But most of the time, if one has no experience with kids, one should think real hard about if their unsolicited advice is 1) applicable 2) true 3) helpful And can be communicated without causing more harm than good
That said, it really depends on the parent, the advice, and how it's given. For example, if a parent is being overtly narcissistic towards their child in public, a stranger butting in to point this out will do way more to improve the kid's mental health even if they're rude about how they say so.
This thread was about people who work with kids so I interpreted this as a debate about what kinds of experience "count". I fully reject the idea that the deep emotional connection a parent has for their kid automatically comes with wisdom about how best to raise a child.
Parents and non-parents both need to be MUCH more tactful about how they offer or receive advice about parenting, especially because the emotional connection from a parent to their child is so strong.
Working with kids that aren't your own is valuable experience. Advice from people who aren't attached to, and therefore biased about, your kids has the potential to be a useful outside perspective. Many parents can be reflexively defensive about their kids in a way that does more harm than good.
Remember, the rules are all made up. Laws are only as strict as the people who use them to hold people accountable. We need to publicly, loudly, and unceasingly point out every way accountability is failing now if we want any hope of rebuilding our government with accountability built in properly
