They'd met up with this badass Coastie (my BMC) that they'd worked with and he suckered them in to drinking on duty; and then getting really drunk and calling in SIQ for the actual operation they were training for. They didn't even cancel the drill. They just said, "oogie-boogie, we're coming!"
Our BMC had gotten a bunch of those fools so blindingly drunk at the Hooters in Aloha Towers that when the CO mustered us at 3PM and was pulling his hair out, about how we'd ever pass TSTA, the BMC just said, "Skip, I got this. Don't worry." And the SEALs never ever showed up.
We commenced the drill at like 10 or 11PM and everyone was hanging off of their searchlights for the "initial assault-phase." "Oh, these 'badasses' are going to sneak onboard and slash our throats? OK." Zero effort to repel. And... they never showed up.
The BMC, who was a TACLET guy and had worked with them extensively, orchestrated the whole thing (and gave all of us Deckies cover). The entire-Deck department was pissed to the gills (not me, though... I was 18 π€) when we pulled out and made our way to the anchorage at Pearl Harbor.
...at the Hooters. Where we were docked. Liberty expired at 3PM so all of us were... we'll call it , "day drinking." Not me, of course, because I was 18.

Soldering is a lot like welding (but different). YouTubers are like, "you need a temperature-regulated iron!" but I could do a professional-quality job with a iron that was adapted to work with our 24V DC aircraft-battery and no-temperature controls. You've just got git gud.
We had a bunch of copper and aluminum ones of these in the shop for doing homers. You just get the right diameter, round file and you can cut a channel pretty quick. Or do a v-shaped channel if that's more your liking. It doesn't take much contact-surface to transfer the heat away.
You don't even *really* need the clamp-on heat-sinks, you could just get a old computer heat-sink and the set tubes on top of it. Maybe rout a little channel do the middle for it sit in if you're feeling fancy.
Dude, buy some clamp-on copper heat-sinks and throw that flux core in the garbage (or just use it for plumbing). Uncored-solder with rosin-flux won't splatter like that if you tin the iron before hand.
