I was once in a group (at the CDC) 15+ yrs ago to learn how to plan for this very event including pre-determination of the "who gets the limited ventilators?" question. It's an impossible task and so easy to judge on the outside.
It wasn't badly "handled" all over the 🌍. There was no defenses against the virus. People could have been better prepared for secondary supports, everything can always be improved upon. Trump had dismantled the US pandemic emergency preparedness program put in place by Obama.

Trump got Covid infection early in pandemic before vaccines & perhaps would have died but he got experimental drug cocktail of monoclonal antibodies-not available to others. This was when temporary morgues were being used in some cities because mortality was so high. Healthcare workers were dying.
Trying to imagine the implications of Trump then becoming so legally invulnerable (& everyone else agreeing that to be the case) in his 1st term, might not have been a Biden administration to help us survive pandemic and fix economy.
