We're the only developed country that clings to this idea of a "right" of every individual to own a gun, and our Supreme Court, by one vote, upheld this fetish by choosing the widespread misreading of the 2nd Amendment. I wish we could just align our gun policy with similar Western nations.

Most of the internet used to be like this. This is actually the default, it took companies enclosing the internet and adding weird, soul-killing incentives to make people behave the way they do now. In a way, there is truly nothing special about Wikipedia except that it survived longer.

We also started having commentators in addition to lectors. Commentators read scripted explanations of what was about to happen. "We now hear readings from Scripture and listen to what God has to say to us." One lady pronounced it "scrip-chore" for some reason. And "We now pray the offertory song."

On the same weekend in I think 1969 (First Sunday of Advent), our parish started a Saturday evening Mass, started using FM wireless microphones that weirded out Father's voice, and started using the new all-English liturgy in the monthly missalettes. I felt like we had been taken to another planet.

Reminds me of WJR Radio in Detroit: "News on the hour; bulletins at once!" Anyway, I've also heard comprehensive leaflets called "missalettes," but I experienced the advent of missalettes in our RC parish circa 1970, and those were literally a subset of a missal for the current season or month.
