I do not think that the Soviet Union or Mao's China shared their state owned profits as a shareholder units but I am unaware of the way they spend their social capital. Ineffectively, I would imagine. Nonetheless, calling either modern Russia or China "communist" is inaccurate.

You are correct; communist nations don't exist and they never have. It isn't a concept that scales to the size of a nation state. Calling the Soviet Union and China "communist" undersells the history of both those places and perpetrates an undeserved negative meaning for the word.
