Even my cheapo induction cooktop has features no gas or electric stove I know does: a timer—I can put on a pot of rice or beans, set the timer, and walk away. AND maintenance of a set temperature: an absolute boon for deep frying. No constant tinkering with the controls to maintain the proper temp.
I bought the cheapest induction cooktop I could find, just to check them out: $35 on a closeout. It's now 5 years old and still runs rings around any gas or electric stove I've ever owned.
