Your article says there's a geography professor's hypothesis that people born in England tipped the balance. He didn't say the only people voting for Brexit in Wales were English born, so how is it 100% an English phenomenon? Also, how does his theory answer Reform's current polling in Wales?

Your partner could apply for citizenship in the UK if they have settled status. I know the cost is high, but it seemingly solves the problem.

Yes I know. Where did I say otherwise? As for work, I still attend meetings and oversee some work done by our local offices across the EU, so it's not black and white. That is still permitted (and perhaps more common post-covid, where less on the ground presence is needed)

The closure was a nightmare for them indeed. Was all over the news here. Of course there has been less trade, but it's not a "ruined ghost town". I've been through the town many times, looks much as it ever did. Gyles spends a lot of time inventing stuff on here. Quite odd.

Where does that article say any of those countries have advised their citizens not to travel to the US? Here's Canada's travel advisory for the US. They've 'green rated' it for travel, saying it's safe. By contrast, Canada cautions against travel to Italy and France ('yellow rated').

We can only guess what's in the 2019 govt polling (and I see the order you cite was successfully appealed by the govt). What we do know is there is plenty of current polling to look at. The most recent poll cited in The National, has independence at 52%.

Not to be pedantic but your post only makes sense if England and NI were to remain 'the UK', following Welsh and Scottish independence. In any event you may be correct that the most likely way in is as separate countries, in which case safe to say it's probably never going to happen.

Would you say the same if there was a campaign to display EU flags everywhere? The author of that article says he doesn't mind seeing Palestine or Pride flags for example, he just objects to the England flag everywhere. Either you're against all flags, or none IMO.

Spiderweb was a success, but did it lead to an end to the war? No. You can focus on individual victories, but in the context of the conflict as a whole, not much has changed. The stalemate continues. Ukraine cannot win or reliably enter peace without US assistance.

Your take from that article is that they've been "a bit slow"? The EU has handed Ukraine's future to the US. Even now, there is no cohesive EU strategy towards Ukraine, but individual EU countries offer varying degrees of support.

I'm Welsh and the UK has supported Ukraine militarily before and after the invasion. But the lack of any cohesive EU strategy for years, and a stupid energy policy that even Trump used to warn Germany and others about, has left Ukraine's defence reliant on the US. That is a failure.

The US has been increasingly unreliable. The point is the EU had years to get to a point where Ukraine wasn't dependent on American support, and failed. Even Zelensky is quoted here as saying EU guarantees of security without the US are worthless.

Not just medical insurance. It took nearly 4 months of chasing to get a car hire policy to pay out after I damaged the vehicle. In that time I had a £2k hole on my credit card.

With all their EU advantages, you'd assume France, Germany and Italy would have grown their economies more than the UK's in 2024. France had the same growth. Italy and Germany had worse.

That's true but given what's apparently been happening, you'd think governments would caution their citizens against going there. Canada for example, cautions against travel to Italy and France, but not the US.

If it really was dangerous then Canada and EU countries would advise their citizens not to travel to the US. None have.

I know many people are choosing to stay away. Just pointing out that the official advice is still that it's safe. The PM and others asking people to vacation at home may not be based on safety, so much as promoting domestic tourism.
