I know from personal experience that young children who lose a parent tend not to function well as they grow older. My half sister lost her mother when she was 5. She's now 83 and has never recovered.

The recent US terrorist attack that left 2 children dead, 17 victims injured at a Minnesota Catholic school, likely a Russian operation. The attacker frequented Russian social media, wore an FSB patch, and wrote a Cyrillic manifesto.
Russia has widely been reported to have been targeting mentally ill, politically radicalized, and anti-social individuals online to recruit for sabotage operations (arson, hacking, protests), assassinations, and other terrorist activity in Europe, US, Canada, and elsewhere.
