Even my cheapo induction cooktop has features no gas or electric stove I know does: a timer—I can put on a pot of rice or beans, set the timer, and walk away. AND maintenance of a set temperature: an absolute boon for deep frying. No constant tinkering with the controls to maintain the proper temp.

Well, there is *some* case for it. If naive buyers load untested crap on their phones that degrades performance—or worse—it reflects badly on your hardware. And "at your own risk" disclaimers won't neutralize this. Not saying this fully justifies Apple's policies, but it is an arguable point.
