I keep thinking that if the USSR had so much cold hard cash during the Cold War, they would have long ago bought off the Republican Party. It is scary to watch how many parrot Russian talking points today, with many clueless that they are doing so. Many others, however, are quite aware of the lies.
But they would have to be educators, not corporate presidents, to do that. Otherwise they would have fought fiercely against the accusations made at Elise Stefanik's Mickey Mouse samokritika hearings in 2024. Instead, they came across as carefuly coached bureaucrats worried about their stock price.

I think the NYT's failure is essentially moral: when crimes and the overthrow democracy are happening in plain sight, everyone -- media outlets included -- has to take a stand on what is morally right. The Times has become a cariacature of itself. People need to stop reading it, period.

one thing to remember about "ICE is going to occupy Democrat strongholds" is that ICE, if it hires to capacity, will employ about 26k people by the end of 2026, which is 1/3 smaller than the NYPD, which is not a large enough police force to occupy New York City itself.

I'm still seeing news stories which suggest the US govt purchased a 10% stake in intel. But that's simply not true. They're pointing to money that was already appropriated as part of the CHIPs bill and other programs. Intel gave Trump 10% purely as a result of threats.
