In normal times I'd sort of agree. Most people (including politicians) are searching for a better life. They just differ on the how this is achieved. MAGA is different. It's built on hate. So when you say "we all hold precious" you aren't referring to half of American voters.
SimonG π¨π¦π₯ (@simongodly.bsky.social) reply parent
From whom? Trump ? Because they know for certain that Russia has no intentions of doing any deal.
SimonG π¨π¦π₯ (@simongodly.bsky.social) reply parent
He doesn't care what you think, it's aimed at MAGA who believe it all. "My dear doctor, it's all true". "What, even the lies?" "Oh, especially the lies". DS9.
SimonG π¨π¦π₯ (@simongodly.bsky.social) reply parent
Is that true, but.? I thought he had been subjected to numerous lab tests.
SimonG π¨π¦π₯ (@simongodly.bsky.social) reply parent
What they will actually do is : meaningless deals with MAGA. They had four years to put Trump behind bars, and failed. All had to be squeaky legal, absolutely perfect. Plod. Plod. Oh look, Trump is back in power and removing all our people. Didn't see that one coming. Teeth. They need teeth.
SimonG π¨π¦π₯ (@simongodly.bsky.social) reply parent
Went a few years ago. I have an English biography on kindle. He comes across as a moody and difficult person to workwith. Prone to mood swings. But what really intrigued me as I read on was the number of times (especially on US and UK affairs) I was left thinking : he is so on the button.

To be replaced by JD Vance. It isn't all Trump, but. Yes, he's a self centred bully out to enrich himself, but the major problem is the constitution lying in semi tatters, trodden on. The teachers are watching the bully, openly, rob the other kids, and letting him, for fear of the bully's family.
SimonG π¨π¦π₯ (@simongodly.bsky.social) reply parent
Good luck to those Americans seeking to get their money back. It's spent. From a trade point of view, they will find that tariffs placed by other countries, are, legal and might stay. Even if they are removed, for some goods, worse damage has been done by boycotts. That could be permanent.
SimonG π¨π¦π₯ (@simongodly.bsky.social) reply parent

Every time I see something about a legal challenge in the USA it always comes with that wee note "appointed by Xxxx". It seems to be an accepted given that, the law, is not the primary concern of judges. Which is why it is so easy for MAGA to dismiss court rulings.

I thought illegal immigrants had always been deported. Is part of the problem the fact that the media have so taken on the RW spouted idea that all *irregular* immigrants are in fact illegal, that it's all become confused.? Irregular : process. Illegal : deport.
SimonG π¨π¦π₯ (@simongodly.bsky.social) reply parent
Seems reasonable; Brit pubs over here do. I think the idea is to serve as a warning to passers-by that it will be weak, warm beer and only served in English ππ
SimonG π¨π¦π₯ (@simongodly.bsky.social) reply parent
Hard to have an opinion on a trade deal that may last a week or a few months. It won't last years because 'two weeks' Trump can't process, long term, in his tiny brain. They are all being signed under emergency powers, so have no legal standing. Next in, could rip them all up.
SimonG π¨π¦π₯ (@simongodly.bsky.social) reply parent
I disagree. He's not preventing them. They aren't stepping up to stop him. Perhaps he can declare states of emergency but I find it hard to believe that there are no restraining systems whereby others can't say : Bollocks ! Prove it. If not, forget elections.
SimonG π¨π¦π₯ (@simongodly.bsky.social) reply parent
Trump is cheap. He's downright tacky. He visits the palaces of the old world, sees their ornate structures and fine furnishings and thinks he can imitate it. The fundamental problem is education. He spells awesome : BLING

That would require Ireland at the table. He could, I suppose, deport all the protestants as "illegal immigrants". In this Trumpian era that may not even be far fetched. In the end, like Trump/Brexit, people will get *who* they voted for. Not necessarily *what* they voted for.
SimonG π¨π¦π₯ (@simongodly.bsky.social) reply parent
They'd still agree with that leader. Southern Baptists voted for a rapist. NI protestants would say that the Pope knows feck all about Christianity. There is a massive difference between 'faith in a god' and a 'church'. Too many belong to a church without actually having any faith.

This is the miniscule disclaimer at the bottom, writ large. Not even hiding it : "Ah, this policy doesn't cover legitimate leaders". Yes they could hold elections. What then? You have an American president who says he was cheated. BIDEN LOST, I WON. A Russian one that kills his opponents.

SimonG π¨π¦π₯ (@simongodly.bsky.social) reply parent
Think it's about time he dropped the USA mention. The USA's only part in this is to obstruct anything that approaches Russia losing. Peace, but only if Putin gets all he wants. When the WH says it's providing UA with weapons they mean : selling weapons that will go to UA.
SimonG π¨π¦π₯ (@simongodly.bsky.social) reply parent
All very well and good, but I rather think that most of them are enjoying the power. Push when only come to shove when they are faced with citizens with whom they can identify. Thus the labelling of protesters as illegals, druggies, and communists, out to destroy society. "Not like patriotic me".
