I also made some other gem variants for them, and a bonus void elf recolor for fun. I feel like out of any sets in the game, Blizzard really should just go wild on a crazy number of recolors for Heritage sets.
Portergauge (@portergauge.bsky.social)
Some old recolor edits I made of the Blood Elf heritage set back during BfA, after seeing the variants that humans and orcs got. I do hope they go back and add some new color variants to the older heritage sets some day, especially now that we're finally getting the Nightborne/Lightforged variants.

Thrall's seems to be a regular shop skin at least, and using his proper black-toned Doomplate lol Calling him the World Shaman again while he's in this outfit is interesting, though.

(the dichotomy between how Belfs and their pursuit of power was written even in MoP compared to now is really drastic lol)
Portergauge (@portergauge.bsky.social)
This has always been one of my favorite quests in MoP, little touches like these to acknowledge player race options are always so fun.
Portergauge (@portergauge.bsky.social) reply parent
None as far as I'm aware, sadly.

Crazy how I can feel nostalgic for an expansion that's only barely a year in the past.

Catching up on all the Ecological Succession story I never tested on the PTR, and I love that Ve'nari is a secret fangirl for Hemet Nesingwary lol

And hey, who knows what it'll mean as we head into the *Midnight* expansion, with all of Dimensius' power now in the hands of Xal'atath. The cinematic opens with the setting sun, and she's had those eclipse eyes this whole time, after all.
Portergauge (@portergauge.bsky.social) reply parent
An'she is the sun *god* of the tauren, their source of magical Light as much as literal, and the names are just a *bit* similar enough to naaru to imply a Light connection. In short: I think Dimensius consumed a bunch of solar Light deities in the past, and that's super cool.
Portergauge (@portergauge.bsky.social) reply parent
With An'shuul from Dragonflight, it's specified that it is *in* the Void, and now this new trinket from Dimensius has something similar, all with the same naming convention as An'she. Those are obviously very different names from K'aresh's though: and An'she isn't *just* a sun.
Portergauge (@portergauge.bsky.social) reply parent
Something that's noted very specifically in The Doom of K'aresh is that before he got to the planet itself, Dimensius consumed the twin suns of K'aresh. Which leads to the assumption that Dimensius has consumed other suns in the past aplenty as he devours planets.
Portergauge (@portergauge.bsky.social)
I got a neat trinket from Dimensius that summons void meteors, but the thing that I noticed while testing its damage is that the meteors actually have a name: An'xoth. My first thought went to An'she, then to An'shuul from DF, which makes me think there's a connection.
Portergauge (@portergauge.bsky.social) reply parent
(Also no, it is not a set that exclusively looks good on elves lol)
Portergauge (@portergauge.bsky.social) reply parent
I don't think those things have anything to do with each other haha, gnome tinkers are a totally different concept to gnome paladins.
Buttart (@buttart.bsky.social) reposted
hey folks, i just donated to this and it's quite urgent-- could any of my followers contribute? share around if you're able!
Portergauge (@portergauge.bsky.social) reply parent
I still hope at least *some* of Tinker's visuals and story is gnome/goblin based (especially after all of Brann's 11.2 abilities, and their ties to Mimiron). But I'll still be more than content to finally see Tinkers playable in a relevant way through Dagran and the Titanforged.
Portergauge (@portergauge.bsky.social) reply parent
Dagran's still got an ongoing story with both the Earthen and Titan technology, thanks to all of his questlines with Brinthe. And that makes him the perfect 'main character' to market for that kind of Tinker class in TLT, at which point we'll be long overdue for a new one.
Portergauge (@portergauge.bsky.social) reply parent
I've said in the past that, despite my desire for a wholly gnome/goblin centric Tinker, I unfortunately don't think Blizzard would ever see them as marketable. But a 'Titan tech' based Tinker? That not only allows for more racial options, but it fits *perfectly* with TLT.
Portergauge (@portergauge.bsky.social) reply parent
And then, the Overcharged Delves in 11.1.7. That (and the tease for its return in the future) were obviously primarily just gameplay elements with lore flavor, but it's the first time we see Dagran actually *building* things with Titan tech, and having his own plotline.
Portergauge (@portergauge.bsky.social) reply parent
