can not be real
This is very similar to the playlist at my kid's elementary school robotics tournament years ago.
Heart should definitely sue.
Just guessing that 'Downrange' chose its setlist as a form of quiet internal dissent.😎 Rock'n'Roll explains the world.🫣
Keep on rockin' in the free world
This just sounds like some random Gen Xers playlist
Also they 100% would’ve played Born in the USA if it wasn’t for the Trump tantrum against Bruce a couple weeks back
As a Rocker/Metalhead I have to say that's a quite good playlist. 🤘 And full of artists that despite the orange clown for sure. 🤣
Sadly they missed Bulls on Parade by Rage Against the Machine. That would have been the cherry on top!
Couldn't even get the rights to the song. Had to use the 1998 WCW wrestler entrance music style
So did they all jump and touch the Hokie Stone afterwards
Gulf War butt-rock playlist
hey "Jump" is an awesome song. Van Halen's and Kris Kross'
Edward Van Halen, an immigrant whose family was chased out of his home country for being part Asian and who was bullied as a child by white kids in the United States, surely would have approved
Wiggity wiggity wiggity wack (Is that the correct number of wiggities?)
Followed.
confirmed
Also the Pointer Sisters
And XTC
Did they play Majors and Generals?
Van halen and Metallica aren’t butt rock 😤
sorry my dude, but the platonic ideal of butt rock is still butt rock
You made me cackle and I am very proud of that
People showed up to the Gulf War parade. And it was on a school night.
Fortunate son was a Vietnam protest song
I dated a Navy man a while back that was in first one as medic. He would help with the wild psychotropic music to blast at enemy. They would put on shit like Diamanda Galas to freak them out.🔥
JC , I just to had to find a song from her ….. 👀
She screams a lot in her early stuff.😂😂😂
The I heard was whispering … creeepy af
Her whispering was used as Foley in the 1990s Coppola dracula.
🙏
That tracks. I don't know why, but it just seems right.
Cool!
Your ex knew his shit!
He was a music guy.😂
There is no way Van Halen or Metallica would approve of this at all. Like Lars ulrich would spit at the thought (he’s from Denmark…)
Always a great idea to play a song by a band with such flag-waving hits as "Disposable Heroes" and "One"
I know Metallica is gearing up for another lawsuit
I'm hoping whoever picked the music *did* listen to the words.
As they did for YMCA ?
The soldiers are listening, I can promise you that.
the song playing in the video is Fortunate Son by Creedence Clearwater Revival but i didn't hear any lyrics. the song is a protest song against sending the poor to die in Vietnam.
Some saboteur chose that for one of his 2020 rallies too--
The rich boys all had #bonespurs.
Metallica are anti war last I checked
Yep. Live Army band. That guitarist with the video game tone was way out over his skis.
Born in the U.S.A. and War Pigs too on the nose?
Meanwhile they aren't even marching in step. What a fucking embarrassment
Should have had the words, with the Circle Jerks cover version. I wonder if Kim Jun Un has days like this 🤔
ah yes, classic marching songs
Which would help explain why that's the sloppiest parade marching I've ever seen. They look like they're slouching forward in half step.
I forget what the type of marching they’re doing is called—military life for me was very short and very long ago—but it’s the relaxed “We’re only walking from A to B; it’s not formal, just keep your basic fuckin’ posture together,” march. So they didn’t even bother with ANY parade marching.
I think it's at ease march? Everything else would require a proper step.
Yes, that thing. It requires being in rank and file and carrying a military bearing, but that’s about it. No lockstep, no rigid motions, just casual sauntering
You've misspelled wankfest
I mean, you'd have to have someone calling cadence (music's too loud) or a band playing marches. I suspect the intent was actual marching, but they of course flubbed it.
Sousa was RIGHT THERE. Victim of his own success really.
lol yeah “why the fuck am I here” energy aside, the rhythm and tempo of those songs is completely unmarchable
It's not like the US produced the greatest composer of marching music in history or he's our most famous composer or anything. That would be *really* embarassing. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:Jo...
can practically feel the marching
hell, I'd even settle for the "Keeping Up Appearances" theme
Yes! I call it shmlarching
Yea. Enter Sandman. Let's protect every single kid in this nation - by playing a song about alien of some kind kidnapping the damn kid in some type of Monster Inc B movie horror shit.
They’ve said it’s about crib death/SIDS. Not any better
Just... like bad bar band versions omg
I’m convinced this shit music is AI generated until proven otherwise.
nah it’s the original chatgpt: bad cover bands
Hey now, if we had more bad cover bands acting as social lubricant we’d be in a way better place right now. I remember cooking at a bar when I was 19 that booked a band that could not play La Grange by ZZ Top without the drummer turning it into a polka and I miss those days so hard.
fuck that’s so good. you need that kinda thing at bars definitely. bad cover bands were the perfect iteration, chatgpt is too far, we must retvrn
Yes! We must go back to the days of half-assedly working on those night moves.
…because Trump and his minions are usually on top of shit?
Of course, "Jump" was inspired by a rooftop suicide that David Lee Roth saw on TV. Never heard that song the same way again.
No “Born In The USA”?
And Trump will be sued for illegally using them without musician consent just like he always is.
Also it sounds like they’re broadcasting cheering along with the music? Because there’s definitely nobody cheering in the video.
so only the worst of based White male anthems
Disgrace to rock and roll
How unmartial. They look like a contingent of recently released prisoners of war.
They had to get the (pretty mid) cover band because Fogerty filed a C&D against them already guitar.com/news/music-n...
The more I learn about John Fogerty the more I see him as, not only a talented artist, but a helluva patriot and a stellar human being🇺🇸
This is either epic trolling or epic failure. Either way I love it.
I think it trolling. That and a lot of 'not tight' marching tells me that this was a widespread protest by a lot of participants to being used as props in Trump's narcissistic fantasy wetdream. I think I love that they are thinking feeling humans who found a way to show it but avoid trouble.
I was just thinking, that ain't marching; that's strolling. Good choice.
I believe they know Trump doesn't know the difference.
And they aren't even trying to march in step. It's like the formation version of flipping the finger!!!
The most lackluster marching I've ever seen
To be fair, marching isn’t really a priority outside of basic training
I'm totally getting that vibe.
Former marching band kid here, they can’t march in time because it’s way too fast. And if they did march in time, it would look silly
Yeah but they aren't even in step with each other with the exception of a single group of them
yeah but when they march, they typically have someone keeping time. When trained to march, you always have someone singing to keep that time! AROC normally does it. They drill for particular times. They almost certainly did not drill for these songs. They probably weren't told.
So in order to march to a time, you have to know what time you're marching to, which means you'll probably also need to know a little bit about music! When you don't have someone screaming the timing to you you now have to GUESS. And everyone has to guess independently. And some will be wrong.
Have definitely heard the singing - I wonder if they were told not to sing while the music was playing. What does AROC stand for? I could only find Army Requirements Oversight Council, but that seems a little to back-office for this context.
Assistant Recruit Chief Petty Officer, said AROC, but actually spelled ARCPO. It doesn't mean anything outside of basic, they just pick some competent people, one to be the recruits' 'leader,' and another to be the assistant to them.
Thanks!
that was the hand-picked speech crowd from the other day, providing parade support
That's not even a march, it's just guys walking. I almost burst out laughing when I noticed
Several in each company may have been in step.
Absolutely correct! If there’s only a beat you can’t step together to, there’s nothing to hold it together. Pretty amazing that even one small group of them were together. I wonder if someone was calling an audible there.
Agreed. Hell, they probably could've marched in half time, like every other beat. Or even just follow the person ahead of them.
Um, they drill for this. They do usually have a time keep of some sort - the lack is perhaps a sign they didn't want to present that level of discipline in response to the orders to march.
Unsurprising. We had better discipline in marching band.
Marching in step is not the same as marching in time to the music. It means marching in unison, at the same pace. Like the military does at other parades and functions. You know, everyone's left foot, then everyone's right foot...
I would think playing loud music with a different tempo makes it harder to stay in step
Probably so. But one unit was managing, and they do drill for this. On the other hand, marching in step to Fortunate Son would be *chef's *kiss level irony...
Former here, too. But even so... clearly they're not trying very hard. They totally could sharpen this up if they wanted.
True 🙂
The purpose of a military’s march in formation to a set cadence is to enable a big group of people cover miles at a determined pace. It also ensures tactics plans are successful when leaders know a group’s training makes them able to cover x miles in y time.
And is that guy at the end even saluting? It looks like he is just patting his own head!!
First thing I noticed was they were not in step. They look like they don't want to be there. Hope spaghetti isn't on the birthday menu tonight, as the walls might be under seige.
The U.S. Army was trained for war. They were never meant to participate in farces like this "anniversary parade" (read: 47's birthday celebration).
Absolutely, soldiers marching like that in China could face the firing squad.
Im of the belief that half these soldiers were put on parade duty as a penalty or punishment from a drill Sargeant, or much higher officers pranking some of their men.
I noticed that immediately myself. It's downright odd to see that. 🤷♂️
That was the first thing I noticed
That's called an "at ease" march. It's pretty normal for a longer parade routes. What's baffling is that they stayed at ease when passing in review and even while rendering honors. I was a one-term weenie and haven't drilled a platoon in 25 years and I'm sitting here going "WTF???"
I was listening to the same song at my protest today
“I ain't no senator’s son…”
They should've played that Team America song 🤣
Fuck Yeah! 🦅🇺🇲📺🍺⛪📚🚁💣🇺🇲🦅
Everyone looks miserable.
Those May Day Red Army parades Trump wanted to imitate? The Soviets had special parade units whose job it was to look impressive for those. It was what they trained for. US Army trains to fight, not to march in straight lines down wide boulevards.
BUT we still know HOW to much a parade, & it's BETTER than this. Heck a PT formation at 5 a.m. is BETTER than this. And we SING when we march.
