I'm guessing when your uncle signed up he knew he'd be a Nazi soldier whereas when most of these folks signed up they had no idea they'd be used the way they are right now. A few may be into it but I suspect most just want it over ASAP and returned to base. Would like to see some reporting on that.
And it's quite likely that most who used the phrase are getting increasingly annoyed about being labeled "Democrats".

Or possibly the party has inched so far rightward over the years too many potential voters no longer see it as offering a real alternative and have simply dropped out? Perhaps the party is focused so much on gaining independents it's ignoring the real opportunity, regaining it's original base?
They will when hot button local issue is planted to pull them in with, something which has been part of the GOP toolkit for quite a while.

Maybe ask the folks who aren't voting any more. I suspect a good chunk see the Democratic party as no longer effectively representing their interests. Maybe the party should allow its progressive young leaders to turn it around and lead it back to where it started from.

A reserve military force under joint control of both state and federal government to be called up when needed, not as a primary offensive force, and definitely not as a civil police force when no actual disorder exists, in violation of the Posse Comitatus Act.
But it's also really not great that since 9/11 the Guard is now being regularly used for combat duty in our unconstitutional undeclared wars. That's not what the Guard was intended for and is disrespectful to the citizenry.