We saw in 11.0 his interest in it throughout the campaign, and his work with Brinthe was the reason we uncovered the truth from Archaedas. Obviously this ties super well into his character and his love of knowledge, but they've put an emphasis on his love for technology on top.
Portergauge (@portergauge.bsky.social)
If I had to place my bets on where Dagran's story is going to go, I honestly do think he's a very long-term set-up for Tinkers... just not the traditional kind. They've put *such* an emphasis on his growing connection to Titan machinery in TWW, it can't be for no reason.
Portergauge (@portergauge.bsky.social) reply parent
Sure is a lot of focus on Tinkers with pylons and gadget creation, though... 👀
Portergauge (@portergauge.bsky.social)
I had no clue they added another gnome-themed delve in 11.2, I love Mr. Fizzlepickle so much
Portergauge (@portergauge.bsky.social) reply parent
The collar is still there! It's just a part of the helm, and they added a variant of the helm with no collar to allow players to avoid that clipping haha
Portergauge (@portergauge.bsky.social)
As an aside: I also really love how the recent Trading/upcoming Post sets added all have matching red/green/blue/purple color palettes, and all of the same vibe. I don't know if they're all made by the same dev or not, but it's so appreciated by transmog enthusiasts.
Portergauge (@portergauge.bsky.social) reply parent
The legplates are so much better than previous 3D assets too, they finally look like protective bits of armor instead of metal chunks slapped to the side of the thigh. WoW armor really has come such a long way in recent years.
Portergauge (@portergauge.bsky.social)
These parts of the upcoming Headless Horsemen set are going to hit like crack to the RP community, they are *so* versatile as class-agnostic armor sets.
Portergauge (@portergauge.bsky.social) reply parent
Honestly, I had a bigger issue with the lead singer than the placement itself. No disrespect to her whatsoever, but it was just *not* her range, and I feel like people would hate the song a bit less if it had a lead singer that matched the choir backing better.
Portergauge (@portergauge.bsky.social)
I remembered the cancelled Wrathion statue, and got sad all over again. We could have had it all...
Portergauge (@portergauge.bsky.social) reply parent
Don't you want to live out your fantasy of having a horse mane, though?
Portergauge (@portergauge.bsky.social) reply parent
I dislike the idea that Tier sets have to be ridiculously flashy and full of huge chunks of metal to be "worthy" of coming from high end content. Leveling gear... looks really good! I'd love to get more of that simple, practical vibe, but with class-specific aesthetics.
Portergauge (@portergauge.bsky.social)
I'm honestly shocked that so many people seem to hate the Hunter tier set from 11.2, it's so good. We've had so many egregiously over-designed sets throughout basically all of WoW, it's nice to get something that's just... a nice normal ranger look, with simple armor and tunics.

I mean, your character is not the canon NPC characters haha, and the game has never blamed the Alliance PC for what happened with the Nightborne. I don't expect they'll be blamed for anything here either.
Portergauge (@portergauge.bsky.social)
I actually *really* like that this is being made explicit. Instead of just being an unexplored lingering tension (ala Horde working with Jaina and Alleria), the fact that the Alliance don't quite belong in Silvermoon will be an actual point of friction to explore in the story.
Portergauge (@portergauge.bsky.social) reply parent
I'm so excited to see where Dagran goes past TWW. He feels very much like the modern equivalent of what Anduin was in Cata, and I can't wait to see what his 'MoP' moment is in the future. The Last Titan seems like the perfect opportunity for him to shine.
Portergauge (@portergauge.bsky.social) reply parent
The spiteful rage she's felt and enacted is informed by the love she has for her people, the desire to be what Magni never wanted her to be. But ultimately, the tragedy is that the time for her to be what Dagran now is has passed: it's his turn now.
Portergauge (@portergauge.bsky.social) reply parent
Moira's always been a bit of a messy character prior to TWW, mainly because the writers didn't quite pin down if they wanted her to be a dwarf antagonist (Cata), *the* dwarf protagonist (MoP), or a supporting character (Legion). I love that this story gives her all three.
Portergauge (@portergauge.bsky.social)
I was rereading The Lilac and the Stone, and after a full year and the majority of TWW's content now out, I think I can safely say that this was my favorite story of the xpac. Moira is just such a phenomenally complex character, and Dagran is starting off on such good footing.

