I know the GOP Congress will roll over and play dead, but there should be checks and balances, not to mention lawsuits.

Trump is unilaterally moving a major base because he doesn't like their voting policies. Are we going to see a consolidation of federal agencies (and jobs) in red states simply because of the president's whims? Is this really supposed to endear him to Colorado voters?

Civilization shouldn't be measured by birth rates. If we didn't have RFK Jr. trying to shut down vaccinations, we have a higher child survival rate. You can have high birth rate and high child mortality rates. Civilization depends on the population of civilized people.

Don't we have higher population numbers than 100 years ago? If so, how is civilization threatened by low birth rates?

I don't have scientific data, but I tend to believe that if it were cheaper + easier for people to raise children, there would be a higher birth rate. Lower child mortality, I would think, decreases the need to have a high birth rate. Lower maternal mortality would also increase rates+thriving.

I'm just curious... what millions of dollars in fees does Fox or NewsMax pay to the government? Whatever they pay and in whatever form, are those comparable to ABC and NBC?

Heard about this from the Borowitz Report, although it's not satire. www.huffpost.com/entry/nancy-... I'm hoping it's a canary in the GOP "coal mine"

I hope there's some way Rhode Island and Connecticut can sue the Trump Admin for project completion. The more he cuts down on renewables, the more he'll use the lack of energy sources to justify drilling on public land to satisfy the high energy needs of AI and crypto.

The problem is the payoffs for kids and neighborhoods with better stress management probably don't become clear for a few years. I could go on and on, but this is more than anyone wanted or will even read.

Meditation is taught in schools, but I often wonder if it would improve family life if parents took some training even on deescalation. (Ok, not just parents, everyone) Although I'd want a pilot project.

I'd like to see more people have access to classes and places to *practice*, emotional management. People living with lower incomes already have a much higher stress level than those with higher incomes. It affects the quality of decision making and relationships.

It's partly why I support things like subsidized access to the weight loss drugs. The cost of the drugs is probably less than medical costs for a stroke, heart attack, or nursing home care driven by such problems. I know, it's not the sparkly, game-changing idea Mark is looking forward.

Conservative commenters made fun of liberals liking programs that gave money. I'm liberal. I liked the program because it worked and overall, the costs of the gift cards were less than the overall cost of incarceration and got people more on the path where they could stay clean enough to get a job

There are people who will hate this, but maybe some financial incentives would help... NPR wrote about a study on meth addicts who were given gift cards at regular intervals for clean drug tests. It worked at helping people stop.

There's been a lot of research on will power, habit and change... so the question is how to get more of that into practice: how to get people to transition from thought to action. Maybe it's a mix of apps, local clubs and social outreach, etc.

Just encouraging and facilitating more Americans to regular exercise could be a big plus. Cost may be an issue * gym memberships, equipment Walking itself is great, BUT * neighborhood may not be safe enough to walk * hard to do alone? -> lack of support system (community? friends? accountability?)

I admit, I love solutions like that (much more effective than immediately expected) With health, we all know Americans don't exercise enough. Regular exercise would do a lot to bring down health care costs (reduce diabetes, prevent some cancers, heart attack, improve quality of life).

But she doesn't know that.. I liked the talk so much, I did a few projections on a spreadsheet and yes, she doesn't need to constantly deny herself the food, one time could do it. But it won't look like that at first. All this to say, small changes can make a huge difference, compounded over time

There's a TED Talk by Sendhil Mullainathan, where he talks about an Indian businesswoman caught in a cycle of poverty because she's just treading water with debt. If she can forgo a very tiny amount of food and spends that money on her loan, she can pay off that loan very quickly...

And as some people point out, things are intertwined. Getting people into shelter and off the streets not only reduces homelessness, but it also reduces the costs of emergency care. Feeding people basically nutritional diets reduces the costs by preventing more serious conditions, if not death.

So I wouldn't say everything hasn't been tried... there probably are things on a smaller scale that are works in progress that can be amplified. In some ways, the scale of federal programs makes it harder to roll out solutions, because things probably do need more iterations, before scaling.

So basically, Republicans are putting words in Democrats' mouths... The question is what works in stopping the spread of misinformation: * suing for defamation? * ads? * influencers? * better reporting? * social media? If we don't know, what are we dong to find out? (I don't expect an answer.. yet

Honestly, this may be one of the most important media graphs I've ever seen. The claim: Democrats keep using annoying words. The data: Republicans CLAIMS Democrats use them, which then becomes the narratives. Then centrists attack DEMS for things GOPer CLAIM they say, not GOP for making stuff up.

Yes. It would be great if there was shot of Bondi saying she has the list on her desk right next to Ghislaine Maxwell saying there is *no* list. Would this make MAGA more inclined to believe Maxwell or more inclined to believe there is a Deep State cover-up?

Yes. Sanders may agree with Trump in principle, but Trump's implementation will, I *suspect*, pave the path to be exponentially more corrupt. We already know the Trump Admin will push the limits of any law.

I've heard more than one analyst credit Tesla's success to Musk's "world class marketing" skills. And you see Musk's and Trump's branding work in action. Even if we don't buy into it, they know how to work their target audience. Agreed: Democrats need to work more in that area.
