It sounds like the real issue is not that there were "rules" that "changed", but that there weren't any rules, just a lot of different opinions all based on limited information, and the amount of information available changed.
NonViolet (@not-a-violet.bsky.social) reply parent
That's pretty clear... A lot of doctors supported the protests and the cause, and urged people to use a number of safety measures, because they recognized and acknowledged there was a high risk of the protests spreading covid.

I was a temp during the summers after high school... Made like $6–$8/hr doing data entry or filing or whatever. That was 35 (! 👀) years ago. I wonder if those kinds of jobs pay more than that now...

Wow! You'd think the wildfire officials wouldn't be trying to sabotage their own efforts. Because it's not like this could possibly make it any *easier* to fight fires, but it very well could make it harder. Unless they're Trump guys who *want* to burn down all the forests, out of spite.

I suspect that anything Secretary Pestilence might do to "improve diet and lifestyle" would actually be draconian and harmful. Maybe everyone who is overweight will lose their insurance. Maybe public schools will be forced to hand out unregulated dietary supplements instead of free lunches.

That's so sad! I worried just like that during the 80s and 90s, and it really helped to stop watching the news at all. But that was just regular reporting... Fox is scaring people intentionally and deceptively, and it's just evil.

Did health officials really say the protests were fine and safe? Because as I remember it, they were very worried it would cause a huge covid spike. They didn't have any power over what people did anyway. Everyone talked about "lockdown" but there wasn't any lockdown. It was just advice.

Not sure how much of the anti-education, anti-intellectual tendencies of fascists and Christian nationalists are the fault of the universities themselves. Though, the quantity of right-wing-pandering judicial extremists that've come out of Harvard Law hasn't helped my impression of that school.

Reading Wyoming newspapers from the 1890s, I'm constantly amazed how much people traveled from Wyoming to Chicago or Minneapolis, or out to California. The trips were probably not quite as pleasant as the papers make it sound, but it sure seems like people were very mobile and connected.
