The army keeps buzzing my house in their Apache Attack Helicopter. I'd thell them to go do one, but they're armed with a 30mm chaingun, AGM-114 Hellfire Missles, and Hydra 70 rocket pods. With its redundant systems, even if I was able to hurt its feelings, it'd likely be able to continue annoying me

I felt the piece is more an attempt that is there to say, 'oh, that wasn't us'. So that they can support extremists while being seen to actually be doing so. It also branded the Free Palestine as a hate movement as way of saying "Look, you do it too!"
Paul Pearson (@raccacooie.bsky.social) reply parent
What an awful article, it claims The National are a far right publication and that Free Palestine is a hate movement. I felt like the article was also trying to imply that Reform aren't a racist, far right party but one that was in the wrong place at the wrong time due to inexperience.

You're right, Palestinians aren't getting in the way, they're being deliberately targeted. Is the IDF falling into Hamas's trap when it rounds up women and children, puts them against a wall and shoots them en masse?
Paul Pearson (@raccacooie.bsky.social) reply parent
By your logic, Israel should have just saved some time and dropped a nuke onto Gaza
Paul Pearson (@raccacooie.bsky.social) reply parent
So your logic is that it's better 100 innocents die, rather than risk one one of the guilty get away? No matter how you frame it, it's Israel that's pulling the trigger here.
Paul Pearson (@raccacooie.bsky.social) reply parent
So Israel will genocide Palestinians because "Oops, they got in the way"? That was a mistake, but we can forgive them for that. Is that the justification for the killing of UN, Red Cross, other aid personel and journalists? Is that forgivable? Is killing only unacceptable when the victim is a Jew?
Paul Pearson (@raccacooie.bsky.social) reply parent
It's astonishing how much the anti-palestine movement ignores how Israel played a key role in making Hamas the governing party in Gaza. Why? Because Israeli hypocrisy is a massive embarrassment to a movement that likes to pretend that Palestine is the sole aggressor. They don't like self reflection
Paul Pearson (@raccacooie.bsky.social) reply parent
So you think the indiscriminate carpet bombing of civilians, the attacks on the UN and Red Cross and other aid personel, and the policy of killing journalists - all of which is being enacted by the IDF - are Hamas's fault for not surrendering sooner?
Paul Pearson (@raccacooie.bsky.social) reply parent
I agree but you're preaching to the choir. How do you engage the disenfranchised and communicate with the politically illiterate? The Dems have to meet these people half way and actually field candidates that engage with people outside of their bubble and aren't just in it for a paycheck

Some of this we can fight as individuals, such as toxic masculinity and by creating safe spaces for people to talk about their issues, but other things such as improving mental health provision, welfare and better schools will have to come from the government.
Paul Pearson (@raccacooie.bsky.social) reply parent
I believe intolerance for extreme ideologies just drives them underground, and while this may make them less accessable to some people, it doesn't stamp them out. Fascism feeds especially on disenfranchised and vulnerable young men, often by giving them an easy answer and something to blame.
Paul Pearson (@raccacooie.bsky.social) reply parent
I can hate a flame and pour water on it, but if I don't also remove it's fuel source then I can never truly extinguish it.
Paul Pearson (@raccacooie.bsky.social) reply parent
No,. Fascism is often symptomatic of other issues in society, and exploited by bigots and racists. By refusing to see the person, you are willfully ignoring the issues that led them down the path. It's important to reach people before they're radicalised or else the problem continues.
Paul Pearson (@raccacooie.bsky.social) reply parent
You seem to be projecting a lot onto the people you interact with here. I don't think anyone can have a reasoned discussion with you without either having to agree with you without thinking or being accused of being a fascist or nazi sympathiser. For that reason I'm going to end this here.
Paul Pearson (@raccacooie.bsky.social) reply parent
If you pretend they aren't human you're absolving society for creating the environment that drove those people to such an ideology. It makes you as much of the problem as they are. You need to drive out fascism and fix the problems that created it in the first place.
Paul Pearson (@raccacooie.bsky.social) reply parent
You know you can shoot a nazi without denying them their humanity?
Paul Pearson (@raccacooie.bsky.social) reply parent
Do you know who else would demonise the out group as non-humans? Nazis. In fact they practically invented it. Its true you can't fight Nazism with good intentions, but neither should you be adopting aspects of nazi ideology to fight back.
Paul Pearson (@raccacooie.bsky.social) reply parent
This reads like either you are a nazi, trying to demonise everyone else for hating them, or you're a psychopath looking for an excuse to torture people. I don't know which is worse

Paul Pearson (@raccacooie.bsky.social) reply parent

Just tighten the noose round non-doms. They want to live here without contributing? Fuck 'em
Paul Pearson (@raccacooie.bsky.social) reply parent
Why are they driving down this route? The Lib Dems collapsed when they betrayed their base and aligned with the Tories just to get a sliver of power. It took them 15 years for them to regain any material relevence in the political scene.
Paul Pearson (@raccacooie.bsky.social) reply parent
In the UK anyway, I feel many of these problems stem from the money going into the system and from our leaders entering politics as a career. Starmer for example doesn't appear to have any principles or values. He appears more concerned with winning the next election than he does doing anything else

I can't argue with that. Dems are probably comparable with the Conservatives here (UK) just slightly more socially liberal. My take on Democrats is that they want to be in charge for the sake of it, not because they have any particular values or beliefs. Much like our current PM
