If you enjoyed my post and came here looking for more, I'm sorry to say it was probably a fluke. But I'm flattered anyway! If you didn't enjoy my post, my bio won't fix it. Sorry again :( Pronouns any/any just don't switch them mid-convo it confuses me

As mentioned by others in this thread, WhatsApp is such a huge privacy risk at this point that it's a no-brainer to switch to Signal. It's exactly what WhatsApp used to be, but with verifiably private end-to-end encryption.

Whatsapp is only a Meta property because it was first to the game, was effective and successful, and was purchased 5 years later once it was clear that it had market Dominance. All Meta had to do is keep the UX good enough to stop everyone from leaving while they siphon off the user data for profit

Woah, yeah you're right. I guess when checking other sources to see what costco actually said, many of them used the word "Won't", rather than "doesn't plan to" in most of their verbiage and I didn't catch that that wasn't part of the Costco statement. Thanks for pointing this out. Even Reuters...
Wilzax (@wilzax.website) reply parent
Well, they succumbed to the pressure to make a statement that they won't carry the drug. which while disappointing, isn't newsworthy
Wilzax (@wilzax.website) reply parent
It's technically true but it's only problematic because it's being presented as news rather than just, something that has always been the case Access to Mifepristone isn't limited by which pharmacies are carrying it, it's limited by laws restricting doctors from prescribing it

Wilzax (@wilzax.website) reply parent
Kayaks can be used by people at any stage of life, do no require a prescription, do not require a pregnancy, and do not require you to want to terminate that pregnancy. I wish more pharmacies carried it, but I'm not going to fault a business that didn't carry it in 2005 for not carrying it in 2025.

But most of the time, if one has no experience with kids, one should think real hard about if their unsolicited advice is 1) applicable 2) true 3) helpful And can be communicated without causing more harm than good
Wilzax (@wilzax.website) reply parent
That said, it really depends on the parent, the advice, and how it's given. For example, if a parent is being overtly narcissistic towards their child in public, a stranger butting in to point this out will do way more to improve the kid's mental health even if they're rude about how they say so.
Wilzax (@wilzax.website) reply parent
This thread was about people who work with kids so I interpreted this as a debate about what kinds of experience "count". I fully reject the idea that the deep emotional connection a parent has for their kid automatically comes with wisdom about how best to raise a child.
Wilzax (@wilzax.website) reply parent
Parents and non-parents both need to be MUCH more tactful about how they offer or receive advice about parenting, especially because the emotional connection from a parent to their child is so strong.
Wilzax (@wilzax.website) reply parent
Working with kids that aren't your own is valuable experience. Advice from people who aren't attached to, and therefore biased about, your kids has the potential to be a useful outside perspective. Many parents can be reflexively defensive about their kids in a way that does more harm than good.

If the air temp is lower than 35°C, you can stave off heat stroke with enough shade, hydration, fans, etc. But past this critical temperature, if humidity is high enough to outpace your sweating, you WILL eventually run into fever and heat stroke.
Wilzax (@wilzax.website) reply parent
Most importantly, the thing an AC does that other forms of cooling cannot do, is lower the humidity indoors relative to the outside humidity. Once you get up to ~35°C, if the humidity is too high, it becomes impossible to cool yourself down by sweating, even with the assistance of fans.
Wilzax (@wilzax.website) reply parent
Your organs are the CPU. Your skin is the heatsink. The air touching the heatsink takes heat away from the heatsink and heats up the air. Fan-blown air flows in to replace the air that's touching the heatsink. If the air blown by the fan is cooler than the heatsink, the heatsink cools down.
