I do sympathize with this but my thing with parents is they should be more worried that their kid is distracted all day, cheating, or choosing to scroll instead of socialize. The damage this is doing to your kid is very documented and real, and it's happening every day unlike a freak shooting.

You're right but it does trigger the same thing in my brain when I see people being weird online about celebs. Phones have given parents access to so their kid and everything about them so quickly, it's easy to forget how much more private a kid's life was 25 years ago.

When I have friends over, we just boot up my Jellyfin and watch whatever we want. No arguing over who has what subscription to which service. Streaming not only costs more, but it is so inconvenient that it is actively damaging to the medium's ability to connect people.
If you have the technical abilities, and trust me it does not take much, you should just pirate and set up a media server like Jellyfin. I just can't take people complaining about this stuff seriously anymore when all the free TV and movies you could ask for are right there.