Like his thoughts on blood elf fel use are "Kael'thas was an innocent Kirin Tor advocate until he was guilt-tripped back to Silvermoon by the Magisters, who corrupted him with fel magic for their power schemes" Kil'Jaeden who? Shattered Sun Offensive who? It's so fun.
Portergauge (@portergauge.bsky.social) reply parent
Characters who know history but are also extremely biased are also so fun My mage is incredibly well-studied, but he also despises Silvermoon with a passion so anything that makes them look good he just kind of ignores lol
Portergauge (@portergauge.bsky.social) reply parent
We so far haven't heard anything about Vereesa or Halduron in Midnight, which has me just a *bit* worried lol. I really just hope we get a good old ranger plotline somewhere in Eversong during Midnight.
Portergauge (@portergauge.bsky.social) reply parent
And through having both Thas'dorah and Thori'dal existing as twin extensions of the Sunwell, it can be a representation of high elves and blood elves and their different paths. Not magically uniting as one group post-Midnight, but coming to an understanding of their differences.
Portergauge (@portergauge.bsky.social) reply parent
There's such a good story to tell with Alleria properly giving Thas'dorah to her sister, relinquishing that nostalgic tie to the old Quel'thalas, and embracing what she (and it) is now. And then in turn, Vereesa can fulfill the bow's promise alongside Halduron and their people.
Portergauge (@portergauge.bsky.social) reply parent
Plus, on a 'this would just be cool' level, there are two very Quel'thalas-relevant bows just laying around in the banks of hunter players, ready and waiting to be used in an expansion about defending the Sunwell. And these two are perfect candidates to wield both of them.
Portergauge (@portergauge.bsky.social) reply parent
If Alleria's gonna be the space ranger superhero going out and doing void adventures, I think it only makes sense that Vereesa properly becomes the central figure for the Alliance's Thalassian elves going into Midnight. They're going to need *some* kind of leader for that story.
Portergauge (@portergauge.bsky.social)
As the resident High Elf Enjoyer, I really hope Vereesa and Halduron interact when we inevitably deal with the high elf/blood elf divide in Midnight. They're such easy targets to bridge that divide given their pasts, and it gives Halduron a role that isn't just 'not Lor'themar'.

I really wish we had the footage from all the Youtube Shorts as full clips, because god do the dungeons in Midnight look absolutely gorgeous, I cannot wait to explore them.

(Here's hoping they also consider doing Nightborne druids along with it, because it's literally just already canon lol)
Portergauge (@portergauge.bsky.social)
Friend pointed out that during the new player experience slides, a quest log flies by with a bunch of normal TWW/Midnight quests... Except for one quest from the Botanica in TBC involving the only Blood Elf Druid in the game, High Botanist Freywinn.

Funniest part of the site was putting this random lady on the same level as the faction leaders though lmao, made me think she was going to be such a big deal

Love her or hate her, Sylvanas is one of WoW's most popular and iconic characters, only really surpassed by Illidan in the currently alive cast of WoW. It was a matter of when she would return, not if. I'd much rather she return in a story that makes sense, and not just because.
Portergauge (@portergauge.bsky.social)
Look, regardless of peoples' feelings on her... When *else* would Sylvanas return to the story, if not a Quel'thalas expansion dealing with a threat to the Sunwell and the ongoing turmoils of Alleria? It's kind of a no-brainer lol

