Like I said, we vote every time. But when my neighborhood in urban Austin is in a district with rural ranchers 400 miles away, as you might imagine, our needs are ignored. When I lived in DE and we had one rep for the whole state (who happened to be an R), I had better representation.

It does work to repress votes. I voted in Austin for 20 years before I had a D in the federal and state house (soon to disappear into the ether). In a county that voted 70% for Harris, that’s gerrymandering. But a lot of people get tired of not having their vote count and just stop voting.

As a Texan, I’m used to this bullshit. For the last 2 years, I’ve had a rep who supports my best interests. I’ve lived in Texas for 43 years. For the most recent 30 of those, the GOP has controlled the entire state. But it’s still not enough. That area of Austin is majority Black and Latinx.