Not to be too picky but I would hardly call what the troops were doing "marching". This was more like an amble. No spring in the step. Lots of soldiers with 2 left feet.
US military has smaller units that do nothing but parade and ceremonies. You see them a lot living near DC. Even one that specializes in fife and drum music. Not nearly on the scale we are talking about though.
Yeah there's about enough of them to do a funeral procession, when they're not busy guarding the Tomb of the Unknown.
Once you count all the bands it’s actually a sizable number. Even before the recent dogginess the US spent more on military music than the NEA. Anyone with some skill in logistics could have put on a decent parade. But competency is not our leaderships strong suit.
Given the fact that folks are still needing FEMA support (which he scrapped), and thousands have lost their federal jobs due to “waste and abuse”, and his “big beautiful bill” will scrap Medicaid and make American lives more difficult, a vanity dictator parade was never necessary.
Not arguing otherwise. Just pointing out that the US and its armed services got the skills to put on an impressive parade. That this administration squandered those skills to produce this orgy of militaristic conspicuous consumption is an embarrassment not least to the people forced to participate.
That marching, if it can even be described as such is truly appalling though, is there something I don't understand as a Brit? Don't US military spend any basic training learning to march?
Melania de Vil
F-her
They look like prisoners
I agree.
Like POWs getting shame-marched through the enemy capitol.
This!!
Yeah, they really do.
It’s like they just hired a bunch of random folks and told them to walk down the road. They only had three units and they kept walking around the block! #FightFascism
The D&C blocks of instructions must have changed. Fuck Trump, but marching a formation in front of the sitting president may have warranted a refresher. The Rangers get a pass because fuck D&C when you're a ranger, it's called ranger walk for a reason.
They were doing it intentionally. They wanted to embarrass 47.
Honoring Mr. draft dodging bone spurs=" a fortunate son" x5 with a hard driving single and all those soldiers out there marching...and the obese orange fool. was clueless. What could be more beautiful. www.businessinsider.com/donald-trump...
Man I've been getting perfect formation PLA propaganda since 2008 and the US military can't even choreograph a fucking walk
Methinks that was a slow walk.
It’s the mobile version of a slow clap.
According to some of my buddies in the service, it's a "safe" way to show their displeasure/rebel by being intentionally off-step and other stuff.
I noticed the troops were not really marching. They were just kinda ambling down the street. I love that for #TACOboy! Fuck that turd!
I retired an infantry platoon sergeant. It's what you would have seen had I given the "Forward at the route step, march" command. My platoon despised parades and, I think, so do most of the troops. I wouldn't be surprised if a lot of the "ambling down the street" was intentional.
I also find it strange the troops were not in Class A dress uniforms. I guess things have changed quite a bit in the last 50+ years.
Thank you for your service, Sarge, and your input. Whatever was going on there, it certainly was quite loose & informal. Hard to imagine soldiers wanting to perform for a guy who calls them “losers & suckers”.
They call it the bone-spur shuffle.
Perfect! 👍
It is, yeah. It's actually difficult to march out of step, if you're active duty. You and your buddies go out to the bar or for pizza? You ACCIDENTALLY walk in-step. It's automatic. If you see anyone here not in step, it's them saying fuck you without drawing an article 15.
I remember trying to do it back in marching band as a teen, and even then it was near impossible because it's just "natural" to synch up after a while.
Grew up military and I agree with your buddies. There's no way that was anything but intentional. They were in front of their commander in chief and gave that display? Intentional. Had to be.
Hell, even the squeaking of the tanks is a giveaway that they're NOT pleased with doing this and are saying so in ways that get the point across while still "following orders"
Oh they can. Ask why they didn't.
There it is.
I assume whoever chose that song had only heard it played during war movies & thought it was a great choice. 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
It could also be intentional since Trump played it during his campaign and everyone mocked him because President Bone Spurs very much was the Fortunate Son and got away with it while poor people without recourse bled and died in Vietnam.
He clearly also has no idea of the meaning behind it. I doubt anyone would have the guts to explain it to him. Whoever chose it is equally oblivious, or they were intentionally trolling him. Either way, it’s brilliant 😁
He didn’t know he’s Javare
I expect it's very intentional. All of it *waves arms* was VERY intentional.
More than a few brothers there as well.
No one seems to be smiling.
Pathetic. They soldiers can’t even walk in step.
They most certainly can walk in step. But they're not.
Hmm. Perhaps then they're showing that they don't want to be there?
Awesome troll
yes, indeed, and I find it delicious
Tacky af🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
They’re not even marching in cadence.
That has to be on purpose.
It HAS to be. When I was in, we always marched in step no matter what. This has to be a form of protest from the soldiers!
I was f'ing ANC (Australian Navy Cadets) and then AAC (Australian Army Cadets) in my youth. Even us teenagers marched better than this.
Exactly. Looks like they’re not even making an attempt.
My High School marching band was more in lock step than these guys.
Love it. Is marching out of step an act of civil disobedience?
I would like to think so
💯 I would have, if some pathetic draft dodger with a spray tan called me "loser" and "sucker".
Great. Now, we are going to have North Korea laughing at our marching. Thanks for embarrassing us, Trump.
North Korea and Russia: ROFL The rest of the world: WTF?
A great lesson on what happens when you defund the arts and humanities. Media literacy can save us all from the unbearable weight of cringe.
Those poor guys look so embarrassed
Saw them marching out of step and thought of the Clone Troopers marching into the Jedi Temple...
I was thinking about the movie, Stripes.
jesus christ 🤦♀️
At ease marching?
If they were any more disinterested they would be going backwards!
Yes!
It ain't me I ain't no military son
Did Trump request "Favorite Son"?
For a guy who "hates war," he sure gets juiced by soldiers, tanks, and weapons of war.
He gets off on the attention.
… well we knew they lacked basic media literacy already. Tho I have to say having that width of formation on such a wide street makes the units look *tiny*.
If it would fit on the Main Street in my hometown it is too narrow to look impressive on Constitution Ave, folks!
C'est mignon des militaires qui ne marchent pas au pas 🤠
Are they off-beat on purpose?
I know as Air Cadets we were told to break stride when on a bridge, is Washington, DC considered a bridge? en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Brought...
Probably. March is still part of military training, even though It's not used in war.
They're not even marching in step. That was a thing during my very brief stint in the army.
I believe it’s a statement
Yes, it was, but I wrote that right after they first started marching, before we knew the truth..
He'll, I never served, but was in the Boy Scouts and High School Band and we marched better than that
I was in marching band, too. My favorite memory was 1976, when we marched in the Rose Bowl Parade. We were definitely in step. 😊
Yeah. It's very sloppy. They are definitely showing a lot of pride while representing the United States of America. Those poor guys
We once were the envy of the world, right?
Morale is low. You can't ask disillusioned human beings to put their lives on the line.
They wanted to make 47 look bad, and weak. They did.
It worked. Boy was he pissed, and took it out on Hegseth.
I know now. I didn't know then. That was right after they had begun marching.
Marching in step was a thing that started in Jr. High marching band for me. I can't believe they're not even marching in step just because it's the logical thing to do. Must be one of those new Trump admin things.
It was in protest, or so I read from ex-military. Makes sense…
There is a very good reason why soldiers and cadets usually march to a marching band and not to rock songs. The clue's in the name.
Other groups do march to rock music, and even if soldiers and cadets dont. And it makes our soldiers look sloppy, and lazy. You shouldn't see that in Trumps want to be North Korean America.
bsky.app/profile/team...
I can't, either.
They're strolling! Just having a stroll.
Lol. It sure seemed like it
I served in the army too and that was the first thing I noticed, they are all out of step. That's a very big deal in the army and any group past the second week of basic training knows how to march better than this. Maybe a way to silently protest, or maybe they are so disgusted they just don't care
Trump put uniforms on maga, like J6 rioters, and it shows.
I think you may be right.
The soldier at the :54 mark gives zero fucks. My drill instructors would have screamed “ hippity hop, mob stop!” and made us go back to the beginning to start over.
Im trying to understand if they did it on purpose, or why?
Marching in step is not hard. (Not easy on Day 1 of Boot Camp but you soon find it.) And you don’t need music or a snare drum to keep time. It’s muscle memory. Maybe marching to a cover band playing Night Ranger was too much. Some may have intentionally gotten out of step, or didn’t care, or both.
I know. Its not hard at all. I did it, so there's proof. I just meant Trump was wanting things to be so professional, that didnt happen.
They didn't do "eyes right" as a salute to him
Old Army brat here ca. late 1960s ...and while Dad was no "parade-ground dog" he understood how excercises like marching in tight step were important.
You sure aren't projecting strength if you're just shambling, as someone just said.
Cripes, it looked like the goddamn Shriners' Parade.
I agree completely.
My husband was in the army and said they never marched out of step. He is convinced it was their way of protesting.
I hope that he's right.
Nope! that's their best. The US military are a danger to themselves and anybody unfortunate enough to be allied to them. Friend of mine in 7th Armoured in the Gulf War told me they were shooting at themselves and us on a daily basis. Quote 'Bunch of arseholes the lot of them'
I was thinking it was malicious compliance. Trump has no clue how it’s supposed to look and most troops are annoyed by having to do any parade detail. It’s awful. Like first week of basic awful. I can’t imagine it being accidental as terrible as it is.
Very much NOT squared away lol
Grew up in the USAF and I immediately noticed that too. I find it hard to believe anything except that it was intentional. The Army's way of protesting(?).
As the humblest of air force reservists, it was painfully obvious how out of step they were. This was a casual stroll more than anything.
Thank you so much for serving. 🤗🤗🤗
Thats right. Its amazing that people are trying to make it into something else.
