Y'know, just once I'd like to live in a timeline where banking is a boring utility that doesn't vacuum wealth out of everyone and everything and the economy revolves around meeting human needs in general instead of the desires of those with money to spend

Sure, this one data point is anecdotal but you'll never convince me otherwise. We went the whole pandemic without catching it- that's thousands of data points all strung together to show that small things done consistently will improve your odds
I live in a blue state, my family avoided catching COVID during the whole time measures were in place. It took 1 week of "okay, no need for masking in schools anymore" for all of us to catch it. One. Week. It's as if basic risk-mitigation measures like wearing masks work, but only when you do them
This is the simplest test by which to understand when talking points are made in bad faith.
With these people the notion that democracy makes them the stewards of those offices (along with oaths to defend the system by which they came to power) is completely betrayed. These people don't have the authority to pull the ladder up behind themselves; they swore oaths not to but here we are.
When your measure of what's appealing to normal people includes election results that elites spent money to prevent progressives from winning, I'm sure that has a way of coloring what you understand normal people to favor- Maybe if Dems spent less money defeating the Left the Left would win more

One unexpected thing to come out of unmasking, for me at least, is the recognition that I've made major decisions about my life (for example, my career) while masked-- and it turns out that doing what I do for a living isn't really all that fulfilling to me, authentically.
Oh, I agree 100% that gerrymandering should be banned but as the court currently stands it won't be banned so long as it is advantageous for red states to do it while blue states don't. My thought for now is blue states should hold their noses and gerrymander so much the court is forced to ban it
