I would have thought that people side loading apps would know what they're doing, and so would know how to avoid malware... I've honestly only sideloaded a couple of times in all the years I've been using an Android device. All you have to do is double-check the source of the apk and scan the file.

Getting off Meta apps is very doable. Is it an inconvenience? Yeah. It's really not that difficult though. There are plenty of alternatives that are perfectly usable for the same purposes as Meta platforms which aren't owned by companies that have openly aligned themselves with the Trump admin.
I use gmail and google maps and that's it because obviously changing email address is a *massive* hassle and there is really no decent alternative for maps that isn't owned by big tech. Have you gone to these lengths to minimise the amount of money tech companies make from you?
I've disabled google Gemini, and I'm in the process of replacing my google smart home devices that I bought years ago which is obviously a significant expense.
No google pay, no chrome, restricted google advertising settings for YouTube and privacy settings set as high as possible (no personalised ads, less money for google). I also have subscriptions to services that my favourite youtubers release videos on so I can watch on there instead of YouTube.

It will take people going first. I deleted my META accounts the day Trump became president. Make a post letting people know you're deleting and why, get all the contact details for people you want to stay in touch with, and then delete. It's the only thing that will send a message to tech companies.
Sorry to say it, but these are the kinds of excuses that keep META afloat. There really is no good excuse for decent people to keep their accounts. The hard truth is that if you're on META platforms, they're making money from you, and you are subsequently financially supporting and enabling fascism.
