The media obsession with identifying which president appointed a judge is really shameful and needs to stop. The 6 fascists on the supreme court have a clear agenda unrelated to the actual law or the concept of justice. That is NOT true of most judges, especially district court judges. Just stop it.
treeesq.bsky.social (@treeesq.bsky.social) reply parent
We need members of Congress leading them, instead of saying this is "all a distraction." Rep. Escobar may not be doing that, but far too many of her Dem colleague are.
treeesq.bsky.social (@treeesq.bsky.social) reply parent
Somebody needs to explain to these cops that a president cannot make criminal laws using an executive order and that by arresting someone for violating such non-laws, those cops are very clearly violating that man's civil rights. Qualified immunity cannot and does not protect these cops.

It's hard to believe Welker let him get away with that ridiculous, ahistorical assertion. She must know that both theaters of war during WWII ended with the unconditional surrender of the Axis powers. There was no negotiation. And yet she just let him say it without pushback. Pathetic journalism.
treeesq.bsky.social (@treeesq.bsky.social) reply parent
All the corp Dem defenders on here insist its OK for the elected corp Dems to do nothing because if they did something Trump might target, arrest or harass them. They say its the unelected folks (except for them of course) who need to put themselves at risk by protesting. Makes zero sense to me.
treeesq.bsky.social (@treeesq.bsky.social) reply parent
Disgusting that the Times quotes unnamed sources so they can lie about the search being one for classified documents instead of pure political harassment. The Times nows they are lying but protects their identity anyway. Maybe a new low for this right-wing rag sheet.
treeesq.bsky.social (@treeesq.bsky.social) reply parent
Still pretending these 5 are rational actors and will uphold anything the court of claims does. Some of us know better and are willing to acknowledge their bad faith. Justice Jackson is right, they are in the bag for Trump. Their decisions, viewed collectively, prove that beyond any rational doubt.
treeesq.bsky.social (@treeesq.bsky.social) reply parent
The MAGA folks Texas don't believe the Dems in Cali will actually do this, and frankly I'm a bit skeptical myself. The polling, showing a significant number of Dems opposing it , is very troubling. Far too many Dems apparently think Dems can still win by playing nice.

Its remarkable how this Reuters story goes out of its way to NOT call this socialism, even though that is 100% what it is, ie. government ownership of businesses/means of production. Sanders self-identifies as a socialist, but the article says he a leftist rather than a socialist.
treeesq.bsky.social (@treeesq.bsky.social) reply parent
Sanders very openly identifies as a socialist. Trump does not, but its Trump's socialist proposal.
treeesq.bsky.social (@treeesq.bsky.social) reply parent

I'm glad the folks who signed the Declaration of Independence didn't feel like you corp ruling class folks, and yes they were mostly elected officials, or certainly as close to that as we had in 1776. They put their lives on the line. You make protecting incumbent Dems the priority, which is FUBAR.

Time for "joint resolution" is ling past. Raskin and his Dem buddies need to be out in the DC streets, like yesterday. WTF don't they see this?
treeesq.bsky.social (@treeesq.bsky.social) reply parent
Why pretend that Trump behaves rationally-he clearly does not-and that there is any chance he might do what you suggest-the chance is absolutely zero. It's quite apparent from all Trump's behavior that Putin has some kind of massive leverage over Trump. Why not focus on what that might be?
treeesq.bsky.social (@treeesq.bsky.social) reply parent
That has been true for awhile. Schumer and Jeffries need to be forced to resign as Dem leaders.

www.nytimes.com/2025/08/01/u... What's really remarkable about this article is that it completely fails to note that all three Ninth Circuit judges on the panel were appointed by Trump, but it does take a swipe at the Ninth Circuit as a whole calling it "famously liberal." Objective reporting?

I ask again, why are Senate Dems allowing senate to function and making "deals" with these anti-democratic fascists. Either the Senate dems believe their own rhetoric-Trump is an autocrat and direct threat to democracy-or they don't. They are now behaving as if they don't believe their own rhetoric!

treeesq.bsky.social (@treeesq.bsky.social) reply parent
Why is the Senate still functioning? As has been true fro many decades, that can only happen with the active cooperation of the minority party. There are typically multiple requests for "unanimous consent" every day. A single Dem senator could object to every one. Why are none of them doing that?
treeesq.bsky.social (@treeesq.bsky.social) reply parent
The idea that the MAGA GOP would adhere to some "understanding" with Durbin is so naive and contrary to the very nature of the MAGA GOP, that it's hard for me to understand why anyone would seriously believe they would do that.

I'm also pretty familiar with how difficult it is to overturn an arbitration award. Your average person can't do it. treeesq.bsky.social (@treeesq.bsky.social) reply parent

But they also don't believe the Dems will do anything to them if the Dems were to win again and they believe the Dems won't try to do the same things. History shows they are right on both counts, and Dems like Jeffries and Schumer continue to send the message that they continue to be right.

Typically in the US legal system, each side pays for their own lawyers, unless a claim is frivolous, legally or factually, or brought for an improper purpose. There might be counter claims where the actual damages are the legal fees incurred, but I don't know enough about the facts to speculate.

The Senate is GOP controlled, but when the GOP had a similar minority and McConnell as their leader they managed to slow things down a lot more than the Dems are doing. Why are the Dems cooperating at all? Tuberville showed them how to stop most business, why are they not following his lead?
treeesq.bsky.social (@treeesq.bsky.social) reply parent
It's a yes or no question. Period, full stop. This is not a situation where some truly awful thing has unexpectedly come out regarding Mamdani's past that was not fully discussed during the Primary campaign. Jeffries is giving credence to what amount to really unfair campaign smears. Shame on him.
treeesq.bsky.social (@treeesq.bsky.social) reply parent
No its not complicated. There was a Dem Party primary. Some Dems and lots of rich folks supported a sexual predator. He lost. Mamdani won. Any person claiming to be a leader of the party needs to openly and unambiguously support the clear winner of the primary.
treeesq.bsky.social (@treeesq.bsky.social) reply parent
Sorry no, this is 100% unacceptable. Jeffries really has to go as a Dem leader. Just pathetic and outrages. Mamdani won the Dem Primary, that should be the end of the story in terms of Jeffries support. For him not to do that means he had forfeited his right be be considered a leader the Dem Party.

Jeffries knows he doesn't have the power to make New York state do this. In fact New York's explicit refusal to do it after the 2020 census and the NY Dems abysmal 2024 campaign effort cost Dems the House. Jeffries himself bears a not insignificant amount of the blame for this.

If this is supposed to be an argument that the 1930 tariffs did not make the Depression worse, its pretty silly. Try to argue the actual relevant facts. Trump himself admitted the tariffs didn't make things better...for 25 years, but Trump himself is too dumb to realize that was what he admitted.
