As someone who grew up in 1980s I can’t stress enough how “small” life *felt*. This isn’t a bad thing it had lots of good things but a world with 4 TV channels, no cheap flights, internet/smart phones in a small town everyone who didn’t go to uni simply had kids by their late teens/early 20s.

Phil - podcasts for clubs offer focussed analysis by people who often specialise in only 1 or 2 teams - newspaper articles are done hurriedly by journalists who need click traffic to keep jobs. You should know this! Football is same as politics. People buy newspapers for opinion bait - not news.

Not so much racist as kind of stupid. If you have enough money, qualifications & motivation as a foreigner to graduate from a UK university you’re likely to be a big plus for the UK - a country where the state cost of educating a child to 18 is £100k & birth rate is hurtling towards 1 per family.

Guehi made it quite clear months ago he was happy to see out his contract. I’m not even a Palace fan but he strikes me as a top lad. If Liverpool really wanted Guehi they could have negotiated properly & early and not waited to the last minute to squeeze extra cash from an already good deal.
Nick Craw🇪🇺🇨🇦🇬🇱🇹🇭 (@nickcraw.bsky.social)
There’s 2 ages where we cost a country money 1. The 1st 18 years (post)natal/education costs 2. Last 10 years care costs Between these 2 ages we are nearly all pretty profitable for a country. Literally anyone from anywhere with a degree is a catch for the UK. Madness.
Nick Craw🇪🇺🇨🇦🇬🇱🇹🇭 (@nickcraw.bsky.social)
I really can’t take this concern over falling birth rates seriously while the price of the 3 bed semi detached council house my unskilled park attendant grandad paid the equivalent of £35 a week for 40 years… …now costs £400k. & my (working) nephew + girlfriend & child lives with mother in law.

Indeed. Im also old enough to remember when the idea of Brexit - or Brixit as it was then called - was considered so mad that Conservative Party & much of the media treated it as a sign of madness. Many conservatives simply contented themselves with arguing for an opt out of the euro system.

Oh and btw was it insane for Liverpool to get £ 7 million for letting TAA go to Real Madrid a few weeks early? Palace don’t exist to serve Liverpool’s transfer schedule. If 50 million is what palace quoted then that was the price.
Nick Craw🇪🇺🇨🇦🇬🇱🇹🇭 (@nickcraw.bsky.social)
For all us nice liberal middle class people while we are ridiculing the flag nonsense. Sure we are on the right side. But also if societies are drained of meaning, moral purpose a common understanding of where we’re going… ..then people will search for it in other, oft extremely unhelpful ways.
Nick Craw🇪🇺🇨🇦🇬🇱🇹🇭 (@nickcraw.bsky.social) reply parent
Nope. Literally every Palace fan knows there were talks months ago - exactly as with Newcastle. With Newcastle they bunged on an extra 20million just in time. With Guehi they didn’t. In any case if CP are top 10 & still in conf league come January it’ll probably have been worth holding Guehi.
Nick Craw🇪🇺🇨🇦🇬🇱🇹🇭 (@nickcraw.bsky.social) reply parent
As I said before Liverpool low balled offer so badly that if Palace have a really good year with Guehi in PL & conf-leave it might actually not be such a bad move simply to hold on to Guehi for year or till mid Jan. I mean they might even be able to sell him to Madrid come January.
Nick Craw🇪🇺🇨🇦🇬🇱🇹🇭 (@nickcraw.bsky.social) reply parent
It’s up to palace to do what they want to do. Guehi been 100% clear: he won’t go on strike & more than happy to see out contract. If Liverpool can’t get deal done that’s fine. Maybe they’ll get him for free or cheap in January. Price offered by Pool means it might make sense to hold Guehi for year.
Nick Craw🇪🇺🇨🇦🇬🇱🇹🇭 (@nickcraw.bsky.social) reply parent
Literally no one is saying this. Palace & Liverpool had early talks months ago. Exactly as with their Isak dealings Liverpool made a low bid then wanted Guehi to create a stink to get move. Guehi didn’t. Liverpool then waited late to try & force Palace’s hand. It all came in late - too late.

Palace are running a healthy profit on transfers - one of very few PL clubs that are. Obviously if Guehi goes on a free/reduced fee in 2026 this will be income forgone BUT if Palace are in mid table safety & doing well in conf-league by January this might not look like such a bad deal…

Nope. Guehi has expressed several times that he’d be happy to see out his contract. It was up to Liverpool to get the deal done and not try and wait to last minute to squeeze out a lower fee just because he had one year left.

Liverpool had the whole summer to get deal done but Guehi with less than a year to go on contract Liverpool pushed it too far to squeeze fee lower. If Liverpool win the league & get him on a free in June they’ll be happy. If not they’ll have screwed up.
Nick Craw🇪🇺🇨🇦🇬🇱🇹🇭 (@nickcraw.bsky.social)
Reaction to Liverpool Game is so weird. Arsenal received alot of criticism for “cautious play, set piece reliance & few chances” but both teams were cautious & created similar chances. Liverpool won on set piece. ®ardless who’s playing - home teams tend to attack more. Liverpool were at home.
Nick Craw🇪🇺🇨🇦🇬🇱🇹🇭 (@nickcraw.bsky.social) reply parent
Simple explanation for this. Guehi less than a year on contract & wanted Liverpool move. Liverpool wouldn’t be the first club to try to force a selling club to lower fee due to this. The mistake they made was pushing it so hard so late to enable palace to concede gracefully & get replacement.
Nick Craw🇪🇺🇨🇦🇬🇱🇹🇭 (@nickcraw.bsky.social) reply parent
There’s actually a smart, dare I say it English, way to do this where Starmer talks jokingly about getting out the england flag out for the recent wonens football championship. But this isn’t it. He sounds like an uncle talking about liking “black hiphop” in front of the kids.