THE GIRLS!!!
Portergauge (@portergauge.bsky.social) reply parent
I don’t think they’ve shown any specifics, but the new main hub we’ve seen is right smack in the middle of the city where the Dead Scar used to be, so idk if they’ll split it perfectly down the middle
Portergauge (@portergauge.bsky.social)
Maria Hamilton clarified her statements on the faction division in Silvermoon in Midnight, stating that only 1/3rd of the city will be Horde-only, and the other 2/3rds will be available to both factions.
Portergauge (@portergauge.bsky.social)
I have to hope that "wider races" means that at least blood elves will be getting new ones. Their current options are *barren* compared to more modern races or those who got attention in Shadowlands, and feel ill-fitting to populate a modern city with diverse enough NPCs.
Portergauge (@portergauge.bsky.social) reply parent
I hope this continues into patch zones too, not even on a massive scale like Landfall or Isle of Thunder. Tanaan's worked so well to give each faction a little unique hook into the zone, even if they both told identical neutral stories. It's simple, but so effective.
Portergauge (@portergauge.bsky.social) reply parent
I loved the WoD hubs, sorry haha MoP hubs are insanely tiny and utilitarian and their racial ‘representation’ comes down to one or two NPCs so that’s a weird one to posit as better lol
Portergauge (@portergauge.bsky.social) reply parent
Having little faction hubs goes *such* a long way towards making individual races feel like they’re involved in the ongoing story, even if they’re not MSQ-relevant. If you look at an xpac like WoD, only Orcs and Draenei matter, but it still feels like ALL the races are there thanks to these hubs.
Portergauge (@portergauge.bsky.social)
Huge fan of the Voidstorm zone having separate hubs for Horde and Alliance, I know it’s mostly for PvP’s sake here but I really hope they do this in more zones again moving forward.
Portergauge (@portergauge.bsky.social) reply parent
My life for Nightborne Druids, they technically *already* have them since Legion with their botanists and astromancers and it fits their story with thr Arcan’dor perfectly
Portergauge (@portergauge.bsky.social)
Based on what Paul Kubit said at the gameplay panel about Void Elf Demon Hunters, it seems like Horde will be getting a new race/class combo for a *different* class at some point later in Midnight/TLT.
Portergauge (@portergauge.bsky.social) reply parent
Leather wearers only, they're the heroic wrist drop from Dimensius!
Portergauge (@portergauge.bsky.social) reply parent
I think it works just fine! Blizzard just had to make the choice to remove it for one spec, since they (arbitrarily) only allow two specs per Hero Talent tree.
Portergauge (@portergauge.bsky.social)
With those void orbs being so identical to Xal'atath's, how much do you want to be that the Domanaar are the remnants of Xal'atath's species from before she joined the Void?
Portergauge (@portergauge.bsky.social) reply parent
From a half-selfish, half-practical standpoint, I do hope they re-examine the idea that Hero Talents should ONLY be usable to two specs at any given time. Fel-Scarred clearly works for Havoc as-is, and classes like Hunter have Hero Talent trees that could work on any spec.
Portergauge (@portergauge.bsky.social)
Fel-Scarred being entirely removed from Vengeance is very interesting. It makes me wonder if they might be willing to shuffle around Hero Talents that don't quite match up mechanically or thematically on other classes too (looking at you, Rogues)
Portergauge (@portergauge.bsky.social) reply parent
I very much feel the opposite about that haha, I was happy to see Umbric finally getting his own visual identity and beginning to be his own leader, instead of just "the less iconic void elf because we need one with a player model". Now it feels like he's back to playing second fiddle.
Portergauge (@portergauge.bsky.social) reply parent
The actual outfit shapes itself for Umbric are very nice, at least, but I'll miss the purple and gold from their BfA/DF outfits. That felt much more fitting of them being former blood elves and much more striking, and stood in contrast to Alleria's lone wolf, high elven origins.
Portergauge (@portergauge.bsky.social)
On an *entirely* biased level, I'm not the biggest fan of Umbric's outfit changing to match Alleria's color scheme. It's just so weird that they're just using the High Elf color scheme again lol, and unfortunately doesn't give me much hope for Vereesa to play a meaningful role.
