I have definitely caught myself thinking Vance has to be better before remembering what he's actually like. I also hold on to the fact that he doesn't seem to command the blind loyalty Trump does.

Me: Spencer, you're a good boy. Well, actually you're not. Good boys don't stand on the table and eat the butter. Spence: But I'm still cute! Me: Yep, still cute and lovable. Spence: Then who needs to be a good boy? Me: Well, I'd really appreciate it if you'd try to be a good boy. Spence: We'll see

I feel so much better about my terrible parallel parking skills now. I'm nowhere near that bad.

Oh no! Well, hopefully you'll get a milder and shorter case then.

I also went 5.5 years covid free and am just now recovered from getting it for the first time. I was doing so well but I think 10 months is just too long to go without a booster.
Celine (@celiniezucchini.bsky.social) reply parent
No, just like I don't really think that I'll win the Powerball tonight. It's just fun to dream.
Celine (@celiniezucchini.bsky.social) reply parent
I'm so annoyed by this. I currently have covid for the first time and I'm sure that the fact that it's been 10 months since my last booster contributed to my getting it. Anyone should be able to get them and I think they should be every 6 months.
Celine (@celiniezucchini.bsky.social) reply parent
The guy who posted it is a librarian who works in the movie section of my library. It was definitely intentional.

I am definitely not a fan, but I am glad for his trying to counteract the TX gerrymandering. I'm glad he has good coms people to attack MAGA. I definitely do not want him as a presidential candidate. We need to go with people who are willing to stand up for trans rights not throw them under the bus

I think I must have gotten in from a family member in the household that does a lot in public or my brother & sis-in-law when I picked them up at the airport. They did mask on the plane and at their event, but not sure if they masked while they were touring. They have had some light cold symptoms.
Celine (@celiniezucchini.bsky.social) reply parent
and I got my last booster in I think October, maybe November so I'm sure that's worn off. Of course, who knows if I'll even be able to get a vaccine this year with the new recommendations. We also need to start masking again. I know I've been a little lax on that when I do go out.
Celine (@celiniezucchini.bsky.social)
Well, I finally got covid. Not happy. I don't even go anywhere & I do grocery pickup so less likely to get it there. My teeth hurt. My throat hurts like crazy. My doctor prescribed paxlovid but said don't pick it up if it's too expensive. It's over $1,200 so not getting that.We need 6 month boosters

I am one the few that just found the first one to be just okay. Second one was amazing. Third was enjoyable.

Not long before I left the bad site, I saw a thread from someone refusing to give their baby the vitamin K shot because god wouldn't let a baby be born without everything they need. She was mad at the doctor's response and the fact that the drs put that she refused the shot in the baby's chart.

I thought this was a universally loved movie! I guess I need to rewatch. Although I do tend to forgive a lot of real-life dealbreakers in romcoms.

I do think some people are more naturally inclined to art but if they don’t work on it they’ll lose that or never improve. My brother had a natural talent that he developed by years of classes and practice. He gets named when people attribute it to just inherit talent because he worked hard.

You can also just hire an actual artist.

Book 39- The Moviegoer by Walker Percy. I really should have kept this thread up while I was reading these books. Then maybe I'd remember something about this book to comment on it. Overall I remember it as a little meh.

Book 38- The House of Dies Drear by Virginia Hamilton. Good YA novel
Celine (@celiniezucchini.bsky.social) reply parent
Book 37- House of Leaves by Mark Z. Danielewski. I decided to read this after seeing it recommended on this site many times. I'd never heard of it before. Not really a fan. It was interesting but not scary as it was billed. I'm not sure I really understood it past the surface level.

Book 36- On Tyranny: Twenty Lessons from the Twentieth Century by Timothy Snyder. A must-read for everyone.

Book 33- Vera Wong's Guide to Snooping [On a Dead Man] by Jesse Q. Sutanto- Another fun, cozy mystery by Sutanto.
Celine (@celiniezucchini.bsky.social) reply parent
Book 32 cont- I enjoyed the stories the author told about the disability awareness courses she taught and student reactions most. This book is so timely right now since so much disability funding and disability rights are in danger. I think this would be a great book to be taught in schools. 2/2
Celine (@celiniezucchini.bsky.social) reply parent
Book 32- Sitting Pretty by Rebekah Taussig. Ableism and disability rights have long been an interest for me so I didn't find much eye-opening for myself, but it's definitely a book I think everyone should read to understand what daily life for a disabled person can be like. 1/2

Books 29, 30, 31- Her Unexpected Roommate, Pregnant by the Playboy, and Bidding for the Bachelor all by Jackie Lau. Lau is one of my favorite romance authors and none of these disappointed. Highly recommend checking this author out if you haven't yet.

My favorite Chinese place has a level between mild and medium that they call slightly spicy. Pretty sure it's code for white people medium. They also always double check if someone says spicy that they understand Asian spicy isn't the same as American spicy to make sure they're ok with it.

I would like one too. Someone else mentioned it was someone who was using open enrollment to go to a different district. There was a case about 5 years ago in my town where a woman was in a car with someone else and her abusive ex was following them. Not sure if they were speeding but they may have been.It ended up with her being shot and killed in the car. Not saying that's a common thing or a good excuse for speeding

On the way back he insisted on cutting down the street in front of our house & going in the front instead of going on the sidewalk behind our house & going in the back like usual. Yeah, that was the thing is my parents would worry about me if I was too late. If it had been the time of cell phones they probably would have just called me and made sure I was okay. I don't think I ever actually came home more than 10-15 mins late without calling so I never got in trouble.

When I started my current job everyone talked about how great the PTO was. It was about the same or a little less as I had when I worked for the post office but no sick leave. Your PTO is your vacation and sick leave. Sadly, it probably actually still is a good amount of PTO compared to many places.
Celine (@celiniezucchini.bsky.social) reply parent
I never had a curfew per se. I had to tell my parents when I'd be home by. Then, if I wasn't home by that time and hadn't called with a good reason, I'd get in trouble. Now I'm sure if I said I'd be home at 3 AM, they'd probably veto it and ask me to pick a more reasonable time.

I've seen several people post the same warnings from different libraries in a FB Libby recommendation group. It will definitely depend on the library. Some may be able to absorb the cost or cut back on lesser used things to make up the budget loss, but the poorest areas won't be able to.
Celine (@celiniezucchini.bsky.social) reply parent
Yeah, it's going to differ by library. If it's well funded by local or state funds then they may be able to make up the lack of federal funds or divert from some things to that. It will hit the rural and least funded libraries the most.
