Trump pulled a lot of funding for programs like COPS that put more officers to work and reduce violent crime by engaging with at risk people. But cities like Baltimore and Chicago are getting their violent crime rates down in spite of Trump turning his back on them.

And she so readily accepts that National Guard troops are affecting the rate of carjackings in ways other than there are less people are going out because the federal takeover makes them feel unsafe.

DOTs love to point out that if people have to slow down to make a turn, it could cause a rear end collision, which of course is far worse than a collision between a car and a person.

Many in the 55% only "somewhat" support the Guard "assisting" police. No definition of "assisting," and it does not include assistng ICE or fed agents. Not much to go on. Also, pretending that Trump is doing this to combat crime is unethical.
Tsod (@tsod.bsky.social) reply parent
Looking at the poll, the largest group of respondents are: High school grads (no college), over 60, Republicans, in the south, in suburbs, white, Protestant. Crime being a strength for Trump is a fabrication of the headline writers. Not from the poll.
Tsod (@tsod.bsky.social) reply parent
People are so stupid they think this about crime?
Tsod (@tsod.bsky.social) reply parent
Chicago successfully got its murder rate down to a level not seen since the 1960s. Baltimore is also having great success using federal programs that Trump ended funding for. You're absolutely right. If Republicans will lie so brazenly about this, what comes next? This could not be more Orwellian.
Tsod (@tsod.bsky.social) reply parent
Illinois is winning. Democratic run states will help defeat fascism if enough other people do their part.
Tsod (@tsod.bsky.social) reply parent
That is a good reminder that cities are overwhelmingly Democratic in all states. Cities in Republican states suffer from more and more meddling by state governments, and tend to have worse social programs which is not good for crime.
Tsod (@tsod.bsky.social) reply parent
She asks the question as if the current deployment of Guard troops to cities might be for legitimate reasons. Yes, it gave Moore an opportunity to explain how horrible it is, but the media need to do a much better job of framing these issues.

When my fifth grade son had a field trip to DC they stopped at Union Station for lunch, and the kids went off to wherever they wanted to get food. I thought it was a great place to build independence by getting lunch on your own. It was the highlight of the trip for him. More than the museum.
