No one wants to open their eyes about this issue. Which neighborhoods have metal bars over their doors and windows? Urban, high crime neighborhoods. Rite Aid in Tacoma's "Hilltop" closed a newly built location because it was cheaper than staying open due to the huge amount of shoplifting.

Food Deserts are also caused by overwhelming shoplifting. Research the Rite Aid built in Tacoma's "Hilltop" years ago. Shoplifting was so bad, the company walked away from the land, newly built store and lost less money than they would have lost if they'd stayed open.
paulineward.bsky.social (@paulineward.bsky.social) reply parent
Years ago, Rite Aid invested in Tacoma's "Hilltop" neighborhood. Land was purchased, a store was built & opened. There was a refrigerated section with milk, eggs, butter, cheese & meat. A small produce section offered fresh fruit & vegetables. Overwhelming shoplifting & the location was closed.
paulineward.bsky.social (@paulineward.bsky.social) reply parent
I see your photo shows a fabulous fresh produce section. Walmart has a fabulous fresh produce section, too. But people still *choose* to buy Cheetos, Doritos and Fritos. Instead of spending millions on a grocery store which duplicates every other grocery store; why not just expand bus service?

I've spent years in Social Services. Sure, expanding mental health services sounds great, but how do you get crazy people to participate? You think gun nuts acknowledge that they are nuts? You could co-locate free mental health services in every Starbucks, but mentally ill people would not go in.