Yes. "[P]ainfully obvious" was my experience too. I'm reminded of some movie I saw where a soldier was ordered to salute s.o. he vehemently disagreed w/ and the soldier shoved his hands deep into his pockets. Thank you for your sacrifice and service. 🫡
I’m surprised their commanding officer allowed it. Or maybe they decided to do it at the last minute. Or maybe we are all wrong, and because they were going to march for a long distance, they were allowed to do it this way?
I've wondered the same thing. (1) the CO was on board; or (2) they got in trouble and didn't care. I've seen "dressing downs" before and it's a lot of yelling but that's it. MAYBE they got some demerits and/or crap duty (like cleaning toilets or mess duty (KP)). My best guess.
Not even out of step but mostly shambling honestly
Many of them are out of step.
I tried to type not JUST out of step but also just shambling haha. Not all of it made it apparently
🤗🥰
Not *just* out of step. Mb
I never served in the army, but this doesn't look like a group marching out of step to me. Wouldn't they be bumping into each other in that case? It does look like a group that's shambling, trying to keep in step enough not to bump into each other, but not really crisp in their movements.
I believe that it is shambling, too. But that i don't why they would do that with something Trump is trying to portray as professional.
Watching the parade excerpts was a saddening experience for me. Our dedicated men and women in the army deserved a celebration of the U.S. Army's 250 years of service. Because it was linked to tRump's birthday celebration, and about him, they weren't celebrated as they should have been.
Thats right.
we were GRILLED on marching in step in the BOY SCOUTS those troops are absolutely marching under duress
I was in band. We made it to the Rose Bowl Parade in 1976, so our marching was pretty good, and in-step.
We marched harder in high school marching band.
I loved being in band. Lots if cool trips. Lol
more like: they're saying "F this s**t" with their body language. Good for them.
I wonder. They might be genuine troops telling Trump to fuck himself to hell and back or they might not be real soldiers 🤔
Now we know. Im so glad they did that.
Thats what it was, and im so grateful they "spoke" up.
Yeah that’s what I said
I wonder if that was a planned act of defiance? Subtle, but noticeable.
It could be. I would love it if that was true .
Hell, anyone who has been in marching band does it better.
I was thinking that all day. Most of them were just walking by, formations out of sync. If it was protest, good for them, but they looked like a bunch of slobs.
According to the person that responded before you did soldiers and cadets don't march to rock songs.
makes sense. it doesn't look good though.
Maybe, but he was mocking me for saying they weren't in step. I've never watched a parade that had soldiers looking sloppy like that.
In military or drill contexts, "route step, march" signifies a command to march in a relaxed manner, allowing individuals to maintain intervals and distance but not necessarily requiring them to stay in step or maintain silence.
Ok, I get that, but it looks sloppy. Trump wanted a North Korea-type parade, and didn't get it.
This makes us look so weak. 😰
This is awkward.
What a joke, but totally on par🤡…so did they bring out the clown cars? That would have been icing on cake.
How insulting to the troops to hear this while marching for an actual "fortunate son" draft dodger
No offence to troops but they weren’t marching. Marching they would all be in step. They were walking, probably deliberately. A quiet form of protest I would think.
Thank you. I came to the replies to see if anyone else noticed how out of step they were
Daughter of a band director here & was in marching band in high school—song is too fast to march to. But it could have been slowed down to make it “marchable.” (Apart, of course, from the whole problem of the lyrics & meaning of Fortunate Son, that is…). #NoKings
Yes, I’m sure that didn’t help, but unlike marching bands, the military normally marches without music. The fast music might have distracted a few of them, but that was god-awful. Cadence is so drilled in that a group of soldiers/Marines going to the bar tend to fall in step.
True! I am 69 and could probably still do 8 to 5 down a football field. Muscle memory is powerful.
4547 Seems bored.
It's so embarassing. It's the parade equivalent of when he served cold McDonalds at the White House.
They're kinda just walking.
How are you supposed to march to this music? Waiting for the birthday jubilant to start dancing though.
It’s easy when the song is 4/4. Typically your left foot hits the ground on the first and third beat. All of Credence Clearwater sing are in that time.
beyond the subtext i mean LITERALLY NOT SUBTEXT JUST TEXT, also it's got a terrible beat and they can't march to it
I give it a 64, Dick. It has a good beat, but it's difficult to dance to.
Is this an AI generated parade?
no, it happened, cspan had it live and it was streamed on the white house youtube and twitter pages.
If it was AI they’d be marching in step.
🤣
Marching in step but with extra limbs and fingers 🤣
All three legs!
Might be they're out of step as a fuck you to the guy who is making them do this bullshit.
Song is too fast for marching anyways, Sousa is spinning rn
Valid. The cadence doesn't cadence.
They probably got rid of the Black members for the aesthetics.
Did you even watch the video? Every formation had people of color. I don't think these troops were hand picked. That's why they are strolling instead of marching. These are not all Trump cultists..
Paid DEI participants. Sad!
I was unclear. I was talking about the terrible music that offered NO SUPPORT to the men marching. For clarity; they probably got rid of the musicians of color for aesthetics, and those musicians took the beat and pep with them. #listlessstrole. Black, white, or indifferent, when ordered you march.
I see where the mixup happened. You said members. I read military members. You meant band members. I'm still glad the parade was a shithow.
Hard to find words to describe how I feel about that.
Yup.
Look at those formations 😂😂😂
Why in the world do they not have the Army band out there?
They all called in sick.
Wow...
There are hardly any people watching!
vaya puto ridículo
This isn't even half-assing it...this is quarter-assing, which is when half-assing is putting in a bit too much ass.
I’m gonna remember this. I can use this one again.
TY! 🤣
Consider it a gift.
Got it from Bob's Burgers. Wish I could claim credit for it.
I ❤️ this
Idiots
Pathetic
You should have included video of that spectacular float with a real time display of paint drying.
OMG! 🤣
Sounds like a scene from Apocalypse Now! What a travesty on the seriousness our troops deserve 😥
Their marching is shit. We would’ve been in hella trouble in the Air Force if we looked all ragged and out of step like that. Wtf? Maybe they’re deliberately trying to look like shit as a form of protest?
Hopefully that is it, otherwise I feel bad for them. After watching hundreds of military marching in perfect unison at the Queens funeral this is cringe. I hope Donald, who yearns for perfect pomp and ceremony is painfully aware of this.
It's the only logical explanation for this. They're trying on purpose to not even try. And honestly, I can't blame them. Participating in the parade to begin with is beneath them and their credentials, and these troops know it full well. They know it's a stupid idea.
HOW DO PEOPLE STILL CONTINUE MISSING THE POINT OF THIS GODDAMN SONG. IT’S NOT LIKE IT’S IN ANOTHER GODDAMN LANGUAGE OR SOMETHING.
My favorite version of this was the Wrangler ad that only played the part of the song that said this below, over some images of patriotic-type beach football and stuff happening in jeans: “Some folks are born made to wave the flag Hoo, they're red, white and blue” aaaaaaaaaaaand CUT!
It has „flag“ and „red, white and blue“ so it must a patriot song?
Same thing with Born in the USA lol
I’d say they think it evokes all the ‘cool’ Vietnam War movies…sans Context of course
Pretty sure someone asked ChatGPT what music the troops like
It was in a movie with guns and helicopters so it must be patriotic
Given the recent upset about Springsteen protesting Trump, it seems people also still continue to miss the point of Born in the USA, so I guess they are consistent.
Trump voters are disproportionately Christian. Jesus' primary message is anti-capitalist. The bible's antichrist descriptions warn against worshipping dictators just like him (even calling out false "greatest ever" promises). These people don't do detail-based reasoning. They operate on vibes alone.
Dunning Kreuger
They heard it in a Vietnam movie, but never actually listened to or thought about the lyrics. "Born in the USA" suffers the same fate, as does Presidential favourite, Village People's YMCA, which is about inclusiveness, although the writer denies there's a gay subtext.
The military band get the point. This is an obvious insult to 'bone spurs' trump.
Some people just hear a catchy melody & don't bother to actually hear what the artist is saying. They're listening but they aren't putting the components together to see the message being relayed.
Some people can’t even comprehend traffic signs, let alone poetry/lyrics
These same people also never got the point of "Born in the USA" because all they hear is the chorus.
I prefer to think they included it on purpose.
I mean, the title is "Fortunate Son" and whose self-fluffing parade is this, after all?
As a French person used to our culturally and historically motivated military parade that cost ~3.5M I’m surprise to see that “amateur hour” Trump one cost 45M 🤷♀️🤷♀️🤷♀️
Salutations to the French. Did you know that yesterday the British Army Trooped the Colour in honour of the King? Another culturally and historically motivated event that cost far less than $45M. And the Guards can march!
And we got Spitfires! And LOADS of people turned up, as they do every year. This is meant to be a one-in-a-lifetime event and this is how many people turn up? Ouch...
SPITFIRES!!!!! Look at them ... LOOK AT THEM!!!!! www.youtube.com/watch?v=_u4M...
The annoying thing is I meant to say Red Arrows, not Spitfires. But for this I'll let it stand. 😀
I hope you enjoyed the music. A catchy little number.
It is indeed, I love PSB.
I am no expert on military parades but the show also struck me as somewhat underwhelming. And the video production is hopelessly amateurish
You can’t fake enthusiasm.
It would help if the soldiers could actually march in step with each other rather than look like they are out for a stroll
That struck me as well, don't they teach the US Army to march?!
Perhaps the soldiers cannot disobey orders to "go clown around on a birthday party," but they *miiight* not execute them perfectly.
You're giving them way too much credit here, I think they're just a bit shit.
I like to think it's malicious compliance: obey orders EXACTLY, and definitely do not volunteer to fix any mistakes, down to the obvious difference between walking and marching. bsky.app/profile/rosa...
When I did my military service back when, I learned two modes of marching: "in step" / "without step" (don't know the English terms). The former was only for parades. Here, they used the latter. That must be intentional.
