You're misinterpreting my stance, and in so doing you are quite literally ignoring what I say to turn me into a straw man. I've not given any indication I value Israeli lives more than Palestinian lives. I think any and all civilians deserve a respectable life, a decent life, just a LIFE.
Yumeijin (@yumeijin.bsky.social) reply parent
As you say, this didn't start with September, so the decision has not always been "genocide or jail" Furthermore, there's a narrative that people like you play into; a narrative that each of them is under threat which means they need to neutralize it That's ignoring the social conditioning aspect
Yumeijin (@yumeijin.bsky.social) reply parent
They're not asking you to change what you think or feel, just your actions. Because the thing they don't appreciate is a foundational element of sharing anything with people, including a platform designed for sharing things. It's not really reasonable to this reaction and expectation

The take it up with the party that felt it was more important to tacitly support a genocide than fight fascism with a decent candidate. Seriously, the onus of appealing to voters is on them.
Yumeijin (@yumeijin.bsky.social) reply parent
I think any amount of prison is going to be incredibly disruptive, so it's not as though there's no pressure to acquiesce You're putting words in my mouth here, I'm not saying anything about one Israeli death compared to Palestinian deaths. A life is a life; death is death and it's tragic.
Yumeijin (@yumeijin.bsky.social) reply parent
I'm all for respecting boundaries, but those boundaries need to be respectful of others. Il this feels excessive, like putting the responsibility of emotional regulation on everyone else. Comparisons are a part of life and if we don't want people to engage in them we can choose not to engage
Yumeijin (@yumeijin.bsky.social) reply parent
And that forced servitude serves to indoctrinate the Israeli citizens, sure. I didn't know that I would say with any certainly those thrown in the IDF haven't ALSO lost family or friends to violence, which is why it's a circle of violence Regardless, neither side should be hitting civilians
Yumeijin (@yumeijin.bsky.social) reply parent
So get mad at the party putting forth a lesser evil instead of choosing a better candidate my guy. No one is owed a vote, and expecting people to give one because it's pragmatic is why nothing fucking changes The Dems only "respect' democracy here btw, not in Gaza

I haven't focused on Oct 7 at all honestly. You're right; this is an issue that goes well beyond that. I also don't say that "some Palestinians deserve genocide." I simply say no militaristic group should be targeting civilians, and those that do should be treated with disdain.
Yumeijin (@yumeijin.bsky.social) reply parent
I didn't say murder was alright, just that your position is binary and it leads to a myopic take. You're obviously good enough to have disdain for genocide, so I figured you wouldn't want to inadvertently support the murder of innocents As to the second question, your first and second posts
Yumeijin (@yumeijin.bsky.social) reply parent
I mean, we've been shooting ourselves in the foot by consolidating the power in two parties as the inevitable result of clinging to a fptp voting system, resulting in a voting schema that demands pragmatism and labels anything less as virtue signaling. Be angry at the people giving shit choices

It's not cover for genocide, I literally just said on the post you're responding to that it's abhorrent. I also called out the IDF for their part in creating the violence they claim as justification for their atrocities. The violence is disproportionate, true, but attacking civilians is still bad.
Yumeijin (@yumeijin.bsky.social) reply parent
I absolutely accept Palestinians are oppressed, I never said otherwise. And they have every right to rise up against their oppressors; but they should only leverage armed resistance against armed oppression. Compulsory soldiers are fair game while they're soldiers. We do not justify civilian deaths
Yumeijin (@yumeijin.bsky.social) reply parent
I'm saying that people have done it through history, so if your stance is that people who steal land and are raised on that stolen land deserve to die, that's a lot of people. You also have to determine who the land was stolen from originally, which is quite the feat. Have you considered this?

I think think the genocide Israel is enacting right now is abhorrent, particularly from a people that suffered much the same less than a century ago But I also don't think that any of the IDF's actions--which do lead to people joining Hamas to fight back--justifies killing noncombatants
Yumeijin (@yumeijin.bsky.social) reply parent
I didn't rush to defend any ethnic cleansing, you're putting a lot of words in my mouth and not listening to the ones I'm writing. I don't demand sympathy for the Israeli combatants or Hamas. They're both leveraging deaths of innocents to attempt genocide, but only Israel has the means to try it
Yumeijin (@yumeijin.bsky.social) reply parent
Just like the view that Palestinians are deserving of this genocide is not a view held by all Israelis, let alone all Jews. You're looking at things through an extremely reductive lens that paints all people as either villains or innocents. That's not how the world works.
Yumeijin (@yumeijin.bsky.social) reply parent
I really don't, and you're projecting that viewpoint on me to cover for the fact that you are defending the murder of noncombatants. There are multiple remarks from members of Hamas (and other similar groups) that call for the extermination of Jews wholesale. That's not a view all Palestinians hold
Yumeijin (@yumeijin.bsky.social) reply parent
See, the problem here is you're looking at this through a myopic lens. Yes, throughout human history, which that region includes, people have been taking land from each other by force. So sits every person in a land that isn't theirs deserve death? How far back do you go to determine that?

Is it a basic fact? Or are you being extremely reductionist about a process that's spanned the entirety of human history? How quickly you decide to label me as a Zionist (or even assume it would make the argument any less valid if true). I also note you didn't answer the question.

Because the situation isn't a good analogy, and to apply this idea with any consistency you'd have to be arguing that a goodly portion of the world deserves to be killed.

There are two armed groups using the deaths of their people as justification to murder unarmed people on the other side. Fuck the both of them; Israel needs to be stopped and condemned, but that doesn't mean you need to justify aggression against civilians.
Yumeijin (@yumeijin.bsky.social) reply parent
You cannot take the position that Palestinians are justified in striking down innocents under the guise of "fighting an oppressor" any more than you can take the position that Israelis are justified in striking down innocents because they "support a terrorist regime."
Yumeijin (@yumeijin.bsky.social) reply parent
It's really telling that I say something that bids you question whether the violence is worth defending wholesale or whether some of it can and should be condemned, and your assumption is I don't care that Palestinians are dying. I ask the question because you're using the same logic Israel is.
Yumeijin (@yumeijin.bsky.social) reply parent
So if someone settles land that isn't theirs (how do you define theirs exactly) it's totally permissable to kill every last one of them, with no regard for whether they personally settled the land or were born there, is that what I'm to derive from this?

Technology doesn't. If you're willing to suspend disbelief for magic oil that lets people zip zap from one place to another and power computers, but some rocks that use lightning to zip zap from one place to another and power computers then your problem isn't with the technology, but the aesthetic

Okay at we agree on the bottom that the Internet separates people into groups and that the algorithm exacerbates that. When I say people are being more overtly racist, I'm not taking about seeing people online voice racism, I'm talking about people saying the quiet part of loud in the real world
Yumeijin (@yumeijin.bsky.social) reply parent

Honestly, if you like the game half as much as you purport you should be advocating for its success; for it to be competitive so it retains customers. Defending the game because you like it and telling customers to go elsewhere if they have complaints undermines your own means of entertainment.
