I’m going to call bullshit on this. Starmer isn’t the one whose given Farage endless coverage. Starmer isn’t the one plastering Farages image across its front pages. Starmer isn’t the one sensationalising the protests outside hotels. That was the Guardian. www.theguardian.com/commentisfre...
AndroidMark (@marksheekey.bsky.social) reply parent
It's even worse on Facebook. My local (Labour) MP talks about the new childcare provision and within 5 replies Starmer is anti British. The childcare is being spent on immigrant families because Labour are importing people to vote for them.
AndroidMark (@marksheekey.bsky.social) reply parent
I've lost all respect for journalists over the last couple of years. I doubt I'm the only one. We need a trusted source of news though otherwise democracy can't work properly.
AndroidMark (@marksheekey.bsky.social) reply parent
Look at yourself and media colleagues.
Paul Singh (@paulsingh.bsky.social) reposted
The newspaper that gave Farage endless uncritical coverage and headlines seems to think it’s Starmer’s fault Farage “hijacked the summer headlines” You can’t make this level of hypocrisy up www.theguardian.com/commentisfre...

When some poor asylum seeker is attacked and injured by a knuckledragging "patriot" spurred on by this kind of BS he'll deny any hint of responsibility. What a c word he is.
AndroidMark (@marksheekey.bsky.social) reply parent
From what I've read, the change is that the spouse/partner relationship must have been in place before they left their home country. I guess it's to stop people entering false relationships to just get accepted. No idea if that's a big issue. Seems a hammer to crack a nut.
AndroidMark (@marksheekey.bsky.social) reply parent
This speaks better than a crap speech from Starmer.
AndroidMark (@marksheekey.bsky.social) reply parent
I suspect he's trying to get X banned/restricted in some way to feed the narrative that UK is anti free speech.
AndroidMark (@marksheekey.bsky.social) reply parent
Last year he called the fat right rioters far right rioters - then we had a month of the press/public villifyjng him for being nasty to the common man and they were lionised.. Anything he says will be twisted. Just keep arresting anyone who breaks the law.
AndroidMark (@marksheekey.bsky.social) reply parent
Patriots!
AndroidMark (@marksheekey.bsky.social) reply parent
Again, what action do you want? Where people are breaking the law, they are being arrested. Do you just want a nice speech?
AndroidMark (@marksheekey.bsky.social) reply parent
What action do you want? Bearing in mind any speech/statement will be both have no effect and be twisted in two ways by both the far right and far left. IMO better to leave the words to everyone else.
AndroidMark (@marksheekey.bsky.social) reply parent
I wonder if this smuggler actually exists?
AndroidMark (@marksheekey.bsky.social) reply parent
I miss it so much.

If you are still around there, go to Laguardia
AndroidMark (@marksheekey.bsky.social) reply parent
Where are you?
AndroidMark (@marksheekey.bsky.social) reply parent
I guess it's because, weirdly, they don't visit each other's houses, instead just meet up outside or in a bar.
AndroidMark (@marksheekey.bsky.social) reply parent
The flag on the left looks a bit swasstikery
AndroidMark (@marksheekey.bsky.social) reply parent
Sadly, you are probably right.
AndroidMark (@marksheekey.bsky.social) reply parent
The Rylan thing should be an opportunity. Get him into an asylum hotel, get their stories, see how they live.
AndroidMark (@marksheekey.bsky.social) reply parent
Just get Campbell back.
AndroidMark (@marksheekey.bsky.social) reply parent
Fair points.
AndroidMark (@marksheekey.bsky.social) reply parent
Perhaps setting up was the wrong phrase. But certainly using that demographic for the extra publicity. Certainly wouldnt have been as effective if it had been mainly scruffy young people. (ie the stereotype activist)
AndroidMark (@marksheekey.bsky.social) reply parent
Just like PA then? Setting up a load of pensioners to be arrested.
AndroidMark (@marksheekey.bsky.social) reply parent
The Facebook mob seem convinced that all the judges were appointed by Starmer and are Labour party activists. Country gone mad.
AndroidMark (@marksheekey.bsky.social) reply parent
Unfortunately the usual suspects will be trying to provoke something outside the hotel.
AndroidMark (@marksheekey.bsky.social) reply parent
This is funny. Before election Starmer said he admired the way Thatcher got things done. Zack said this showed Starmer is a Thatcherite. His logic says Zack must be a Faragist. Btw I don't think so, but it shows Zack up as the hypocritical hypnotist he is.
Tracey (@2300.bsky.social) reposted reply parent
The current racist furore is apparently all down to the govt not commenting strongly enough on Farage's racist rhetoric. If it's not that it's because the govt is either acting too much like Reform, or not doing enough to deport people! How is this govt supposed to do its job with all this nonsense!
AndroidMark (@marksheekey.bsky.social) reply parent
I live near the North Yorkshire fires. You get people demanding Starmer say something then the same person says Actions speak louder than words. You point out the actions taken then they say it's not good enough without saying what's lacking, then demand again he says something.
AndroidMark (@marksheekey.bsky.social) reply parent
What a shock!
AndroidMark (@marksheekey.bsky.social) reply parent
Do the govt really need to respond to every comment by every no-mark? There's plenty of response from journalists, individual MPs and others.
AndroidMark (@marksheekey.bsky.social) reply parent
I think I'm reading "like" as in a fan of. Which I wouldnt understand. Anyway, I've gone about it too much. The Rylan conversation is one I've had a lot with the OH. We can't fathom why he's always on telly.
AndroidMark (@marksheekey.bsky.social) reply parent
Oh, I don't think I've said anything odd or controversial. Oh well. Maybe it is just me.
AndroidMark (@marksheekey.bsky.social) reply parent
Yes, I like my girlfriend but she's not on telly. Generally people are on telly because of some talent they have, but I don't see why he is. (Not just him btw - I haven't been especially anti-Rylan, like others he is always on telly for no discernible reason).
AndroidMark (@marksheekey.bsky.social) reply parent
Out of interest why? He doesn't sing, dance, tell jokes. What "talent" does he have?