In the UK that would be 'march' and 'break step'. Those soldiers were shambling. Military protest step.
And they all appear to be wearing pyjamas as well. Compare that to dress uniforms in Europe. What a shabby turnout.
Warfighting warfighters are expected to warfight, marching in step is woke. Also you can't really march to CCR. If only the most famous military march composer was an American. Oh well.
They're clearly doing it on purpose. Look at those faces, those soldiers do NOT want to be there.
I’m sure the US Army can march when it wants to. About dress uniform, can’t the troops just wear the uniform of current issue in their unit? Do you think that members of Trump’s Regime understand the hazards of such low morale and motivation in the ranks?
British teenage cadets are more professional than that lot. Surely that was not the main event? 😬
I think that was probably deliberate lol No other way to show their distaste for having been dragooned into Trump's politicised birthday parade
And sloppy uniforms
They absolutely knew what they were doing.. IYKYK Every ounce of casual sloppiness was intentional
If your toes were as curled up as I assume theirs were here, you wouldn't be able to march properly either
They're very obviously doing that on purpose.
That’s how I used to march when I didn’t wanna be there.
Come to think of it: we used to cross bridges without cadence so as to avoid a rhythmic sway. (They might have considered contracting with Bill Murray for some unusual tactics).
I was just thinking...they all look incredibly embarassed
They surely are,but what's strange for a European is that apparently they never learnt how to military march properly .This is the very basic learning of any european soldier. & we do not learn it in order to be able to march for some national day,but to be able to move a complete unit efficiently.
They were not marching on purpose. Our troops know how to March. They just didn’t see the need to be honoring a convicted felon & traitor.
This seems to be the accepted explanation.
It is.
Bill Murray had his guys marching in step
Very effective for forming pike squares to fend off cavalry charges
They are very much doing this on purpose to "voice" their displeasure at being there.
Actually, if you look at footage from the 40s, US troops could march extremely well and were pretty snazzy in formations. I suspect the "doing it on purpose" option may be correct. That would also explain the dress-down Saturday uniform option as well!
I read that since the Army is in the middle of a uniform transition that not all soldiers have the same dress uniform - could explain the choice or maybe they wanted them to look ready for battle.
I have recently attended one of my son’s Army functions… multiple formations across a huge field making their way to present in front of the packed stands… they know how to march
Oh they absolutely know how to march. This was a choice.
Somewhat casual, yet not sashay
It looked like a group cadets playing soldier, and walking down to the chow house, which is what trump deserved
I was a cadet eons ago and can say first hand it takes a bunch of 13-16 year olds, a couple months of Wednesday evenings to learn how to march in perfect step. These trained soldiers were making a choice here.
We were taught to March properly. We marched everywhere in basic training. Every last joe in that formation lacked any interest in it. They were absolutely out for a stroll. I guarantee that the next change of command or brigade run, they will all be in step.
Because this administration is a corruption machine.
Great point, one more: Parade spend 45m$ FBI Reward to find Minnesota killer 50k$ Does anyone else take offence to this?
It's almost like they don't want to find him
It probably cost 3.5 million. The rest went to trump.
A third of the cost was set aside to repair the streets and the sewers below them afterwards, as unlike the Champs-Elysees, Pennsylvania Avenue wasn't built with military parades in mind. Even when we do have military parades in DC, they usually go from the Capitol down Constitution Avenue...
...to Arlington National Cemetary, and are held after the war, to symbolize the government handing the soldiers back to the people from whence they were drawn, and honoring the fallen dead. This one goes from the Pentagon to the White House, an army paying honor to its King. Very different vibe.
Do you actually think that our Champs Elysee were built to handle les chars Leclerc ?.... The pavement has to be redone on many parts of the avenue after every 14 juillet. Doesn't mean it costs 40 M+ ...
Then maybe you should redesign it to handle such parades. And road/rail construction/repair projects in the US are notoriously expensive on a per-mile basis for reasons I've never had satisfactorily explained to me.
Fake Melania appearance fees. Rising like the price of eggs.
You can bet a fair bit was probably magically siphoned off to the "Trump Presidential Library" 😂
I'm assuming he gave himself a $40 million birthday present. I'm not even mad. I hope the check I wrote April 15th went towards this because that look on his face was worth every penny, even if he embezzled most of it like he always does.
I’ve read the majority of the money will go toward repairing the roads after the parade—since they weren’t built to handle the weight of this military equipment!😡
That is deeply weird. Cost 190k to repair road in 2003 avec French parade. Even taking taking account of the inflation, the math don’t work. (Approx. 280k today…still less than the fireworks that cost all together 750k last year in Paris )
The grift is always the point
Wait -are they marching? 🫠 asking as a sailor who is an expert in directed drift 🫣
But they aren’t, are they? I’m not military, but it looks like they’re just walking along out of step. This seems . . . weird.
It could be demoralization of the troops- I sure Af wouldn’t want to be anything for that 🍊💩👀-it could also be a veiled insult by the commands and troops. They can’t speak up against Trump -it’s in the regs -so the insults and protests will be subtle like the choice of the song Senator’s son or 👇
When the Army choir sang a piece from Le Miserables. That’s why I’m trying to get civilians to pay attention and not go- omg all military bad. They have limited ways they can respond to this up to a point - that’s not to make excuses for unlawful detentions or behavior- just military is a slice of 👇
America- you’ll see every kind of American and political position represented -good bad weird- all of it. If this goes on- I expect the military to fracture. How that will look or play out is anyone’s guess
demoralized troops not wanting to be there having to march in line to music not fitting to marching, perfect combination!
Well-it’s a good sign to the Public. It’s a good sign to me- as a veteran back in the day- I’ve been to functions where we marched for a review- like Boot Camp graduation -and we looked-marched way better than that. They are sending signals let’s not miss it or miss acting on it
Dudes aren’t even in step…? 😂
Deliberate perhaps?
RIGHT?!?
I spent a few years in the US Army. We did a lot of things well, but marching in step wasn't one of them.
Are you for real? When and what Army were you in?
Shame, I love that song
Lmao, a lot of the soldiers don’t seem to know how to march together- they need a high school band director to teach that apparently
Unless of course, they are marching badly specifically to embarrass President Cheeto. In that case, you can ask for better choreography.
This "parade" is as pathetic as the "president" who wanted to be celebrated. 🤢
Is there a limit to irony??????!!!!!!!!!???????
lol they are just regular walking
Wow. And a Bastille Day parade actually makes sense.
I do feel bad for these guys and girls who had to be a part of this. How embarrassing.
Not for Trump ONE bit to be clear!!! He deserved to be humiliated
me too. we should be celebrating our military not that felon. that’s why they protested silently.
It looks like they are silently protesting by being deliberately bad at marching.
Haha they don’t look too happy.
Not even trying to march in unison. Those are beaten down troops wondering wtf they are doing there. And that music?? Good god!
CCR's 'Fortunate Son': "...It became an anthem and an expressive symbol of the counterculture's opposition to executive power grabs." Bear with me, but I kinda like seeing elements of our military march lazily past wannabe dear leader as this song plays, knowing he has no clue.
Has literally anyone ever listened to the lyrics past “born to wave the flag”?
I know those lyrics by heart so the answer is yes
Don Jr. must be in charge of the music. Only a dumbwad like him wouldn't know the meaning of this song. Donnie only knows the YMCA, and I Did it My Way.
I guess no one's seen Born of the Fourth of July.
Trump looks like he's sitting on a toilet.
Maybe that's where the gold toilet in London ended up.
How embarrassing
Fortunate Son? Really? Isn't that a protest song? I'm pretty sure it's a protest song....
Yep.
Literally about rich kids dodging the draft
Yes, it very much is.
YOU BET IT IS 1969 one of the most famous protest songs of the Vietnam War era, “Fortunate Son” youtu.be/ZWijx_AgPiA?...
Written by a guy who served… Which is why it became all that more important.
Absolutely is.
I came to always think of George W. Bush whenever I heard this song during his Presidency and forever more. The lyrics fit perfectly.
A protest song very specifically about how it’s the poor who get sent to war and how privileged rich assholes don’t pay their taxes.
Sure is!
Hardly a new phenomenon: one of the biggest complaints by soldiers in the Civil War on BOTH sides was the line, "A rich man's war & a poor man's fight." In fact, rich men could hire substitutes to take their place in the Army.
Oh absolutely. Just, ya know, the song being played while soldiers march by Trump is really something.
And, of course, Trump is too stupid to realize that the song is protesting HIM & others like him.
On a related note, the use of substitutes was also common on both sides of the Civil War. This is in sharp contrast to the Roman Republic, where the best (if not only) path to both wealth & respect (to say nothing of a political career) was military service.
Must be where Heinlein got the concept from in Starship Troopers.
That and it was a custom of the Greeks; every man who wasn't a slave was expected to carry a shield & spear for his city, and no able-bodied man who didn't could expect to be taken seriously or achieve any status in society.
Yes, written about people like Don Taco.
Its about the Fortunate Son of a wealthy family who could dodge the draft, whilst the sons of working class families put their lives on the line in Vietnam.
Hmm, sounds familiar
If Mary Trump swallowed the sperm that created the guy who was behind all of this, those Army personnel would have had a pretty nice weekend. Instead, they got dressed in their uniforms, told by their command to do this, and really don't fucking care about him or his fucking birthday. Decisions ...
You can tell the soldiers don't even want to be there.
None are walking in step and the SL are like "whatever idgaf"
Yep, that was what I had noticed right away.
This is about three notches below "easy march."
"Lazy march"
"By the right, by the Jesus, Laissez-Faire March!"
Sounded like taking care of business lol
not very north korea - y in my opinion.
The energy of a Sunday stroll across a soggy flowerpower music festival...
More than a few of them don’t actually look like they want to be there.
