And a very hearty good riddance to Giroux.

Prime Minister Carney announces the appointment of Jason Jacques as the interim Parliamentary Budget Officer, effective September 3, 2025, for a six-month term, and thanks the current Parliamentary Budget Officer, Yves Giroux, for his dedication and years of service to Canadians. Mr. Jacques currently serves as the Director General of Economic and Fiscal Analysis at the Parliamentary Budget Office (PBO). Prior to the PBO, he worked at the Privy Council Office, Finance Canada, Treasury Board Secretariat, and Bank of Canada.

Stop calling for citizens assemblies. They are easily manipulated and used to launder the accountability for things governments find politically difficult, by the virtue that they are wholly unaccountable themselves. You want to make change? Organise politically. Do the hard work.

We simply do not hold premiers to account in this country. All attention and blame gets directed to the federal government regardless. A big chunk of this is the media's fault, but opposition parties, federally and provincially, also own a share of this problem because they go along with it.

So, Alberta wants to charge data centres a surtax for connecting to the electricity grid, but will waive it if they partner with a new gas-burning facility? Of all the dumb things that Danielle Smith is doing... thelogic.co/news/alberta...

The levy will only apply to grid-connected facilities. Alberta is encouraging data centre operators to bring their own power, primarily by partnering with electrical utilities to set up new plants that burn natural gas. Sovereign, Crusoe and Gryphon Digital Mining have all announced plans for such facilities. Despite this, most data centres still need grid hookups, either because they’re not located right next to the power plants generating their energy, or as a backup option to ensure the servers never go down, Coleman said.

As artificial intelligence (AI) and new forms of employment reshape workplaces, we’re working with stakeholders, including unions and industry leaders, to ensure that AI adoption leads to job transformation rather than job loss. We are investing in upskilling and reskilling initiatives to help workers transition into new roles created by AI advancements.
