It's easier not to think about it. Thinking about it means having to experience pain through empathy, and having to confront what you're doing and what you've done. That said, a *lot* of vegans were like that at one point. So the question is what caused us to finally stop and think about it?

I did too. Before I became vegetarian I remember someone asking another vegetarian why they didn't eat meat and I said, "Because it's wrong". I knew it, and about 6 months later, I became vegetarian.

I remember reading a philosophical essay in favor of animal exploitation that said it's OK to do what we want with them because they are unable to "say" that they don't want it done to them. I thought, "well, clearly you just don't understand their language...that's *your* failing, not theirs".