This must be intentional and quietly tolerated. Even boy scouts march better than this.
I thought that too, it was very loose.
I thought the same. I could march better as a Girl Guide.
I'm sure you could. 🫶
Right?! I was thinking…my 17-member High School Drill Team had crisper movements, straighter Rank and File, and a much stronger Esprit de Corps!! 😳😬🤯
I'm sure it did! 🤜🤛
🙏🏼✊🏼💖 Seriously, this had to have been quiet protest on the part of the military—IMHO they got their point across to the people. Had they been crisply on point—we would have thought they were in lock-step with the Faux King, right? #NoFauxKingWay
Exactly this.
🙏🏼💖✊🏼
Damn! This looks like it came straight outta Temu's bargain bin.
Yes, the parade is dumb, but as a marine, I'd also like to point out that the army sucks, and that parade march was some of the sloppiest shit I've ever seen. Shitty parade or not, have some self respect.
🙄
It was on purpose
Resistance takes many forms.
As an airman I'd rather they not march perfectly for a tyrant. He wants to have a parade to glorify himself on his birthday so he should get the shittiest parade they're capable of putting on, Trump is too fucking stupid to know the difference so fuck him.
As a Marine, maybe you should be defending your country against a tyrannical fascist coup?
Exactly - have these people never marched together before? Or was their shitty out of sync walking on purpose?
Even consscripts with just one week of service behind them knows how to walk in step with each other when marching. Perhaps the sloppines was the point of it all?
Those soldiers are having a hell of a time marching in step to that music because the rhythm is so unnatural.
"But when the taxman comes to the door Lord, the house looks like a rummage sale" Sounds like it was written about our White House
How utterly embarrassing.
not surprising, the irony is completely lost on MAGA
And look at how lackadaisically they are “marching.”
I've seen fresh Navy ricks march more professionally than this.
They look SO miserable. Morale must be horrendous and I’m thinking they’ve joined the resistance. Thank you, Army!
The US spends nearly as much as the rest of the world combined on the military... how was this so lame? I was expecting F-35s and B-2s flying low over rows of Abramas tanks, with hundreds of thousands of fanatical sycophants cheering at the top of their lungs. You really have the lamest dictator.
The U.S. Army doesn’t operate many fixed-wing aircraft.
If this has him wondering how loyal all branches of the military would be to him, we’re thrilled. This implicit threat may be all we have right now, in the way of checks and balances.
It does make me wonder if the armed forces rat-fucked him
Oh totally. This appears to be some epic malicious compliance.
Look at the Troops faces, no one gives a shit about the sham. compare to the post desert storm parade www.youtube.com/watch?v=9DJK...
Well the cooler planes are Airforce. This was Army, so the coolest stuff they have really is just the tanks. They also boats, but that would look lame as hell on a trailer.
Army has a fuckton of helicopters, having those do a low flyby would probably look decently intimidating, tbf.
They had a few go through. A low flyby would be dangerous for the crowd, and we'd see whatever that is on Donald's head flap around.
The Army doesn't have planes. They did have copters, though.
The Air Force used to be called the Army Air Force. The Army had all the planes at one point in its history.
And then in 1947 the Air Force became a separate service (at the same time the “War Department” became the “Defense Department” and SecNav stopped being a cabinet position) and the 1948 Key West agreement said the Navy and the Air Force got planes and the Army got helicopters.
All spent on fencing and road repair 😅
A lame dictator that has only killed 400k+ of the country's own citizens. Rookie numbers.
A lot of it's overpriced grift. but yeah tragic in a way but fitting
Lamest Dictator! Can’t even get that right. Best post yet.
look man we gotta give Lockheed $700 billion this year or we're going to lose even harder to the next gang of 15-year-old goatherds we try to push off an oil deposit
Fortunate Son... ironic (subversive, even) when you consider that Donald used his privilege to dodge the draft.
That’s what you get when you have a 24 year-old in charge of the logistics.
It was just weird.
Has anyone wondered if someone planted that song in there? I thought, how could his staff be that stupid?, but then I remembered that he hires 'only the best people'. hehe...
It's simple. Trump loves that song. He used it as the "I am taking the stage" music at his rallies in the 2020 campaign. First verse says some people are born to wave the flag, references "Hail to the Chief", and he's never internalized anything more than that. www.latimes.com/entertainmen...
Wow, I did not know that. Thanks!
OY. Trump deserves our absolute disrespect.
I was going to say he's worked hard to earn it, but that's not really true. He's worked incredibly lazily to earn it.
😆
Didn't they play In The Navy?
Why do the troops march as if they couldn't even do the hokey cokey in time? Was it a silent protest?
They are professionals being used as PR by a draft dodger, made to march along a route with a really pathetic turnout on a humid day, now if there had been crowds the size of no kings maybe they would have cheered up a little but this is just fucking embarrassing
First thing that struck me, that is not parade marching. It looks like they are being marched to do some unpleasant detail.
Looks that way. 😅
I would not doubt it. If I’d marched my flight in AFROTC anywhere close to this loose, we’d have been doing PT for the rest of our lives
Fogerty is gonna sue the shit out of rapist Trump
Omg they are so fucking clueless. FORTUNATE SON?!?!
Unreal. I guess no one on his staff read the lyrics or understood the lyrics. But what else can we expect from Cadet Bone Spurs?
Dude and his minions are grossly out of touch...
No clue
@adamcurtisbroll.bsky.social
Strong Stripes vibes
I feel bad for them if they were forced into this.
John Fogarty might not be happy about this most likely unapproved usage.
Great. Thank you!
or he's cackling in glee at the band being so subversive
Looks like Melania gets it. She looks over & sees clueless over there & she claps more intensely. 😂😜 Go Army Strong!!
Wait no Bruuuuuce Born in the USA? 🤣
He’d sue Trump’s rear end off
lmao they're just out for a stroll
OMG.
President Bone Spurs
FORTUNATE SON ? REALLY?
So were just an nation of unpaid extras with no union benefits now... fuck this shit
Holy shit! lol.
Love this. They also did *not* march in cadence. That was a deliberate, visible act of resistance.
The choice of music. There was no cadence!
Well done! If that happens in unit drill instructors see both immediately group is a unit, and they test or despise instructor. This time it's nor test, neither instructor.
They were out of step so bad my entire flight would have been doing the worst PT imaginable for hours
I'm an Army brat. It was the very first thing that struck me. They weren't marching. They were moseying. 😊
That's the word I was looking for! Moseying. Perfect.
It looked like your local 4th of July parade. Sloppy. Unpolished. Nothing like those parades seen out of Eastern Countries.
I think I only see one woman marching. On par for Hegseth. Just like "YMCA" and "Born in the USA" they do not have slightest concept of the song's meaning.
I'm thinking there is at least one smirking Army smart-ass that knows EXACTLY what these songs mean.
Clever subterranean work of a smart DJ.
That was a rehearsal, yes? No swagger, no dress uniforms, and frankly I don't sense any pride (they may just be bored). Not even close to the pomp of the 14th July parade in Paris. And no, our président doesn't salute 😁 But, I am surprised that the US Army is that 'white'.
Could Trump have ordered that?
Do the black lads still have to fight separately, like they did in WWII?
Ever since we went to the all volunteer system, the Army has self-segregated, with Combat Arms units being mostly white and Support units being mostly black.
I would not be surprised when only white soldiers were chosen for the parade. We all know why.
The US came to Paris in 2017. They put up more effort it seems m.youtube.com/watch?v=1eXI...
Jfc. The plonker even salutes there. I could forgive it if he was a proud veteran who had served his country alongside these men and women, but ye gods, when it came time to serve, Napoléon Bonespurs, ran away.
To be fair. I guess they had the chance to either be deployed against US Citizens or March in the dullest military parade in history. Easy choice.
The most lacklustre parade I've ever witnessed. They look like they're coming home from an all-night club.
It isn't Trump will have manipulated the selection of who parades.
Just like he manipulated who was in the stands during his speech.
Spot on !!
Pride is probably on the list of forbidden words
Looking forward to the USN's parade to "In the Navy" 🏳️🌈🏳️🌈🏳️🌈
Thanks for that! 🤣
Maybe it didn't used to be? Or maybe these are more paid extras?
🤣🤣🤣 soundtrack by ted nugent and kid rock! Fucking pathetic, fucking hilarious.
perfect
So, are the soldiers ‘walk protesting’ to a Vietnam protest song? Cos that sure ain’t ‘marching’.
Subversion lives! I mean if they needed a whole album maybe this.
They could have run out of Sousa, or perhaps Francis was directing.
Yeah, that's the amount of enthusiasm you expect from soldiers ordered to spend their day off saluting the draft-dodger who cut their benefits and called them dumb losers.
And didn’t even give them real door or a nice place to sleep.
He called them "suckers and losers".
How many times does John Fogerty have to tell him HANDS OFF MY MUSIC 🎶 And for you young ones... the song is about a man/boy being sent to Vietnam to fight while THE FORTUNATE SONS get to sit out of that little party. "I ain't no senator's son."
Still, the song is poisonous irony to play for Cadet Bonespurs, up in the stands pretending to care about all the “suckers” & “losers” marching for his birthday.
Draft dodger music.
This was a song for the people who had no way to dodge the draft. Young men who cold go to college, did so for the student deferment. Young men who had no student deferment expected to get drafted, and so many of them did. It's been 52 years since the draft was ended, and people forget.
Were you around then? I was. I had friends who fought in Vietnam. None said the U.S. effort was well organized or sensible. You'd fight and take a hill, then later that day give the hill back to the enemy, and a few of your buddies would have died in the process. That war invited protest songs.
I was around, in the sense that I was alive. But I was a wee bit below draft-age. (I was born in 1968.)
Yes I was around then. Knew all the words to the song and what it was about. Had an older brother who was draft age. He got trained at Camp Pendleton but didn’t go to Vietnam.