It's the lazy "Hasnt ruled out..." Gotcha. Eg Starmer hasn't ruled out sending all people called Brian to a prison camp in Bolivia.

Britain's media leads us up the garden path to purgatory because [checks notes] Gov. spokesman is 'too dry' and policy isn't 'sexy' enough? Fast forward to a Reform government & same media asking 'how did this happen'. Because Nick Thomas-Symonds didn't pull out his old chap & slap it on the podium?

This thread illustrates what they are up against. Try a strong attack, the media lose interest and belittle it. bsky.app/profile/stur...
AndroidMark (@marksheekey.bsky.social) reply parent
I broadly agree. I think the fear comes from when he rightly called far-right protesters "far right" there was wide (confected) outrage over labelling "ordinary" people as right wing.

IMO Today has been neither genius or a fuck up. A Minimum reaction to Farage but others want more or different and there's been a bit of misrepresentation and exaggeration in the reporting.
AndroidMark (@marksheekey.bsky.social) reply parent
She said, not prepared to criticise Farage for anything. There was dismissive criticism and defending of ECHR. Fair opinion to say not strong enough. But the headline post is just misleading.
AndroidMark (@marksheekey.bsky.social) reply parent
Elgot said no criticism. Multiple other organisations reported criticism (Tory and non Tory).

AndroidMark (@marksheekey.bsky.social) reply parent
He said himself that he got the Island of Strangers speech wrong. Even then, when you read the full thing you can see he meant pretty much the opposite of how it was interpreted. You can either believe it was a mistake or not. My belief is he's awful at speeches and STFU at times.
AndroidMark (@marksheekey.bsky.social) reply parent
Dont you think the "strength of feeling" quote is taken out of context. It was referring to the taxes people paying to maintain the current system, rather than feelings against the migrants themselves.
AndroidMark (@marksheekey.bsky.social) reply parent
Jessica Elgot seems to have missed most of what was said.
AndroidMark (@marksheekey.bsky.social) reply parent

AndroidMark (@marksheekey.bsky.social) reply parent
No idea, but I think it's good that they recognised it wasnt good and are trying again. We'll have to see. It does look like it's with Nandy and I agree she's been useless so far.

We have Ofgem - which are supposed to be neutral, quite rightly. But, I think Johnson put a load of Tories there. (Like the BBC). Nandy (who has been useless) needs to do something so we have a neutral body with teeth.

At a guess, the Afghan refugees stuck in hotels waiting to have their acts of bravery for British soldiers honoured will have done immeasurably more for this country than the shits spray painting roundabouts with a can of wrong colour paint they probably stole from Halfords.

AndroidMark (@marksheekey.bsky.social) reply parent
I, like many others, followed him at first. He was the leader, certainly the opposite of a Tory. Then it was a drip, drip, drip of disappointments, face palm moments and inevitable defeat that turned us against him. Actually, against him is too strong Just want to move on, wish he would too.

I'm not really sure what you want? The likes of Tice are careful to keep themselves on the right side of the law. There does need to be action against GBNEWS/Talk TV but Ofgem are useless - Nandy needs to get her finger out. Fortunately the likes of Tommy Robinson will end up in prison.