One of the lucky ones.
We watched the news every night - praying he would not go. Had a friend whose husband went. When the war ended she went to pick him up at the airport and walked right past him - didn’t recognize him - so emaciated. She spent years working on his health.
They likely used a cover for that reason.
Look like they are ready to break into a run. To get outta there.
If for some reason you can't already sing this in your sleep. Fortunate Son, written by John Fogerty in 1969:
Thanks for the lyrics to Fortunate Son. Pretty funny that the bonespur fortunate son didn’t get it
Thanks for posting. People my age (old) know this song & its powerful lyrics. Feel even worse for the military men & women who had to march in Trump’s “perade.” #NoKings
It exactly fits Cadet Bone Spurs life.
My father had bone spurs in his heel. So did Joe DiMaggio. Of course, both of them had bone spurs AFTER serving their country in a time of war. Trump lied about it, like the coward that he is. I never served. I admit that I'm a coward. But I don't think I should be President of the United States.
I didn’t serve either. It should not limit who can run for President. However, I would not run because I am honest about my capacity. I expect that the president should be smarter, have more capacity & know their limits. Eg., DJT can’t read daily reports and doesn’t love the country enough to care.
Biden dodged the draft FIVE times and eventually got a medical exemption for asthma. Which is more treatable than bone spurs if people are keeping record 😂
Who said anything about bone spurs
I'm not in that picture, what are you talking about
Asthma is disqualifying. Any active asthma (even controlled) would bar someone from service. I was a 3 sport athlete (including 2 endurance sports) w/very mild controlled asthma, but had my appt to the Air Force Academy yanked the moment they found out I had it. Doesn't matter that it's "treatable".
And this is what I call an absolute shutdown.
I joined in 1984 and my recruiter Told me to lie, and lied for me, about having asthma. It was an absolute deal breaker for the draft.
Yep, we thought about it. That would’ve been the only way.
Bone spurs are the same. It's not a shutdown. It's proof that the users on Bluesky only focus their anger on one direction to validate their own petty and hateful agenda.
Then why are you here? If we're so hateful, Twitter is over there.
Farming content
I keep telling my husband that our mild asthma kid will be D/Qed immediately because he was diagnosed in a military treatment facility. I'm shocked he even gets mail from the recruiters.
Yeah, if it’s been diagnosed, unless no symptoms for years, they’ll get DQ’d. My dad (1st Lt/silver star/2 purple hearts) tried to get a waiver for me to join still, but no chance. Re: recruiters… they aren’t getting medical reports 😃 just lists of young people.
Oh yeah. We’re just getting the mail and it’s addressed incorrectly (middle, first, last). I’m sure I will have to field a few phone calls later in the year.
That is adorable!
Sorry but asthma in a remote jungle location or a desert location isn’t easily treated. Military STILL discharges asthmatic troops. They can’t be deployed. Yea I know from firsthand experience. I was in a non-deployable position so my asthma didn’t get me medically discharged.
Same for bone spurs.
Not really unless they’re too bad to be corrected by surgery.
Rage bait
So?
Thank you for proving the hypocrisy is intentional.
Biden didn't play into this military fetish nonsense, so hypocrisy isn't even in the equation. Like fuck off lol.
Thanks for the engagement. Follow me on X!
biden dodging or not dodging draft has fuckall to do with Trump. those two things are totally unrelated. there's no hypocrisy. no one is going "screw trump for being a draft dodger! but biden dodging the draft is awesome!" like you seem to believe. only brainwashed tools jump to that whataboutism.
Thirsty?
Damn i wish he was that cool during his presidency
Thanks for the engagement! Follow me on X!
Something something rent-free piss comic
Thank you for your insight ...(reads name ) Marvel White Panther
You're welcome. And I'm so proud of you for reading!
thank you now run back over to xhitter and tell everybody what you saw
They really are making themselves the fuckwit of the thread, aren't they? :-) Never mind, mum will call them up from the basement for their favourite pizza soon :-)
That's terrible. I didn't vote for Biden these elections and will never vote for him again. But I bet you voted for the orange turd. So who is the hypocrite here?
Sadly, yes. But only because the opposition was an installed r3tard with a history of wrongfully prosecuting blacks for drug crimes who can't put together a coherent sentence to save her life.
So you voted for a rapist and probable Epstein pedophile? Weak.
No. Trump never raped anyone. The court proved it. Not one single person has been arrested for Epstein Island except the 2 that created it. So whatever you think you have there is just fantasy. Like the rest of your world.
You are proving to all of us that you’re a submissive guy. You are attracted to authoritarians and like the fact that Trump also assaults women. God knows who else he prefers. He even says he assaults women. Obviously, you spent too much time on Twitter and are now indoctrinated.
Insulting my masculinity won't work. I'm not an insecure person who is easily manipulated like you people are.
You voted for a shady, bankrupt businessman, who cheated on everyone and everything, who operates like a mafioso, can’t take criticism, disparages our military & you’re not insecure? Your media makes you a victim. You want to take advantage like him. Pay no taxes like him, hate like him.
Biden didn't call dodging STDs from socialites his personal Vietnam.
Only took the first 2 chords of that awful cover to be singing the lyrics and laughing at the brutal sabotage.
Lyrics for context youtu.be/40JmEj0_aVM?...
Not being disrespectful to the troops as they didn’t plan this event. However isn’t the normal arrangement for this sort of event dress uniform and formed up marching and accompaniment by a military band?
Yeah, those fatigues were really really shabby. I loved it!
I think it was a Trump request to have them look prepared for combat.
They didn’t look prepared for the PX never mind combat
Agree. This was a show of force not a parade.
This is more of a stroll than a march. Clearly, these soldiers are not thrilled to be doing this.
As the army goes shuffling along...
Very much my thoughts! In fact, the soldiers marching look particularly pissed off - good on ‘em - it definitely looks like a silent protest to me. In fact, what a damp squib of an event! 🥳🍻😄
I know that a good chunk of the parade was battle dress from different eras of the Army’s history (which is why there’s video of Sherman tanks from WW2 squeakin’ along for example) so I assume these soldiers are representing the more-recent past. Though I haven’t seen *any* dress uniforms so, dunno?
You can fucking disrespect troops for God's sakes this bullshit is what got you here! All of the men who fought in WW 1 and 2 have passed, these did fuck all but massacre farmers for oil, they did not nor do the "keep you safe" quite the fucking opposite.
Irony is spinning in its grave.
John Fogerty is still alive
This is an important point since I believe he paid a lot of cash money dollars to buy his songs back. I’m trying to find out more about the music used and how it was licensed.
Managing a catalog of songs is hard work and many people and agreements are used; it’s possible some licensing for instrumental arrangements meant this kind of use couldn’t be prohibited. Money’s involved, so it’s complicated lol. On the other hand Trump is famous for not paying his tab.
As I recall, performance royalties are “mechanicals” — songwriter gets their nickel but isn’t consulted. Had they played the CCR *recording* that would have been a bit more complicated. None of which prevents him, oh, idk, doing a free ad for the GI Rights hotline using the song …
yes, but irony is dead
Alanis Morissette killed it, but that was a different song. Maybe they played that one too?
Funny that todays people are not realising that. Are they not listening to the songtexts anymore?
When my Younger Daughter heard Jimi Hendrix version of “The Star Spangled Banner” being played for W, she looked at me in total shock! I homeschooled her, and made sure she knew the significance of Hendrix’s version.
Booom, bo-boom bom bom boom....
The look more like prisoners than soldiers.
The most junior ordered to waste their precious weekend.
What's the difference?
Technically they are prisoners. To resist would mean …
Maybe they were
Why weren't the soldiers allowed to 'present' their personal fire arms? And these soldiers were selected for being MAGAs.
Because they might be loaded and someone might be an expert shot.
It looks like they are all embarrassed to be there.
Even worse is the Bone Spurs it makes an elephant on parade
Malicious Compliance; Military Boogaloo.
You can’t say anything else but reflect in this absolute perfection of sound and image
Boom 💥 precisely!
So are those soldiers PURPOSELY not marching in step?
It was so sloppy and bad that it had to be on purpose. Resistance always finds a way especially when marching past a dictator.
Certainly looks like it. We marched better in cadets.
We marched better in high school BAND 🙄
The “lamest dictator.” 🤣
Because they couldn't play something from Les Mis?
🤣🤣🤣🤣 holy lack of awareness
🤣
Wait, they played CCR's Fortunate Son? Oh, the irony. An anti-war song about being sent off to war while the rich kids got to stay home.... for a military parade of an entitled jack ass who dodged going to war. Amazing.
Perhaps someone chose the music on purpose as a form of protest knowing that their MAGA overlords were too dumb to spot it?
Bingo!
I mean, as someone else pointed out, not only are the recruits not even bothering with parade march, the NCOs arent bothering to make them. Even the fucking sergeants cant be assed.
I want to believe
❤️👍
OMG! People sure do hate that family!😬
I really really hope this is the case! It would tickle my fancy SOOOO much
Same!👏🤣
Epic burn.
The song being chosen on purpose as a form of protest would certainly match the disinterested soldiers not even trying to march in step.
👍👍👍
That’s what I said. We have an ally in there somewhere. This is an iconic burn.
👍👏
Thank you for that explanation. I really didn’t know. Much better context now. 😁
Did they play “ born in the USA” too?
It is … Trump is unfathomably thick though … does not get irony …
Yes, much like his favorite anthem being a celebration of gay masculinity and cruising.
That’s why they say truth is stranger than fiction. You can’t fabricate this stuff.
If they could read, they might have understood the lyrics.
To be specific, the song is about rich folks who flaunt their "patriotism", yet cheat on their taxes, and weaseled out of the draft, and the poor folks who were forced to fight, and die in their place in Vietnam.
So true
Sounds like a small act of protest to me.
"Remember this, Freedom is a pure idea. It occurs spontaneously and without instruction. Random acts of insurrection are occurring constantly throughout the galaxy. There are whole armies, battalions that have no idea that they’ve already enlisted in the cause."--Nemik's Manifesto
🫡
Not even in step
I have a deep hope they were doing it on purpose...
It’s automatic after boot. Almost harder not to
"Parade"... 😆 I see some military personnel walking along. That's not a parade.
And they don't look too happy about having to be there.🤣
Glad I'm not the only one saw that. If the British Army had done a parade of any form, let alone for the head of the Army (In their case the King, although only as a figurehead with no real power) and walked like that, entire units would be courtmarhalled afterwards.
Contrast this fiasco with the Trooping of the Colour yesterday!
Now "THAT" is a "Parade" 😁
That’s what I thought too It’s odd
Very telling that Drumft doesn't salute "his" troops (as Commander in Chief) nor do "his" troops seem to acknowledge him in the slightest.
They all seem to say: "We have to put up with you, but don't ever assume we're going to like or even love you."
civilians arent supposed to salute the military - Melania was the only one doing it right. hand over heart for people who have never served in the military. i'm old enough to remember when Repukes got all bent out of shape when Clinton saluted the military
Well, to be fair, the US Army is known for its sloppy marching practices.
That made me smile. Being lousy at marching pretty is the point.
My dad was an ex- Royal Marine and he used to enjoy watching the big UK displays like Trooping the Colour on TV specifically to find anyone who was out of step and launch a scathing critique. He would be dumbstruck at this.
Agreed!
That’s what I thought too. Like you could see units were trying to maintain a certain speed but everyone was just walking normally. Plus it looked like none of them wanted to be doing this in the first place.
Yes the formation was so bad - almost like they didn’t want to be there 💁🏽♀️
Walking like they’re a chain gang
Just so we're clear, this was a show put on so conservatives could masterbate over America's military might.
This
is it weird that the marching is completely out of order? like, is that normal for parades of this kind to be so lackadaisical?
It is not normal for the US military to march in the streets. Unless they are in a ceremonial position, solider do not drill marching beyond basic training. They are not show ponies.
Thank you!
📌
I am from a military family. This disrespect makes my blood boil. 🤬
First of all, thank you and your family for their service. 🙏 I am retired military, my son served and was fucked up in Iraq. THIS VIDEO MADE MY HEART SING! DJT is a traitor and must be removed! 🇺🇸✊🇺🇸✊🇺🇸✊🇺🇸✊🇺🇸✊
The marching is out of synch both with the "music" and each other, truly pathetic. The Russians and Chinese, even us Bolivians, getting a big laugh.
Resistance comes in all sorts of forms.
If this was North Korea, they'd be cooked.
I wonder if we will observe a mutiny if Trump decides to drag the Marines into another losing war on the other side of the globe?
I can only think of two potential wars overseas. And of course it's not Ukraine, just because. Trump would either send them to middle east for some unclear mission(s). Or trump send them as China are about to invade Taiwan. And may God be with the soldiers. An impulse trump and alcoholic hegseth 🥲
One thing that Yemen proved with its recent battle with the US Navy, is that the US Navy is indefensible, i.e. cooked.
That has to be on purpose. A big FU to TACO.
@down.blue
No hagas maldades ;-)
⬇️ Sure! Press here to download it!
Could this fiasco be actually a smart protest from the military?
To be very clear, I have the upmost respect for the US Army, its history (obvious for a Frenchman…) and its traditions. I just don’t recognize them here.
Per some of my buddies who have served, yes. Subtle protest.
It's great and doesn't look the least bit subtle to me. To be honest it's a bit of a relief to see this response from the military.
they're on the side of democracy. They didn't sign up to help a wanna be dictator.
It sure is.
I have to agree, the MAGA forgot that there are many first-generation Americans in the military who have had family members deported by Trump. So this was an FU while still following orders.
Looks like.
That’s what I thought !
There's hope, but niaaa... they just don't know or care for the meaning of the song.
At best
Is he oblivious to lyrics? I wonder if he got permission from John Fogerty? 😏
He did not. Fogerty has already sent a cease and desist letter for prior abuses.
His staff used that at a 2020 rally too --they never get permission and just wait for artists to sue them.
No but the Army may have just to troll Felon47 😏
I really, really hope that John Fogerty says something about this.
I doubt he got any permission.
Me too. Now comes the cease and desist.
Not a chance in hell John Fogarty cleared that song
"John, Trump wants to use 'Fortunate Son' in -" "FUCK NO!"
OH geez... a route march?
please say the mushrooms in tonight's dinner were the trippy kind because that parade didn't just look liek it sucked, it looked like it swallowed too!
It's like throwing a birthday party and only your parents show up.
John Fogerty is gonna be pissed
All they needed was “You’re So Vain” and Hendrix’s version of “The Star Spangled Banner” for the full f-this set list.
How demoralizing for those soldiers. Sending respect and gratitude to them and to their families.
What is this shuffle walk? Is that a new thing?
The Bone Spurs march?
Might be malicious compliance from the officers. If the instructions were to, say, "walk/move down the avenue past the presidental stand", the organizers forgot or didn't realize that walking and marching are two different things in the military.
That was exactly my take. They do know how to march. And they do have dress uniforms. Everyone else can draw their own conclusions.
Well that would definitely be interesting. It doesn’t look on clips like they were all doing that so possible.
Yeah, I saw some clips where units did at least base marching, like they would at the base, though not the crisper and more precise parade marching. And some units that were just walking.
This is just speculation, but certainly possible.
I put this up there with MAGA folks playing Born in the USA....not really paying attention to the lyrics
Oh my gosh, FOR REAL???? Do the organizers not hear the lyrics??
Trump apparently likes Fortunate Son. themusicexpress.ca/22953-2/
ANY politician using this song...did not listen to this song.
I was wondering how he felt about this. Not at all surprised.
If and when anyone asks Trump about how the soldiers marched, and what it meant, he’ll probably spew something like “Oh I told them they could do that. I wanted them to be able to relax.” He constantly pulls stuff out of his a$$ like that.
Sue
Sure looks like a desist 😢
From @miri-iron.bsky.social above… Apparently John Fogerty was also one of the artists that the campaign used the songs from in rallies (without permission or royalties)! BTW, F>}^ #LeeGreenwood !
I had no idea Trump was using “Fortunate Son” for his rallies last year! How can he and every supporter be such TONE-DEAF BUFFOONS???? 🧐😑🤬 🇺🇸✊🇺🇸✊🇺🇸✊🇺🇸✊🇺🇸✊
The irony lol
That was 5 years ago. The Orange Rapist and his band if sycophants don't care about no stinking laws!
They march like hegseth walks
Crisp disciplined proud marching
Why are they not walking in lockstep formation? This isn't hard! Even the soldiers are low energy and tired of it.
Their silent protest to trump. 🤭
So glad you noticed this too. I thought it could be deliberate to embarrass him.
That caught my eye, too. They're not really marching, they're plodding along dispiritedly.
It’s hard to march to a song that’s not, well, a march. Also, it does take a bit of practice to keep an entire formation in step and it’s not something most units would practice regularly. And some are clearly trying while others aren’t.
It's weird because the yanks are actually pretty good at both parades and marching formations. When they send people to the Edinburgh Military Tattoo they are pretty freaking impressive. Why didn't they rope them in? Where's all the military marching bands? youtu.be/jIzIKjWibJI?...
They know
I can’t! I can’t! I grew up with my mom, teen in the 60s, playing this song while telling us about friends lost in Vietnam. This is so fucking disrespectful! Between this and not knowing the difference between Jean Valjean and Javert, but “Les Mis is his favorite”, his hypocrisy is astounding!
I especially love the ones not even marching 😂
variety.com/2020/music/n...
"Fortunate Son" HAD to have been deliberate! I'll be the orange slob has NO CLUE!
I doubt Hegseth knows this. I hope he picked it, one step closer to the door!
Brilliant satire
The army band must’ve been really really upset they had to play this gig
"Fortunate Son" by Creedence Clearwater Revival is a protest song against the perceived unfairness of the Vietnam War draft, particularly targeting those who could avoid military service due to wealth or connections. Commander in Chief Bone Spurs thinks it's a catchy sounding tune.
Me (as a dyed in the wool unfortunate son) in 1968 HS waiting for the inevitable call. Every unfortunate son at graduation knew who the fortunates were. Everyone did.
Yes we all knew. Your post brings back the heightened fear of the draft during those years. Two of my brothers served in Vietnam. At a party at Stanford, the fortunate ones joked about the war and its unfortunate participants, all those young men who did their duty despite being scared sh**less.
Probably how and when Trump adopted his suckers and losers assessment.
Congratulations on proving the aphorism about the blind pig and the acorn. It is a catchy tune.
Mans owning something at least
Well..... it's his song though 😂
I wonder, does he really NOT realize that the song is about a direct attack on him and his ilk as can be articulated… or is he trying to imply that he wasn’t REALLY the ‘Fortunate Son’ (that we all know he was and is)? 🧐 🇺🇸✊🇺🇸✊🇺🇸✊🇺🇸✊🇺🇸✊
I think the way that song was co-opted as patriotic rather than protest was one of the big motivations behind John Fogerty’s effort to regain ownership of his music. And to boot, that whole Wrangler Jeans ad campaign was absurd. Fogerty is a Bay Area boy and he’d ’a been wearin’ Levis.
its cuz people watched vietnam war movies and thought it was cool instead of tragic
Yeah, unlike most protest songs it’s a pretty tockin’ tune. 🎸 🥁
Rockin’
A dig at ole Bone Spurs??! 🤣🤣🤣
Soldiers can be very cynical
He thinks being called the Fortunate Son is a compliment
He may think Fuck Trump means everyone wants to have sex with him too.
Omg 😂😂😫
The really sad part is, they deserved to be honored today... Instead they were used as props in a wannabe dictator's birthday parade. And by the look on their faces, most of them already know it...
No one who participated in this deserves any honor.
No one? Really? So, you're an absolutist? I often stay away from absolute terms because they rarely reflect facts and/or reality. Moreover, they tend to generalize a situation and highlight the lack of knowledge of the person using them.
I tend to think that behaving in such a dishonorable way makes someone dishonorable, yes.
I agree. But I don't put them all in the same basket. I think that for some of them, they felt that the Army was their best option. Be it for financial reason, education opportunity, etc. I don't judge before I know their story. And since I seldom do, I don't generalize.
No circumstance excuses signing up to kill unknown people.
The Internet is breeding them
And to say that with the amount of information we have access to we could be in a second Age of Enlightment. Smh
imagine being of enlistment age at any point in the last 12 years and thinking "yes, the military is the good and correct thing to do here."
Your life's choice is not theirs. Forcing one's choices on others is what we dislike the most about the MAGAs. Don't judge. You don't know the circumstances.
OK now do murder.
Who hurt you?
Thankfully so far not the Marines but we'll see how long it is before Trump sends them to my city and they dutifully go.
I mean is this the part where we post the pictures of infant war-dead or would you like a do over on this question
Fuck off TROLL. I’m truly sorry about your mother. She obviously left you to be raised by the Internet.
Not my fault if someone holds a right-wing position and can't even properly articulate it.
you simply don't have to do this, you could address the things being said. you could think freely, as some think is important enough to name their internet persona after it.
the circumstances are those are soldiers of a fascist country. with a choice
They have no one to pay them any attention at home. They live online. This is how they get their rocks off. You block them after they reveal themselves.
certainly easier to assume some freudian origin story than to inquire about the content of the conversation at hand
They were forced to be there
They signed up for "do whatever the hell the president tells me" and most of them voted for the guy.
It’s their job, if they are ordered to participate. Marching in a parade is not an unlawful order.
That was no marching, though… strolling maybe.
They can quit.
You obviously don’t know how the military works!
Not my fault they signed up for a job that penalizes them if they quit.
With all DUE respect Adam, and as a resister and liberal… FUCK YOU! 🖕 🇺🇸✊🇺🇸✊🇺🇸✊🇺🇸✊🇺🇸✊
Guy who signed up to kill on behalf of Republicans says what?
I believe they had a choice, didn't they?
And the fact that they are marching on "Fortunate Son" is adding insult to injuries. tRumps is THE ultimate POS. It infuriates me...
Well, let's hope he keeps pissing them off so they stay on our side.
I don't think so. They were ordered and, as military members, they have to obey. I really don't think it was on a voluntary basis.
Okay. I just remember the memo about no fat soldiers yada, yada & swapping out.
When you tell your boss no to the request to work overtime, you usually don't get your first submitted vacation dates, and a sundry of other micro aggression or worse. So, yes, but, no.
It's not just the tone deafness of the song's lyrics - it's not a fucking MARCH. That's likely why they can't keep in step. Some good ole John Philip Sousa, maybe Stars & Stripes Forever - on FLAG DAY.
I don't want to give them TOO much credit But they absolutely chose music and their plan This is all malicious compliance, it has to be
Could be. I don't know who chose the music, the organizers or the band.
They look as bored and unhappy to be there as Trump looked 🥱
Mind you, when you consider who their draft-dodging so-called commander in chief is, I’m not surprised they look miserable. Vladimir Putin, Xi Jinping and Kim Jong Un must be laughing their asses off.
I know our “former” allies are.
this is either brilliant sabotage from the inside or a spectacular self-own.
I keep thinking: “is he gonna fire Pete tomorrow?”
Spectacular self-own. He's played it at rallies; apparently he thinks it's praising him. He had "my own Vietnam" after all 🤷♂️
I hope John Fogerty sues the pants off Frumpty-Dumpty!
Oh, and who taught those soldiers to “parade march”? They’re all slouched & shuffling!
They didn't spend a lot of drill time for this shitshow. It looks pitiful. We gave sharper parades for graduating OCS classes.
Exactly! China, Russia & N Korea must’ve been snickering.
Oh, you are SO RIGHT!!!
One of those times it’s awful to be right…
Triumph of the Swill
My only solace is that they all look absolutely miserable.
Irony is lost on the ignorant.
@georgetakei.bsky.social must see lol
Somebody clearly did edit it, though, and I'm pretty sure the music was added in post. It's not in the same environment as the announcer, so no, it's not "the actual music being played".
Or maybe it was. Fuck if I know. I was running sound for the 2500 people who came to the rally in small town.
Someone posted a set list and this appears to be on it, and Trump apparently had used it in 2020 campaign appearances (causing Fogerty to put a cease & desist on him) so it seems likely
Yeah, makes sense. I know he likes it, and has no clue as to what it's about. I was questioning the clarity of the music relative to the distant voice of the announcer. If it was onsite playback, I would expect both in all speakers.
It’s the broadcast feed, and it sounds like for the music part they took to the board mix from the band (or the playback source if it was tracked), rather than relying on nat sound. The production values of the whole thing was super rough. I doubt the feed producers got much prep time or resourcing.
Can’t even march properly
Yeah, no shit. I noticed that too. WTF??
They don't drill for dog and pony shows
Hahahahahahaha!!!! Facts!! Ha
Was this deliberate disobedience?
US military marches in boot camp just so the CC can yell at you. After that they're teaching you how to kill other people and try to not get killed yourself.
Then they take seven of ten away to move equipment & supplies around or fix stuff so the other three can keep firing rounds. But you're still supposed to know the kill/don't get killed stuff because the enemy is going to be after your ass for keeping the other 3 out there.
vibe.
Hegseth does not look happy either.
Whiskey Pete needs a snort.
Is he napping!??
Is he sleeping??
Melania looks like she's enjoying how miserable trump looks.
Looks like widdle donnie's having a sad, about to cry!
Even Hegseth looks embarrassed
Unhappy birthday, worst potus ever.
Malania just wanted to get back to New York where was Barron?
Pete looks like he could use a stiff drink or two
Which Melania showed up today?
If it's the real one, she demanded a good payment to attend.
“Cash, Donald, cash mo-knee, in advance.”
It looks like Melanie is smirking. Hehehehe
The one who looks like Tammie Faye Baker!
Dead Tammy Faye or Tammy Fay while she was married to Jim?
Stand-in number 3. Stand-ins 2 & 3 are washing their hair. The original has a date with the pool boy.
And why isn’t he standing and returning their salutes? Isn’t that military etiquette? The whole thing is truly bizarre.
One of my favorite songs. ;)
What are they chances they paid for the rights to the music? I’m going with zero.
I think they are marching in a sloppy and out of step formation. Intentionally?
I noticed that too.
Definitely intentional. The U.S. Army has the ability to march in lock step formation if they really wanted to. Seriously, it’s true.
I was wondering about that, they’re just sort of strolling along looking pissed off.
This is not how they wanted to spend their Saturday.
I was wondering if they commanded them “route step March” but it’s mostly for when marching across bridges and uneven ground. Otherwise they really are marching like crap.
Yeah, that makes sense. But for a formal occasion like a parade I’d have thought lock step would be the way.
They probably would have properly marched in lockstep if they'd been marching in a parade actually honoring the United States, the Army and/or a President they respected.
I saw one soldier doing a 'jump step' like one would do to get back into sync with the troop, but he was making sure to be out of sync.....
This was asked on Reddit and the answer seemed to be basically that the US military focuses on effectiveness and not pretty marching.
When I was in Basic Training, drill and ceremony was one of the first things they taught us Any soldier should be able to keep in step easily. Reddit answer sounds like a lazy excuse.
I have no truck with Royalty or militarism at all, but if you compare the Trump parade with the Trooping of the Colour yesterday it is beyond comparison in terms of how to organise a military parade. 😉 🏴 🇳🇬
Our local borough council’s annual Remembrance Day parades - featuring teenage Cadets, Scouts, Guides and assorted townsfolk with umbrellas - are genuinely superior. m.youtube.com/watch?v=k6qf...
The military's participation in the Calgary Stampede parade, a festival about rodeo and cowboys and mini-donuts, is superior to Trump's parade. g.co/kgs/F6tdVQZ
And by some considerable distance, going by that clip. Three cheers for the stampede 🍩 🤠 🐎
Now I want donuts
100% this. ⬆️
And only £20M too...
Conservatives having any media literacy challenge. (Impossible)
Notice how they are NOT walking in Strict Military Step!... They, too, in their own way, are Protesting!..
Our soldiers seem to be pretty bad at precision marching - which honestly makes me happy. youtu.be/QbC6dLG_dQY?...
Maybe they should have cut the music and marched to jody calls. LOL.
Or Yakety Sax www.youtube.com/watch?v=lAJB...
😂🤣😂 That works!
That's hilarious!! You can watch and do CPR at the same time! www.youtube.com/watch?v=DRmX...
Very well done! Thank you.
That’s the point ! The US army is awesome, and they don’t waste time kicking up their heels for a king. They are boots on the ground to be respected but flagrant misuse of their awesomeness isn’t skipping around to a tune for this administrations show.
Marching to rock music is almost impossible. You need a steady drum beat.
ok that was great 😆👍
Now! *THATS* what I call a military parade
I think they can march tight and well. I think they trolled him.
I will repeat this over and over. Trump is gonna be pissed there was no goose stepping. And we will have a goose stepping EO before his next parade.
June Taylor dancers.
Thank you for that, I enjoyed the whole thing! 😂
Nice work! That was perfect!
Well, evidently the NK army doesn't mind recruiting the wimmens, unlike our current DoD head...
Are they filming Hot Shots 3 or what kind of satire is that?
